I would like to draw your attention to issue 35 of GamesTM (www.gamestm.co.uk).

Make your way to the Retro section & page 148 & have a read of the Putty review (Greatest Retro Game Ever, Nice ) The last 2 paragraphs are an eye opener. After talking about the Amiga market & it's difficult situation, Dan Phillips (Main programmer) explains that the cost of mastering, suplicating & manual printing would have made it a prohihitive release, then follows with:

Quote:
"It's a real shame, although I'm sure I've still got a copy of it lying around somewhere."

Hold the fort!

Can we get in touch with this man? Buy him a drink? Invite him to BB3? See if he can find Pusst Squad? And maybe, just maybe, (If he can find it). Convince him to either release the game as public domain (I don't know if it was actually the property of System 3, did it get that far?) or release it in digital format (Available to download via. our current outlets, AmigaKit, GuruMeditation etc...) to cut out the mastering, duplication & manual costs?

Can we do anything to get hold of this game & create history???

FuZion.

PS. In the same mag, there'a nice Amiga article (Hardware Legend) on page 138 & a superb Rafelle Cecco interview on page 142. What an issue!!!

@FuZion

he said the very same thing back in 99...

imo its a dead end , seen this all too often and since we did all we could to try and find it by contacting system3, alive and epic.

anyway if you do then i will put some cash into the pot (if he puts up some sort of donation bin or whatever)

@FuZion

sorry broken link.

You can find here the demo version in HD installed form (maybe using whdload)

It seems that game was 100% complete in 1994, but authors wait for mail by interrested users before publish it.

I thought someone might get there before me!

I read that and thought exactly the same thing as you - maybe we should ask GamesTM's Retro editor to have a go for us?

It's a great issue of the best games magazine, but I'm always annoyed when they have the A500 in there, and subsequently progress straight to the CD32 - where's the A1200 for Glod's sake?!?

@Toaks & Mikey_C

I know I know... But reading the article is like opening up an old sentimental wound. I too would contribute.

@Petrol

Cheers for the link. I already have the demo installed here & booting in OS4 from it's own icon with UAE. It's a bloomin' fun game.

@AndreasM

It seems that GamesTM have been in contact with him. I wonder if that could be a potential window.

@wegster

The article is in the current issue of the mag itself (Paper stuff), it has a game called "F.E.A.R" featured in the front cover. I think the website refers to previous issues & articles.

@amipal

We must have been typing our messages at the same time

No time like the present eh? I couldn't find a contact for the GamesTM crew, but a forum is a good a start as any. Feel free to join in & make some noise

Maybe they could buy it, and publish it exclusively on their cover CD.

I'd certainly buy a copy of the mag just for that.

@FuZion

That'll teach me not to pay proper attention. For some reason I thought the magazine in question was Retro Gamer.

Hmm.. maybe they could put a coupon in the back where you send off for it, or order it from the website for a small fee.

Chris

@Chris_Y

The coupon thing could be an idea yeah but I think our first step is to get Dan's buy in. We need to first find out whether he'e even interested in salvaging the game. As Toaks has mentioned, Putty Squad has been mentioned by him in the past but no actual plans have come to fruition.

On one of my posts above I've popped a link to the GamesTM forum where I've replied to a thread on the Retro section of the mag in question.

If we make as much noise as possible maybe, maybe, Dan will come along & give us a glimmer of hope. Also, maybe not but it's worth trying.

It's probably just me but after reading the article, having people ask the people that made the game, it feels like another chance. Rather than shooting in the dark, thread after thread after request on websites that don't have a lead. This is a lead & not a shot in the dark.

System3 is out of the picture, they are not interested as well as many other companies
(try asking LucasArts for some other games than Star Wars crap...)
I think its only on the guy mentioned above. And coz the article is from current issue, I think it should be possible get the contact from the mag or at least make some rush on their forum...
