moovid has worser quality on the picture than mplayer? ...oh ok.. thats a first...

DMA is needed to watch a DVD from cd/dvd as its been told a million times before ?

my fullscreen use the fullscreen, it depends on your settings in p96mode.

@Toaks

Yeah that's right, much worse picture!!!

When I enter the option DITHER to smoothen these large
blocks of colors it does NOTHING. Also windows play
seems not to be possible.

If you know some way to get Moovid to play my DivX movies
I've tried better please tell me.

I tried this: Moovid AHI DITHER WINP
This brings up the file requester and I just choose the movie.
It plays ONLY in full screen with REALLY bad quality!
It looks just like I has gone from 24bit to 8bit when playing.
Really bad colors!

Can it be that I have to force it to play in a 24bit screen mode?

@Samwel

Moovid beta use 16bit colors.
Use "WINDOWPLAY" for fullscreen.

@Samwel

I use c:moovid filename.avi winp ahi . This works very well here.

You'll get blocky gfx in fullscreen since overlay isn't working at the moment.

Colors only works if wb is set to 16-bit.

@Samwel

I agree. I don't think the actual picture quality is worse, but the playback certainly is - it's all jumpy, like it's not running at full framerate. AMP2 and MPlayer don't have this problem.

@afxgroup

Does mplayer take notice of the input.conf file? I'm trying to assign the left mouse button to the quit option with a line like:

MOUSE_BTN0 quit

But it doesn't work.

Chris

@Chris_Y

it should work, but there are many things i must test. It is most probable that vo_cgx doesn't pass to mplayer the mouse event. I'll check it.

Has anyone tried to use it with RealMedia videos?

Not strictly true, AMP 2 manages to play DVD's at pretty much full frame rate without CD-ROM/DVD DMA (tested on unencrypted DVD's). AMP2 certainly is the quickest DVD player at the moment.

Not to knock MPlayer of course, that is my current favourite!

Cheers,
Bean.

@ikir

I have increased the stack to 999999 and also tried with a fresh installation.

Still no luck getting a movie to play for more than a few seconds without a full computer lockup.

@Bean

ok, when i compare amp2 with dvplayer amp2 feels pretty bad so i guess i need to fix my hw or something.

as for mplayer vs amp2 , well mplayer played smoother on release 2 compared to the latest release (DVD) but its still far from good.

what i do like about mplayer is the slickness of avi and mpg playback and that vmv works and so on! and ofcourse its just a beta so im very happy.

mplayer roolz!

My system is:

A1-XE/G3
512Mb Ram
Radeon 8500
Soundblaster 5.1
Sil IDE card
120Mb Hard Drive
40Mb Hard Drive
LiteOn CD/RW
4.0 pre-release with update 2

The line I use is :

mplayer -vo cgx_wpa::ALWAYSBORDER filename

I also get a lock up if I try the MPlayer GUI.

The movie that guarantees me a lock up after a few seconds is located here:

http://www2.ati.com/misc/demos/ati-radeon-x850-dangerouscurves-movie-v1.0.mpg

I have also tried no sound without any luck.

@busytech

sorry, but why you use wpa instead of vmem?

You have a common problem on AmigaOS (i have same problem with mplayer). It seems that when CPU goes 100% the system hangs. wpa use cpu more intensely than vmem (and overlay of couese). So you should use vmem. It is more speedy too.

On my system, if I use -ahi the playback is slowed down but not if I use -ahi_dev.
Do you know the reason for this?

@busytech

have you tried changing vcore to the correct value?
My XE/G3 crashed a lot before I did that.

Now... has anyone managed to get subtitles for DIVX working?
Where can I find the default.sub file?

@spotUP

Exactly. If wpa use 100% cpu and busytech's A1 crash it is a vcore problem. busytech, have you changed it with the right value?
