I tried it under Linux and with the default settings it was just as slow as in AOS.
So I changed to another gfx-driver and then it worked perfectly (speed-wise).
I don't know if that's related and I don't remember the name of the setting. |

| When playing ".wmv" files in MPlayer, there seems to be quite a bit of 'artifacting' compared to playing the same file on a pc.
Of course I can't complain. Before MPlayer I couldn't play wmv files AT ALL on my A1.

OSD (and subtitles) work here. The fonts go in conf/font/ - no 's' in font

@Valiant
it is strange because there is no 'too many layers' message on mplayer.. this could depend from an os4 component. When you play DVDs try with:
run >nil: -vo cgx_vmem -framedrop -dvd-device a1ide.device:x dvd://1
and tell me if you see something. If you see nothing it is probable that you have a unsupported dvd. But i'm not sure of this. |
When I tried playing an encrypted DVD with MPlayer this is what I got:
6.Programs:Creativity/Video/Viewers/MPlayer> mplayer -vo cgx_vmem -framedrop -dvd-device si680ide.device:0 dvd://1 MPlayer - 1.0pre6.003 (26-01-2004) (C) 2000-2005 MPlayer Team AltiVec found CPU: PowerPC
0 mplayer 1 -vo 2 cgx_vmem 3 -framedrop 4 -dvd-device 5 si680ide.device:0 6 dvd://1 81 audio & 192 video codecs Using timer.device timing Playing dvd://1. Error getbuskey: 45 libdvdread: Could not open device with libdvdcss. libdvdread: Can't open si680ide.device:0 for reading Couldn't open DVD device: si680ide.device:0
Exiting... (End of file)

I think that overlay is what slows it down most. Like I wrote it was just as slow under Linux using the default config. With the default config, overlay didn't work. So I changed the video-settings, got overlay working, and DVD was working like a dream (well, allmost (no menu)).
So even if DMA matters I think that overlay is the biggest problem. |

Have a look in the folders. It seems like he's copied the fonts from the folders to conf/fonts/ .
I haven't tried fonts at all yet. |

Yep, I copied the files in the 14pt dir, just like the readme in the fonts archive says and it works.

Yes, I do. Why? Is there a problem with that?

No problem! But one usually put the harddisc in the primary master. And the DVD in the secondary master.. Or if only cable is available, on the primary slave.
I don't know if it has any speed difference during boot.

This is exactly the error that I reported a week or so ago (rossv said he encountered it as well it only happens on encrypted disks) , (my DVD is a samsung sm-374 on secondary master)
