I suppose that -Sam- was alluding to the hilarious McEwen interview with Temple of Technology. That "better than OS X" bit actually came from him:

Indeed I was.

Thanks for setting me straight on this and for pointing out that 'hilarious' interview with Bill, which I had unfortunately missed.

What is there to know? Would I mind an x86 port? No, not at all.

For the rest, please refer to my earlier postings.

Where can I buy the platform you are porting to? And - is it licensed to run OS4? Remember, in the past you kept telling us that you "can't port to platform X because there is no license".

Look at the poll results; at the moment of writting this message, there was 385 for YES, 98 for MAYBE, 50 for NO.

If os4 would actually appear for x86 for a price less than 50$, both groups for YES and MAYBE would BUY os4. For that price even me, from poor Serbia, would buy it although i voted MAYBE.
That is 385+98=483 (90%) much much more than NO group.

How many ppl still visit amiga sites? Let us say it is 5.000. Keeping the above calculation of 90% that is 4.500 copies x 50$ = 225.000$

But, how many ppl would actually give money for some fancy, probably bad supported and overpriced h/w? Would it be more than 1.000?!? I doubt, a1 hardly reached 2.000. The real estimates would a top of 500 units, for the devoted hard core amigans with lot of money in their pockets.

Get real, if hyperion is about to NOT MAKE x86 version, it will drop in bussiness, sooner or later. Bill's joke interview is only that; joke interview. Promising OS5 when OS4 is years late in schedule... I give $50 bet that os4 WILL appear sometime and NEVER EVER be developed. They will pick money just to pay off their investment and dissappear from stagnating market. Because of ppc price, the market is not about to extend, but even more shrink.

But with x86 os4, the market CAN, and probably WILL extend for new users.

Long live AROS, the only future amiga!

Indeed. Has there ever been an attempt to get Amiga Inc. (and Eyetech too if needed) back to the negotiating table to try and change the current license situation so that Hyperion could become allowed to do Mac, x86, etc. if Hyperion and "some hardware vendor" wants to? I realize that this question may step into "not for public consumption" territory, but I haven't seen it asked before so what the heck.

I *think* that the point of a poll is for people to give their opinion, and although it might not coincide with YOUR opinion, classifying people that say No as "unserious" is just another example of a narrow-mindedness.

It is this kind of arrogance that always ticks me off.

I'd like to know what conclusions Carl-S came to. Although perhaps we can infer, from the fact that he hasn't logged back in two weeks... (Of course, he may just be busy)

Define "majority of poeple can be so low".

Well I doubt they wouldn't port to something unless either requested to by Amiga Inc, or unless Amiga inc had at least indicated that they would grant a license (even if contracts have yet to be physically signed) otherwise they'd be wasting their time.

Troika and other companies seem to have got licenses for some boards, why Hyperion couldn't get a license for x86? Or have Troika special influence over Amiga Inc? I don't think so... If such a small company can get a license for expensive boards why can't Hyperion get a license for a x86 port?

I don't care what arcitecture Amiga OS is on, as long as I can get a computer to run it that is as powerful as any other computer on the market. The latest Amiga hardware does not cut it for me.

Why not just email the guy right now and ask?

Carl does answer emails and I have proof of that. Just make sure to be succinct.

Possibly because that would put him in the unenviable position of speaking here
for Carl.
The expectation of the majority here, based on Carl starting this thread, is for
Carl to state in his own words for all to see what he has concluded.

Eh, sorry? No-one has got a license yet, according to Bill McEwan himself.

@Crumb

Speculation. I invite you to try and get one, then we can talk.

At the moment, Hyperion wouldn't even think about anything as big as an x86 port, because first of all we're going to actually *finish* this thing.

Besides, you may have seen that I wrote I would not object to porting it to x86. I never said that there are ANY plans to do so, nor that anyone at Hyperion is considering this.

I guess that's an improvement over your previous statements (6-12 months ago) where you said something to the effect that you hated x86 & wouldn't ever port OS4 to it...
