@CodeSmith

1st of all I only used SteamDraw to illustrate what I think is the basic misconception in the "OS4 is so fast it doesn't need better HW"-dogma, and if MorphOS was in a similar situation (say Peg2 never appeared and Efika the best hope of new HW) I would have ceased development years ago (or moved it to another platform.)

Bout actually doing an OS4-port, if all goes as planned for the next 12 months (but we all know that rarely happens ) SteamDraw would be at a point where asking a small ShareWare-fee might seem acceptable. At this point I WILL see to make it run on other platforms that promise a descent return of investment.

In order for this it needs:

a) decent specced (and priced) HW actually available
b) a user-base that can't be counted on my fingers (which won't happen after a) is fullfilled).

Atm it looks like that OS4-market will stil be in the low 4 digit number, and with an adoption rate of 1/100 (which is actually quite optimtic) I wouldn't even come close to get a payback on the 1000Euro I would need to invest into the system.

Add to that that these few costumers would probraly be constantly complaining SteamDraw would be to slow on their systems.....

Why not more often ?

I try to visit your site at least once a week to keep up, even if I don't post there too often.

Your Amiwest speech was very interesting, I was glued to the stream.

There isn't a transcript of the speech ?

@all

I hadn't kept up-to-date with the AmiWest show, much less the follow-up reports et al. Any concluding remarks?

@Carl-S

Sounds like you had fun at AmiWest. I really enjoyed your "fireside chat" (listened from afar via the audio feed).

Thanks for sharing your ideas with us. No doubt, you have noticed there are many opinions expressed here on Amigaworld.

I just don't get it. Why do some people want to turn the Amiga into a PC. I don't want a PC whether it runs OS4 or not.

Not everyone chooses hardware for sentimental reasons. There's price, performance, and practicality to consider, and in these areas PC hardware is overwhelmingly superior.
None of the PPC hardware shown satisfies any sentimental reasons anyway, even if that were the main factor, it has nothing at all to do with previous Amiga hardware, at all.

It's 2006, why are the terms "PC" and "x86" still being used like they were the N word?
