| Hello all.
Seeing as this site is excellent for cross platform opinions, I wonder, if someone like Elbox or Acube announced a new PPC card for the classic Amiga, costing, say roughly,..
£280 UKP $580 USD ¤390 EUR $657 AUS $576 CAD
Would you be interested in buying one?
This is just a suppose, but you never know who is reading this...

Yes I would in fact I probably would buy two. I have several classic Amigas that would benefit from OS4. I would also buy the Shark PPC or PowerVixxen if they ever came out.

I'd prefer a new machine to a card.

The new machine already exists, its the SAM 440EP, we just have to wait until Amino finishes screwing us over.

| i probably wouldnt spend $600 or so on something with such little power... thats probably a bit too much, i know its hard when your not mass producing stuff, but its a fair whack of money on a toy hobby computer... id probably put the cash into powering up my PC even more and id have less to spend... musicians aren't exactly loaded and I need performance in computing for audio applications and man my overclocked PC with overclocked 8800GTS on my PC looks reeaaalll nice.
if a modern amiga was built with dual core 64bit CPU and support for a good graphics card and some games I would definately buy that.

| I wouldn't buy anything from Elbox, no matter what price and speed ..... I just like my RDB the way it is .....
Bout ACube, for that price I would atleast expect a G4, or atleast something a bit faster as the SAM and with all the bells&whistles ..... wether it can be conneceted to an Amiga or not doesn't matter.
I might also buy something like an EFIKA with A1200 slot, bt only if it's done right and at the right price (below 200 Euro street-price). Not that I would have any practical use for it, just for the geek-factor. _________________ - We don't need good ideas, we haven't run out on bad ones yet - blame Canada |

I already own a phase5 PPC card for my A1200 but I would quite happily buy a second faster PPC only card so I could replace my ageing card with a faster more modern one.
But it would have to clocked at lest 400 Mhz and work with OS4 before I would be willing to pay close to £300.
The main reason I would like to see a new classic PPC solution is the only way to get native AGA support under OS4 is by plugging a classic amiga mother board into your PPC board. _________________ Sam440ep 667mhz, 512MB, 120GB 2.5" HD, OS4.1FE WinUae 3.0.0, OS 3.9, BB3, Catweasel MkIV Amiga 1200, Blizzard 040/40 (BlizzardPPC 060/200 with SCSI removed at present), mediatorSX pci, Voodoo3, PCI network card os 3.9BB2 4MB Minimig with ARM addon boar |

Absolutely.
Even if the PPC card cost £499 I'd buy one for my A4000T.
The issue is availability on the SAM and how long it will take for the court case to end. Of course if Hyperion wins Amiga Inc. is effectively worthless so they will fight to the last to make sure Hyperion loose.
Maybe Hyperion will release it for SAM anyway? Would be a great Xmas pressy.
All the best to Hyperion. Against all the odds and against all of the flames you have brought to the Amiga market one last great product. _________________ Sam |

| @Mikey_C I would...
I imagine that people looking to expand their classics with a new PPC would also like some better gfx capabilities (not necessarily top performance but better than S3Virge or AGA) ?
If an accelerator could be made with gfx chip onboard aswell as USB(2) and some simple expansion it could eventually also be released as a standalone product. a nice small gadget to hook up to your TV, guess it would need some classic embedded in an FPGA thus making the price to high?
Just trying to find a small market outside the current Amiga owners

| @Mikey_C $580 USD?
I'm sorry, I need to go get both you and ACube committed now, on grounds of insanity now.
Not unless it's a G4 at that price.

In the Amiga market, people will take what they can get, heck look at the prices on ebay. _________________ No cause is lost if there is but one fool left to fight for it. |

I would pay around 450 euros for the SharkPPC, I can pay also the price ACube aks for their SAM but only if it gets OS4. _________________

For a PPC with a warranty that worked in a classic A1200 case, I'd pay USD $1000. The going rate for a used Blizzard/PPC these days is circa USD $950 with dozens of active bidders. There's something about firing up an A1200 desktop knowing that its just as capable as a a new PC from BestBuy -- 16 years after its launch. That is priceless!

average price of a CyberstormPPC with 060 was about 1000 EUR when still in production.
What make you think it would cost less now?

It would be awesome if someone could produce the A1200 and sold the a PPC card with it as well as a copy of Amiga OS4 in a nice bundle. I wonder how hard that would be. Where is the technology sitting these days? _________________
