Bean posted on the 20th that he had sent off the demo for demonstration.
here

It's possible that that post went unnoticed.

Probably you are right. I don't blame Bean for that. Just a discussion.

The development has been slow and bitty I'm afraid. I can't dedicate as much time as I'd like to, and I've now learnt my lesson in giving dates. I hope the demonstration showed some of skinning facilities potential (which has been in place for what seems like a lifetime now - remember the last Big Bash). One day I might even be able to release it!

Cheers,
Bean.

P.S. Hopefully it was shown at the AmiCon party this weekend as well.

@DiscreetFX

Sure. But after AInc has finished (in whatever way) - which may last some decades - how many potential customers (Amiga users) do you think will be left?

I'm also still waiting for new hardware and the release of AOS4 for it and this for several years now!

There are also quite a few other Amigans doing so (waiting), but waiting forever? Who will do so?

Since AInc seems to be blocking everything that would be helpful for a future of AOS4 there is no hope left!
The current lawsuit is the best proof! Nobody knows how long this will last!

OK, 2.12 am here in Italy. I came home from Pianeta Amiga some hours ago (10:30pm) and then went out for some friendly and absolutely Amiga unrelated boozing - it's Saturday night, after all - so forgive me for any error...

@mailman

Quote:
- if SAM is working

Yes. UBoot screen was shown, CruxPPC was working (a bit more unstable and uncomplete than the Efika and Pegasos versions that were running side by side, for instance regarding the audio part). There is also a very basic Debian distro for Sam , but I didn't see it live (if it was shown, that is). And then...
Quote:
- if it can be bought (as announced)

Yes, it was on sale.
Quote:
- what is the price (as announced, that should be available at 11 am)

Announcement and presentation came actually at 5pm, instead of 11am. Price is 489 Euro +VAT for the 667MHZ version with 512MB RAM. Since RAM is not very expensive and the difference between a 667MHz CPU and 533MHZ is some 15 Euro, the price for the lower end versions won't be much lower. At the show there was a special offer, and Sam440Ep could have been yours for "just" 449 Euro +VAT, which is the price that will be offered to developers. Complete systems should be about 700 Euro (VAT included). The complete system from ACube themselves might cost a bit more because they have chosen quality pieces (the Nexus case, for instance).
AmigaOS 4 is not bundled right now with Sam440Ep, it should cost in the region of 70-80 Euro + VAT. The classic version is almost done and won't be delayed due to the "legal affair". It just needs finishing the installer part. ACube is not willing to wait forever for AmigaOS 4 on Sam, they have set some kind of deadline for the situation to resolve legally... Otherwise, they might proceed anyway (but don't quote me on this, wait for those who attended carefully the whole announcement, I had a couple of machines, Peg2 and Efika, to take care, too... ).
Quote:
- what is going on with the representative of Hyperion.

Evert arrived quite late in the afternoon, more or less at closing time. I had to go home, but if he is going to say somethig, it will be at the dinner (and wine in that zone of Italy is *really*, and I mean *really* good, as well as food, meat in particular) or tomorrow at the closing hours of the show.

Enough for now.

Kind regards,
Andrea

At AmiCon in Hungary, we also had a Sam440EP board, which Cobra (of DVPlayer) presented to us. The hardware itself looks very promising, and it indeed works. This is definitely good news. The bad news is, that the software (at least what we've seen here) looks really unpolished, UBoot didn't support USB peripherials (that includes a keyboard too) so we had to use serial terminal, and TFTP to boot the thing. Also the graphics mode of UBoot was ####slow. Crux was working, but it was not quite stable yet, we had crashes... But first kernels for the Efika and the Peg were crashy as well. So that means nothing.

My guess is based on what we've seen in 2-3 more months it will have most of the bugs fixed, and half a year for all of the OSes working well on it. Given that no unfixable hardware flaws appear. All in all, i liked it, but it'd really need fixing the software side, before i'd consider buying one. But it's definitely something which worths waiting for.

@all

Tunenet was indeed shown with full skinning capabilities. It worked very well (no crash at all ) and all the people who tried it were very eager to get a copy . It was hard to tell them to wait for an official release. Someone made also a video of me demoing Tunenet. Maybe it will be released somewhere (don't expect anything, I'm not very good ad demoing software ).

DvPlayer was also shown and it also run very smoothly and with no crash.

SAM was on sale, it works and Crux Team fixed the sound problem reported by Guruman just before the end of the day.

For some organization problems the conference was held in the afternoon.

Unfortunately the internet bandwidth was not enough to produce a stream.

For the prices you can see Guruman's post.

OS4 was not on sale but the Classic Version packaging was shown. It seems that a release is not far away.

Guruman showed MOS with the third beta of Sputnik and other things (maybe he wil be more precise).

Andrea Palmatè showed GNUmeric for X11, Bourriquet and Transmission and held a conference.

Amikit version 1.4.0 was presented and distributed at the show.

Evert Carton arrived in the late evening (about an hour before the closing of the show) and he is present this morning.

Sorry for the quick report but the show is still going on...

I hope that someone will write a more detailed report in the next few days.

Sorry if I forgot something or someone but I don't have much time right now.

So the 550 Euro I quoted was INCLUDING VAT. Sorry for the wrong info.

I was also pretty sure that the difference for the 533 MHz was 60 Euro. Well, effects of aging. Sorry again.

I suppose both of you are right and the 60 Euro simply refer to the lowest spec, i.e. 533 + 256 MB.

@mailman

He did not make a public announcement/statement, yet.

He talked with many users and, obviously, with the ACube team (he was present at their tables all the time after his arrival).

BTW, I just made some shots of Crux running on SAM with a couple of applications under X, specifically OpenOffice.org 2.3 and Mozilla Firefox (latest version, I presume). I hope to be able to put them online as soon as I go home.

I forgot to mention that also present at the show was Michele Battilana of Cloanto.

Regards

Not so bad for the very first batch of motherboards, all produced in Italy with italian/european manufacturing costs...

Also remember that the first batch of a product line it is always aimed only at resellers, developers, and big industrial customers, which buy some just for evaluate.

Hope we will see soon see batches of Samanthas made in China, Taiwan or Singapore, low cost produced and reselled...

And also I hope again in a low cost-selling-projects aimed only at "POOR" developers, as like as the selling projects issued by Genesi with Pegasos and Efika
