Is there a lot of difference between 2.4.26 and 2.6.16.35???
I will try upgrading. Are you running the stable, testing or unstable debian? I'm not sure if I have issues or not. I experienced random crashes (never before seen) and have seen dust on the fan (i know this should not be, so i'm considering changing).

There's a pretty big difference between 2.4.x and 2.6.x kernels. A lot of work has been done to improve the stability of Linux since the original 2.4.x kernels came out. I'm using the stable version of Debian. I used to use the unstable version (because certain apps I wanted only existed for Debian unstable) but, with the 2.6.x kernels, I started getting lockups on startup. That issue might be solved with the newer updates, but I'm not going to upgrade to unstable just to find out.

Burt, what's the issue? As per my last email to you I had indicated that I wouldn't have time for quite some time and gave you a price to perform the work. You have never been flexible regarding the time to get the work done, and personally, you complained about the price as well.

Adam, About the price, all, I said it was high (not knowing how many hours it can take) but fair given your high level of skill set. I realize this is a business and we all need to make a living, and as well this is opportunity cost for you (time away from other clients so you obviously cannot do it for free). I have been asking for this since August 2006 at least? Never really got a fair answer on this in terms of when is good for you. I stated my preference for weekends as I work weekdays, some days like today, long hours. However, I am willing to take a weekday off if needed (just let me know ahead of time). I'm away Jul 20-30.
I will strip the motherboard with module from tower to save you time - something you suggested. I would like to have the Amiga One DMA/USB fixed, verified that the module is ok too. If needed outfitted with better heatsink - is the original "IT" brandname enough?
Please mention the time & date to have this resolved, September - whenever, let me know. regards, Burt |

Just curious. Why don't you want to leave the board with ACK? Last edited by fairlanefastback on 17-Jul-2007 at 02:52 AM. Last edited by fairlanefastback on 17-Jul-2007 at 02:50 AM.

Because there's no point dropping it off and waiting for months. If Adam has the time, he will do it. I can drive 2 hrs to see him (I'm from Toronto). The DMA fix shouldn't take more than an hour, two or there at most. This should hopefully resolve my random crashes that I experienced in Linux. I'm pretty honest - I will let you guys know when it all works out ok, whenever it may be Will give credit when & where its due. |

Burt,
I'm in the same boat with respect to working long hours and a lot of 7 day weeks. I'm at the point where when I get "free" time, I try to spend it with my kids as I'm now separated. The next window of opportunity is the Labour Day weekend. After that, likely Canadian Thanksgiving.
The only firm committment is that it will run OS4 stable as I only test the boards with OS4. There will always be issues with Linux unless someone has incorporated some of the fixes we put in OS4 to get around the IRQ issue.

Adam, Sorry to hear about the separation... At times like this I dont regret being single... Labor Day/Thanksgiving weekend is great. I emailed you my phone #s at work/home - in case you get time before then... you can always contact me... I will drop everything else and I make the trip... with reasonable notice... this includes taking day off work... if it means doing usb/dma one day (you mention this would be 1 hr??) and somethng else on another meeting thats ok too. Perhaps all I need is the usb/dma fix for OS4 etc. I can meet twice if needed. It may be better for your schedule. Very flexible - whatever fits your schedule let me know. I'd like to get the USB/DMA fix done atleast for starters... thanks.
124am here... must catch some sleep ... and get up at 830 tomorrow...
Everyone here: I will keep you posted how this turns out. I also hope the other folks who may have their motherboards with Adam will get theirs back. I hope that maybe Adam, lets me take photos of any prototypes just to let us Amiga dogs salivate... Yeah i know what you all say - thats vaporware... i don't believe it... Adam is a very capable man and I know he has the prototypes... I know even with A1 and OS4 development he was spending good hours on this... See his personal situation may also explain no hardware production runs... Also that and the ongoing trial makes any production pointless... Why make hardware when you may not have the softwae - OS4??? Regardless, I will keep everyone here posted...

| @koan That's the surest way to put ACK off the idea of fixing his A1. I'm sure he has good reasons for refusing to release pictures of his prototypes (such reasons may be honest or dishonest, it doesn't matter in this case).
edit: And I'm disappointed (and worried) that ACK failed to answer your question about whether he had sent the boards yet. It would be nice if those promised to receive their boards told us their progress, such as receiving tracking numbers. Last edited by ChrisH on 17-Jul-2007 at 09:39 AM. I don't understand because you're still here. You should be banned weeks ago. You can have all ther reasons in the world, but your posts show how stupid you are. We are talking about Amiga stop attacking people on personal issues. _________________ ikir |
