This is a little show report from Pianeta Amiga, photos and videos available on this page http://lecta.altervista.org

There were 10-12 Sam440ep and Sam440-Flex running AmigaOS 4.1 Beta and a couple of AmigaOnes running AmigaOS 4.1 final. All the machines were available for the public to try them and compare their performance. Sam performed very well despite the lower clock. The AmigaOS 4.1 beta on the Sam is about at the same level of the AmigaOne version, both in functionality and stability.

There were also some minimigs on display.

Unfortunately there were no MorphOS machines to try this OS. We really hope that next year someone from the MorphOS community will attend the show.

Haiku was shown by the Haiku Italian User Group and really impressed everyone.

On the software side there were some new releases:

1 - DvPlayer was shown playing a VOB file at full screen with a very low frameskip. This version isn't yet optimized for the 440 CPU but it has support for the YUV420P Planar overlay format, increasing the speed of the playback of DVD-quality videos at nearly full frame rate. Playback of DiVX files was also very good. The OS4 Lamp animation (made by Danny Fellner) was also shown with great fun for the audience.
2 - A new improved version of WarpView was shown with full Warp3D support for zooming and rotating pictures. The most impressive thing about WarpView was the fact that also disabling the use of Warp3D the zooming (using very big pictures like 6-8 megapixel) was very fast!
3 - A new version of NetSurf was present. NetSurf is a very fast browser with a native Reaction GUI and support for CSS and many other things. This browser still lack javascript support but it look really promising.
4 - A new version of X-Net RSS reader was also presented. This new version features many new things. The most prominent one is the possibility to iconify the program opening a RSS ticker at the bottom (or top, this is user-configurable) of the screen scrolling continuosly the RSS feeds.

For the porting competition Andrea "AFX" PalmatĖ ported, during the show, the following softwares:
1 - Celestia, the well known open source planetarium, using OpenGL. This is a native version.
2 - FooBilliard, a very nice looking openGL Billiard game.
3 - OpenRedAlert, the open source version of this classic PC game.
4 - Wine: 6 bottles.... but that's another story that it's better not to tell...

A list of the expositors:
- ACube was, obviously, here selling Sam440ep, Minimigs and a number of other Amiga related things
- AmigaKit was here selling its various stuff and offering its high quality service
- Bitplane magazine with its latest issue and also selling some copies of Amiga Future and Amikit 1.5
- Haiku user Group
- Andrea "AFX" PalmatĖ
- OS4Games.it
- Ikir Sector
- Cristiano "Seyia" Cherchi showing Amithlon and representing NotizieAmiga (italian amiga newsletter)
- Myself demoing AmigaOS 4.1 on Sam440ep and AmigaOne

Special mention to the "Fiorentina Steak"

Sorry if I forgot something, feel free to add your thoughts/impressions.

Regards,

Sorry if I forgot someone/something

@mike
Well, no, the "Efika 2" is in reality only a Freescale Dev-Board:

Thanks for the info, photos and video so far. Were there any announcements? Any indications as to when the flex board will be available?

Hans

I want to know that too !? And I want to know did Acube say anything about their plans making a more powerful "high end" model in future (if there's any such plans) ?

And I also want to know any details about 1.5 revision of SAM440ep. Any clues?

Btw. Anybody with Psile case. What kind of PSU are you using with it ? I checked their website and didn't see any PSU or any chance to fit any in that case. Don't tell me you have to use an external PSU (like back then in the 80's) ?

Noel, is Auckland (New Zealand) considered remote... will be there on holiday from the 22nd of October :)

Perfect excuse to have a small Amiga gathering? Probably won't have much time to spare as I will be traveling about... a nice thought though :)
