It seems the City of Kent has chosen not to include the Seattle Times' "history of troubles" article (and others' follow-ons) in its "Latest Updates -- Recent News" list on that page. It's best to not confuse the good citizens with too much information, I guess.

Yeah I noticed that too. Can't say that I'm surprised though._________________ Pegasos2 G3 running AOS 4.1 and MorphOS 2.0 Amikit user, tinkering with Icaros VM (AROS) EFIKA owner Amiga 1200 |

Amiga: We are good for the money by By Steve Hunter City of Kent officials have asked Amiga to let them know as soon as possible that the company has the money to pay for the naming rights for the new events center.
|
Story is here (Kent Reporter): http://tinyurl.com/22pb9h
A couple of sections I found interesting:
Quote:
A three-member corporate board, which includes two of those investors, needs to sign off on any payments more than $1 million, McEwen said. Two of those members have approved the payment to the City of Kent but the third member is traveling outside of the United States and wasn’t expected to be reached until the end of the week.
|
It seems Bill may not have gotten full approval to make th deal for the $2.5 million intial payment.
Quote:
Meanwhile, Amiga shut down its Washington operation in 2004 and came back as a new company registered n Delaware. McEwen said with that separation the new company is not obligated to pay past debts. He said the old company does not have any money to pay debts.
|
Again at least in practical terms it sounds to me like Amiga Washington was insolvent.Last edited by fairlanefastback on 29-May-2007 at 10:17 PM. Last edited by fairlanefastback on 29-May-2007 at 10:17 PM.

Well...after reading hundreds of posts on all the websites and combining that with solid information on prior "wealth manufacturing" operations, I still see absolutely NO evidence that there was an attempt to actually succeed here. Note that I use "succeed" in terms that Amiga enthusiasts might define, and not in terms of what the VC's goals might be.

Thanks #6.
Its interesting, today is Friday so its the day Kent is hoping to get word on their earlier commitment hope/request for the $2.5 million. I'm curious if they will be getting a response from Amiga today, if they haven't already. And if they don't will they drop Amiga straight away, or not until they find someone else?
The City Council meeting agenda for the 5th hasn't been published yet, it will be interesting to see if anything related will be slated for it. _________________ Pegasos2 G3 running AOS 4.1 and MorphOS 2.0 Amikit user, tinkering with Icaros VM (AROS) EFIKA owner Amiga 1200 |

Well I suspect that if they do indeed drop them they will want to do so as quietly as possible. I doubt there will be much of a mob waiting, especially with the city only listing favorable news items in relation to the center on their web page. If they are smart they already started looking after the Seattle Times started asking questions mid last month. Whether Amiga can come through or not it would be the safe play IMO.Last edited by fairlanefastback on 01-Jun-2007 at 05:30 PM.

Added link to post#1 for "Events-center bids delayed" http://www.kentreporter.com/jumpstory.html?story=community1&pubdate=7/7/2007
Curious that in April the city said "The city will start ordering materials in a couple weeks."
Now...."Preparations for the proposed events center in Kent have been delayed at least two weeks after contractors asked for more time to submit bids to build the facility."
Err...what were they ordering 3 months ago in the way of materials if they don't even have a "winning" contract bid YET?
Another question... "Amiga officials have told the city they will come up with the money." Isn't that different than HAVING the money?

Added link in post#1 to story June 29, 2007 about LMN architects. Search shows the article to mention Amiga Center at Kent, but article is only available by subscription. Hence, no guarantee on the value of the content to this thread.

The thought struck me this a.m. that the forums... Quote:
Kent forum and message boards (2 amiga related threads):http://www.topix.net/forum/city/kent-wa |
for the city site wouldn't really be the place most people would post.
http://www.city-data.com/city/Kent-Washington.html
Under "forums" here they mention: Quote:
Recent posts about Kent, Washington on our local forum with over 100,000 registered users. |
Perhaps there might be more about how local people have reacted in this or some other local forum. Dunno. I haven't the time to scan all this.

Looks like its just a broad state by state forum with a small Seattle subsection. Only quickly scanned myself but does not look like where Kent folks post. From the pics of the city though it looks like a nice place to be outside, away from computers! :)_________________ Pegasos2 G3 running AOS 4.1 and MorphOS 2.0 Amikit user, tinkering with Icaros VM (AROS) EFIKA owner Amiga 1200 |

Well...the communication methodology sure sounds consistent:
Quote:
Amiga Managing Director Bill McEwan did not return several phone calls seeking comment. |
Heh! I wasn't stealing your quote. I'm on dialup and always come in 2nd...

Actually thats not that unusual a request for a stadium naming company. You dont seen any Officemax or Best Buy ads in the Staples center for instance. -Tig
