Hi Rogue!

This is no pressure on a release date or anything..
I would just like to know if you could share some info on the current state of update 4.

About three weeks ago you seemed quite sure it would be released in 2-3 weeks.
Has anything happened? Maybe you're busy with other stuff? Maybe you've stumbled on
some serious problems? Maybe it's finished and I'm asking these questions for nothing?

Please, if you've got some time, let us know.

@Reaps

But is that good enough?

Is it really that unresonable for them to keep us informed, is it really that unreasonable for them to say "Hopefully this date, no sorry, bug problems have ment that they'll be out for this date"?

Is it reasonable for them to give a vague time and then when that slips not say anything?

Well, that depends on a great many things. I suppose by rights, they don't (and didn't) have to tell us anything. Many things can happen that take higher priority in people's lives (and software development projects) than keeping us informed.

Reasonable? Perhaps not, but understandable. That maybe just the software engineer in me talking.

@Reaps

Notice the retorical questioning?

Here's another one:

Why should the software Engineers be doing talking to the public? not some PR droid, the type that will take, "Dunno" and turn it into an acceptable release date for the plebs.

Crumbs... people really are getting desperate! Don't you think, if Rogue had something to say, he would have already said it?

I'd like to know when OS4 pre 4 is due out too, but I don't want a release date as it probably won't be met, and I don't want "when it's done" either. That doesn't leave much!

#EDITED# wrong guy!

Come on guys try to be more patient, when getting a release out there are often some unexpected problems popping up that need to be resolved, it's better to have an update a few weeks late but all issues resolved, instead of a few weeks earlier but with some annoying bugs/problems in there, or some features taken out due to some issues.

i can't understant why they don't do it. it's not logic. and i feel bad about it.
things look more and more like when i was on pegasos.
despite something like quick notice on the forums here or elsewhere would contentate everyone.. grr
that drive me mad .. they're lucky i like amigaos otherelse, i would say: you see?
i'm done with it, now keep it foerever if you wish i don't care.
a cat is a cat.
early january is early january.
if they can't make it in time, nobody will die, but just a quick notice to inform , and everyone is set.
but no.. they don't do it .. they don't care..

*sighs*

Yeah I guess I should say something.

The update is coming along, I will release the second release candidate to the testers today. If all goes well it should be out somewhere next week. If issues pop up, it will be delayed a bit. This is hard to predict.

In general, it's

You don't seem to realize just how difficult a prediction is. I have released an RC and got a two-page list of issues. I correct these, release a new RC and fix any issues that pop up there. If you can tell me how to predict a timeframe for the unpredictable, I'd be glad to hear it.

Early January is already gone, and I think you found out that the update isn't there yet. So what exactly do you want to hear? Something like "It's delayed". Alright, here you have it: "It's delayed".

they don't care..

What a h... sorry not going to say that.

It was me that pushed for a comprehensive update when it became clear that we wouldn't have any hardware for a release. This is, as the name implies, the fourth update. You should really know by now that giving a precise date for it is next to impossible.

If we woouldn't care, if I wouldn't care, then we would have just said "oh, tough luck". The fact that we are INDEED taking the time (and as I might point out, three or so weeks of work now) to put out an update AT ALL should be a clear indication that we DO care. But you should know by now that we are trying to make all our updates as good as possible, otherwise I would just throw a bunch of files at you and say "copy them to your harddisk" and be done with it.

So if you're done with AmigaOS now, sorry to hear that, but I can't change it. Please excuse me now so I can work on the frigging update some more and get it out for those that still care.

*shakes head and goes back to work*

@Rogue

That's really good news !
Would it be just a downloadable ISO or are you planning on sending some CD out as well ?

Would it replace completly the system or do you need to have Update 3 Installed first (I have anyway... But in case of a Full re-install...) ?

Jerry

Can it! If they didn't care they wouldn't have bothered coding the thing from scratch in the first place.

What is going on with this community sometimes?

Perhaps you would like to lambast Microsoft in the same way when they are late with the next version of windows? Obviously they don't care either do they.

Try waking up yourself and realise that things don't always go according to plan.

@freaks

Did you not post the same stuff some time ago about they don't care and they should do this etc.? And in the end you understood and had peace with it?

Yeah right.

Dude they just said it could be end of Januari or beginning February a short while ago. They did inform so what more do you want? They did what you are complaining about. Tsk tsk.
