Hm, Jackson Browne. used to be one of my favourites in the 70's. Very fine singer and songwriter. Fond memories.
Downloaded a number of the files on YouTube.
But, beware of the the correct spelling of his name BrownE.

Thanks for the correction and my appologies to Mr. Browne. He always had a trunk full of songs I liked. He wrote serveral good ones for the Eagles too.

It looks about average for a hockey team arena. You can see the scale in reference to the pickup trucks parked near by. And the building extends back beyound the yellow roof/facia line. Ya don't get the same large crowds as say basketball.

They bought a different "suite".... 3rd stall, ground floor, mens room. Right next to 'The Fonz'.

Sure you get the "same large crowds as say basketball", since they generally play in the same buildings.... assuming of course the city in question supports hockey. The differentiating factor here is, the Seattle Thunderbirds are a JUNIOR team, not professional.... essentially a bunch of kids trying to make it to the pros. They're AT LEAST a couple of steps down from the big time, so of course crowds at their games are gonna be relatively small..... I'd guesstimate the most they'd ever draw would be ~ 10,000, and even that would be very optimistic. |

You don't wanna see our local shinty teams ground then. Other than the shed for keeping the corner flags and a shack which doubles as a wall for the scoreboard and a food stand for the local butcher who sells pies, there really isn't much in the way of stadium. They are about the equivalent to the Thunderbirds in terms of professionalism and skill.

It all depends on your location. Canada, sure big crowds. Hot sunny south, not so big.
The common quote around here is.... Hockey?! It's 90 freaking degrees outside.
Now if they were smart, they would know there is a large cool slab of ice inside to give releif from that 90 degrees (32.2c)

Well, I was replying to what you said, as it applies to the Seattle Thunderbirds, and the Kent Events Center, i.e. even if the place was big enough to hold 15,000 - 22,000 fans, the Thunderbirds wouldn't draw that many fans, simply because they are a junior team.
As for the "hot sunny south", even the Thrashers draw more fans than the Kent Events Center can hold.

Heh, you got that right! I've gone into a few arenas during the summer heat, and it is rather refreshing - kinda like walking into the typical bank's A.C. |

Maybe they call themselves that for all I know but they are the farm team for the New York Islanders, one of our three local pro NHL teams. (The other two being the NY Rangers and the NJ Devils). I've seen a Sound Tigers game in person and I can tell you they are not pros compared to NHL teams. I guess maybe the AHL calls themselves pro? And maybe they indeed deserve to say that, I didn't mean to call them junior out of turn, but I can say when you live between three NHL teams watching the Sound Tigers that would not be the first word that comes to mind. Of course everything is relative. If there is a junior league below the AHL here, I didn't know it, so I always assumed them to be the junior league next to the NHL being pro.
Being that you are from Canada I'm sure you are much more likely to have the proper terms down for every league. Last edited by fairlanefastback on 24-Jun-2008 at 08:07 PM.

I did some web searching. Our local junior team is this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Applecore
Never heard of them, and no way they'd fill a 6000 seat arena, at least in these parts! _________________ Pegasos2 G3 running AOS 4.1 and MorphOS 2.0 Amikit user, tinkering with Icaros VM (AROS) EFIKA owner Amiga 1200 |

True enough, but then being from Canada doesn't automatically bring along those credentials - you need to be a hockey fan too.
As for the Tigers, and the AHL, yes, the AHL is indeed pro, i.e. those guys are being paid, and in fact, it's widely considered to be the top pro league feeding players to the NHL. There are other pro leagues(such as the East Coast Hockey League) that may or may not have NHL farm teams, but they're all considered to be inferior to the AHL.
Bridgeport is, of course going to seem like bad hockey compared to the NHL, but then those teams are pretty much stocked with 3 kinds of players - 1.) young guys, fresh out of junior, looking to impress and hoping to make it to the NHL, 2.) guys that haven't QUITE made it to the next level yet, but are still hoping to, and 3.) slightly older guys that probably will never make it to the NHL, and still want to keep playing for the pay cheque, or simply don't know when to quit. The AHL is pretty much the hockey world's equivalent of Major League Baseball's numerous TripleA farm teams.
As for junior hockey, there are LOTS of junior leagues around, and comparing that to the AHL is like night & day....

I've never heard of them either, but then there's likely plenty of junior leagues and teams I've likely never heard of, especially down south. Oddly enough, I looked at the list of alumni, and there were at least a couple of names I recognized, and one of them(Rob Scuderi) is currently playing for Pittsburgh in the NHL. |

This is the team where I am....

They share the same stadium with the basketball team.
Actually they didn't do too bad. I just looked it up and the average attendance for a game in 2007 was 15,000. I haven't been to a pro hockey game in about 20 years.

Scoreboard? Electric? Maybe I didn't explain it well enough. They write onto the wall with chalk.
And as for the pies. Heres a quick guide to a scots pie. Sometimes change isn't always good. Uhm, I already mentioned the Thrashers a few posts above, so I'm well aware of them. Their attendance this past season was probably due, in part, to their relatively successful season the year before, having made it to the playoffs.
As for it being 20 yrs. since you went to a pro hockey game.... where was that? If it was the Flames, in Atlanta, that'd be more like 29 yrs., at least, because they left town in 1980. |

That IS dating yourself - I'd never heard of them, so I looked it up, and they only existed from 1973-75! And btw, they were in the North American Hockey League(which only lasted from 1973-77), not the AHL(founded in 1936).... two different leagues. |
