@Jeremy_Reimer

Without a doubt Final Writer 97 is a winner in my court. Unfortunately Softwood no longer has the rights to the software since it was sold to a firm that supposedly was going to sell it in a CD version along with other Softwood software. I remember going to their web site to say I was interested, but they NEVER got back to me. I now have a new 2.7 GHz Mac, but still can't wait till i can buy a new AMIGA with the final 4.0 OS. Hopefully, something will be available for AmiWest in Sacramento. That's the only way I will be attending this year. God I miss Amiga!

AmigaWorld.net staff are still discussing precisely what to do with the site to make it a more appealling support structure for OS4 users and potential OS4 users. Stay tuned.

In the meantime an appeal.

Anyone who has found ANYTHING useful from either inside this site or outside it in order to get products, things, software working on AmigaOS4 PLEASE post a link to it here in reply. This will make the job of filling what we are intending to do with content MUCH easier.

Im looking for:

1. Problems, issues or solutions getting hardware working
2. Problems, issues or solutions with installation
3. "" "" "" OS4 native software
4. "" "" "" 68k emulated software

Im also looking for:

1. Rumoured product releases
2. Rumoured new platforms

Really, anything that ever helped anyone. PLEASE.

PLEASSSSSE

@Wiffy

We are looking at a structure like this, much more flashy and accessible of course:

http://amigaworld.net/modules/features/index.php?op=r&cat_id=9&rev_id=95&sort_by

Also changes to the main portal layout to make it easier to find this catalogue front page, better rewards for submitting articles and better labels on the contents of the blocks that we have anyhow.

@Wiffy

Wiffy, do you want to expand this to "possible configurations of hardware" too? (Thinking of my post about whether OS4 can boot from a SATA controller...)

Cheers!

@Reaps

Yep. Please. Anything we can use as a basis of static articles to share information, be linkable from elsewhere and might be of use to other users.

Might aswell toss in my few pennies worth....

There are several things one needs to have a sustainable market:
1: Products to sell
2: Dealers to sell them
3: Users to buy them.

As it is now, we have little to none of all 3 points, and all 3 need to be improved.

One way to do this could be if shareware authors get (local?) dealers to distribute their software titles, thus providing said dealer(s) with extra income, offcourse, this requires thrust from both parties & a solid base of cooperation.

We *NEED* more hardware, and we need it available in sufficiant numbers to the dealers.

Increasing users will only happen when we have products to sell them.

@Wiffy

I have some input to the hardware list :

1) once you let users add data, you have to provide very strict rules on what to add in a description, otherwise you'll get data that is incoherent or downright wrong.

2) One thing that I know bothers the more techie type of people is that often, hardware compatibility lists says "Card X works". While this is interesting information, it is (I think) vital to specify that this card has chip Y onboard (and that is what the driver, Z, supports).

At this nitty gritty level, only authorized people should have right to add to, in my opinion. Once that chip is up, let people add cards that works with this chip to these lists.

Not sure exactly how to visualise this so that both the "geeks" and the newcomers will find the information easy. I've thought abit about a tree view :

Chip : Working: Not Working!
================================
chip X --- card A Card F
|---- card B
\___ card C

chip Y -- card D
\ card E

(ok, it cut out all my nice little spaces there.. hope you get the jest of what I mean anyway)
I think I'll leave this to the designers ;)

Regarding the changes in Uboot settings to get Final Writer working, the same settings allow Protext to work as well (Which used to lock up on starting just like FW )

My contribution to the cause :
I have a load of old magazine cover CDs here, and I am slowly going through them to make a list of working software. I will publish a list of what I find in the next few weeks, I have only just started this project, one very good program I have found so far is a spreadsheet program called TurboCalc. Tell ya what, it FLIES on OS4.

@AmigaOneProductions

What version is it?
I have version 5 here, wondering if I should give it a go.

Also has anyone managed to get Wordworth 7 to install?
On mine if I choose intermediate install, it says there isn't enough space on my applications partition, yet, I have over 2gb left!

If I set it to novice, It starts to copy files like fonts to the ram disk for installation, then hangs

Any tips appreciated

@Mikey_C

You could try & see if there's a local copy of installer included on the disk/cd, it's possible that the old version contains bugs hindering it from completing, i honestly don't remember the installer from WW7

v4 works as well, that's what I use.

@Mikey_C
Wordworth should install fine, but you will need to run the install script with the newer version of Installer.

Go into a Shell and cd to the WW7 CD, and then type:
sys:utilities/installer ww7-install

I'm not sure about the "ww7-install" bit, you will need to check what the actual install script is called.
