I never got to play 'Z' because the bottom fell out of the Amiga games market, but it's now been ported and released on MacOS, iOS, Blackberry & Android! Awesome!

You can now enjoy 'Z' over 15 years after its PeeCee release! Finally!

Clickboom promised it in 2001 but along with Worms Armageddon (what happened Hyperion?) it looks like you really have to look at other platforms these days to fulfill the Amiga promises. I got Worms Armageddon for the PS1 booted up on my PS2 about 5 years ago and it comes out every Christmas for multi-player fun. Lets hope that 'Z' is worth the wait on my Mac for a £4.99 download! Bargain

MacOS version HERE!

Other versions HERE!

@BigD

I seem to remember reading that the Worms Armageddon licence was only valid for the Gateway Amiga NG thingy.

Time has moved on and Hyperion seem to have their hands full with AmigaOS. Well seriously, if Hyperion can't now secure ports of 'Z' and Worms Armageddon over 15 years after their release then what hope have we of ever seeing an Amiga games scene again? The Bitmap Brothers and Team17 are likely to be sympathetic to the cause so it would worth a shot. I certainly didn't see BoH as a selling point for the X1000 or even the 440EP for that matter, however nice a distraction the game was. The two games mentioned do not require 3D drivers etc and their release would strongly hint at the fact that the platform is moving in the right direction.

That's right.

I don't see why it should be down to Hyperion and we've already deduced that they don't have the resources. They already have a load of other licenses that probably are valid but they haven't the time/money.

I doubt anyone who bought those systems did either.

Amiga OS4 is a hobby system. It's not going to set the world on fire but hopefully satisfy people who have a great love for Amiga OS and maybe build into something sustainable.
For games you have to rely on the various porters or original stuff from people like AmiBoing, Glames and Crisot or get stuck in and do something yourself.

I see your point but these are not hobby-priced machines. I expect to be able to do more with my computer if I'm spending £1000-£2200! Playing a 15 year old game that Hyperion/Clickboom already has a license for should be a given!

@BigD

I would say just opposite, they are hobby priced machines. I have several machines, many of those are not hobby priced if we belive you. Blizzards and Apollos, 68060 accelerators, they aren't cheap, so they are not hobby priced?

But seriously, who can give a price for a hobby? You want to get economy priced hobby, ther are plenty of them.

A N D about Z, there is a easy way to get Z for Amiga http://zod.sourceforge.net/

I only see Windows and Linux builds on your linked page. I tried Open Red Alert and that was a waste of time even on a 060 Classic. I really don't see the point in wasting my life tweaking this open source stuff to get it creaking along on an Amiga. If it were easy to get it working on an Amiga/AmigaOne then it would already have a port on the Sourceforge website!

Oh yeah and regarding hobbies: I count making Airfix model airplanes and playing tennis as 'hobby' activities. Last time I checked Humbrol Glues and a tube of tennis balls didn't come in at anything close to the price of an AmigaOne machine

One of my other hobbies is modifying cars.

I bought a set of these a few years ago.

Or I could buy the Mac version for a fiver! Forget about it.

My point was that Clickboom had the license to release this and Hyperion had the license to release Worms Armageddon. Since they can, they is no reason they shouldn't! The X1000 launch could have been a major Amiga relaunch if the same effort was put into the launch of new software/games etc. Instead all we have is the news Hollywood is now unavailable to buy and the reality that PageStream 5 on AmigaOS4.x is still unstable! The least we could expect to raise morale is a couple of ancient games!

Yes, Hyperion are doing a great job, as are Trevor/A-Eon and ACube but we need software badly.

Buy it for your Mac, that is the platform you have and obviously OS4 systems are too expensive to be attractive to you.

Clickboom left the market so the Z license is irrelevant and like I said the license for Worms Armageddon is invalid too. Hyperion do have other licenses but they can't hope to make money from Mac and Linux ports like their original plan so it's better for them to just cut their losses. OS4 is a big enough money pit for them already.

You have to accept OS4 for what it is, make the most of it and help in whatever way you can. Otherwise it is better to turn away from it and never look back.

@BigD

arrange the liscense and i will get it ported and released/published.

i could always contact the ip holder but i have been in talks with them before and back then we struggled to get a proper deal.

Great guys and very open but do not give them any impression of the game selling more than 100 copies or so if you opt to get a liscense then make sure you get it for free or for a cheap lump of cash (both pretty viable options today, 15 year old game, source have been reversed engineered (albeit broken) and retro is "in" today and Kuju and tower studios).

anyway, someone with good writing skills and time to pull a deal together can contact me and we can share info and contacts.

@all

i have got a lot of offers to help with getting this game onto the Amiga , people have mailed me all day today and i got quite a few yesterday too...

so now i wonder if its worth it, how many would be interested in buying an overpriced (most likely) Amiga version , also on which formats. (i am not pro any formats any more but i only use 1 of the 4..).

Psst for all the mails guys, i will respond to you all asap.

Yeah. it would be cool to have an OS4.x version. I'd view it as a positive for investing in the platform.

I don't think you should be trying to put me off OS4.x systems!

People like me are the only ones aware of the new Amigas and with the passion to tell other ex-Amigans if we like what we see. Should the NG machines pose a real world use that I could justify to my wife I'd buy one. However, until that time I'll make do with my Classic machines for my Amiga buzz.

The lack of a stable Pagestream 5 and the inability to buy Hollywood at the moment are other major drawbacks for me investing in the platform. RuninUAE however has great possibilities. Where's the online classic Amiga game store to make use of it?

If you were really into OS4 and were willing to accept the downsides then I'd say go for it.

The fact is that it sounds like you might be dissatisfied with the experience and under those circumstances I wouldn't like to be in the position where I'd influenced your decision.

@Toaks

How about Zod engine? How near original experience it is? PPC amigas would run SDL happily, but 68k would require native graphics routines. Wich is quite much like amiga ports was done past.

I don't have a problem to pay software.

I played this on the PC back in 2003/4, and it was a really nice game. Lots of humour and a different take on the CnC styled gameplay that it employs.

I've been meaning to go back to it for years, but I suspect it doesn't work so well on modern PCs.
