Seriously though, this question is asked quite a bit, and that's the only answer you'll get I'm afraid. The devs do apparently have some sort of internal schedule, but we'll only be told once it's very near to completion.

---edit---

Beaten again, I see

@Erci77

I've got 5:29PM EST. Though I suspect that OS 4.0 will be released finally after that. AKA "When it's done!"
Really, it's like watching watter boil. "is it?" "nope, not yet!" "Now?" "Nope!"
I think there is a good feeling that it maybe sometime this year. Maybe we should start a pool.

I also do understand some of you getting tired of getting the answer "When it's done", instead of giving some kind of a progress and status report. With a report, we would be able to get a picture of when the final OS4.0 actually could become finished.

And like has been stated in countless posts before, some centuries before people started to resolve to "When it's done": There's no point in setting a date as it has only led to misery before.

If you want to know how the progress is attend to your local party where you know beta testers will attend shoing latest OS4.

@nicomen

But some people are not able to access such a party anytime, then it's back to the reporting issue again...

10 o'clock, or when it's done, whatever comes first

You will never get a more to-the-point answer. It's definitely correct.

Great, you want update 3, and a progress report, and the final version ? Three things at once, that's not possible (pun intended).

Honestly, what do you expect ? We're currently finalizing OS4, fixing bugs, etc. What status report do you want ? Number of bugs still to squish ? Should I post something here everytime someone from the team found a bug ?

No, you wouldn't. Simply because it's not possible. I could tell you when I _think_ we'll release it, but I won't. The problem in engineering is always the problem that you can't say how long something takes to finish. You can _guess_, but you can't say for sure. Look at Longhorn: Microsoft is a friggign multi-_BILLION_ dollar company. They spent more money on coffee than the whole Amiga market ever generated. Still, they can't tell you when Longhorn's coming... So how the frell should we tell you when OS4's coming ?

I could try to project something, but that would probably be wrong. What would you learn from that ? Nothing.

No, we're not giving out a release date until we can actually be sure we can realistically hit the target. Until then, it's "when it's done".

Without wanting to annoy you further; does this mean that the next update (when it's done...) will effectively be OS4 final, or are you planning an interim Update 3? Or can't you tell us?

(I'm willing to bet a shiny English pound that if I get an answer to this it'll be something like "One of those options, yes." )

I personally believe update #4 will be the final Os4

There is not going to be a progress report. Simple as that. Hyperion will tell us when it is ready. Any hint for a date is going to be hell. And why? Well let me tell yah. If they even hint at a certain month and that month will pass without the release people will be all over them. So that is why no indication of a date.

@Erci77

As you see there is no word on when. Like I said if a date is given and not being made people will take them apart. So no one can say when.

People as you can see the postcount in Erci77's profile is very low and that means he is not much active and might wonder after the last time he checked what the status is. So he's just being honest. Now if there is someone with a few hundred of more asking the same thing you can let the dogs go but go easy here on Erci77. Ok?

Fully ripped out of context:

What's the *intrinsic* value of a US$ nowadays? Doesn't it resemble a recently broken off leaf of a white oak tree on a sunny, windless late autumnday? Therewith rendering MS (and their offerings) a nondescript untertaking?
And is coffee THAT expensive ATM? Good Lord, glad I'm a teatotaller: Ceylon, Assam, Nan Yuh, Lapsang. Or were Amigas THAT cheap in their heighdays? No, come to think of that, they had a name to cost you an arm and a leg, but then again, most computers did. The conclusion arises that it is the common denominator that is at play here: the value of the US$! Mark my words!

Anyway, I'll bide my time and wait for and then go for the afterparty: 4.1, 4.2. 4.2 and risin...

I'm not 100 % sure, but I _think_ there will be an update pretty soon. If there is, it will be the last one before final release (knock on wood).
