This is a poll to see what interest (if any) there is in me releasing a "game launcher" for AmigaOS4, AROS & MorphOS:

The idea is that you add all your games to it, and perhaps tag them according to their type (e.g. WHDLoad) or category (e.g. Racing or Platformer). You can easily filter the list by the game's name or it's tags (e.g. Racing), so that it just lists games with matching names or tags. You can then double-clicking on a game to run it.

The launcher can automatically find all WHDLoad-based games. It can also automatically identify many game type (such as WHDLoad, Classic 68k executable, Floppy image, etc) when they are added, to save you having to tag them.

Given that, please answer the poll on you level of interest

P.S. I should point out that it will only launch games that you can already play on your system. For example, WHDLoad games need RunInUAE to run on AmigaOS4.

@ChrisH

Is it doable to add an option for adding "game-covers/art" ?

Personally I never saw the appeal in these sorts of things and much prefer to use an OSes "native launcher" (ie. Workbench/Wanderer/Whatever), but other (typically computer illiterate) people seem to like them, so I think they definately have a place.

@Metalheart
Where would the game-covers/art come from? Are you expecting the user to manually download a picture for every game?

@ChrisH

I think Metalheart's just looking for the option to add cover art, rather than having it supplied. So if he wants to spend a few evenings scanning his game boxes and attaching them to the entries in the launcher, he can.

Personally I just have a dock for my games, but then again I wouldn't have more than a handful so it's not a big deal to find them. I'm sure there's a place in the world for such a launcher!

Another addition which might be nice would be to integrate the launching of RunInUAE and RunInDOSBox games to the list (in addition to the WHDLoad ones). It's something that was suggested to me as a project but I didn't have the time to take it on myself.

It can already launch RunInUAE (and RunInDOSBox*) games perfectly fine and it will even add "MSDOS" tag to DOS games! (* = I need to get around to releasing that sometime.)

@Metalheart
If you are supplying the picture files, then it might be possible - I'd have to investigate (I'm no MUI expert).

One problem is where the picture would be shown, without wasting tons of space (particularly when no picture was available). I suppose in the worst case it could be shown in a separate window.

@ChrisH

Perhaps small(ish) thumbnails, perhaps scalable. Perhaps only shown when hovering over the game-title ?

Would be nice....

@all
Thanks to those answering the poll. Looks like there is sufficient interest for a release

But first I need to work-around drag'n'drop of files not working with MUI on AROS (at least on ABI v0).

Chris I think it's cool. Quite handy....
But don't call it eGame that name is a ripoff from iGame, try to be original.
