@Rogue

No it is not VP based, not being a developer I can't say much more, Linnar will be able to tell you.

@Linnar
I know the dev kit was available for download but I guess that was a fault as I was able to download it myself.
So again I'm asking where is AA2 (apart from probably) being used in the cute Snowman creator thing.

Anyway AA2 only compiles for winblows (AFAIK) and without OS4 support I have no interest.

@linnar

I really liked what Jamie Krueger was doing for AmigaOS. I dont know if he is part of AmigaOS 4 team. Not heard much of him since working with Amiga Inc.

I hope Jamie continues his developer suite.

@amiga inc

If AmigaInc made a game maker suite then they have a chance.

No, AA2 is just a static link library that offers multimedia functions and is supposed to support various platforms ("supposed to" because the first release only contains a Windows Mobile build IIRC). The compiler provided with the SDK is GCC. More information can be found in this thread.

They probably just recycled parts from the original AA (which more or less died with Amiga Washington - according to Francis Charig, later AI incarnations never had a Elate/Intent license). Why anyone would use AA2 instead of SDL, Allegro etc. remains a mystery to me

AA is, AFAIK, still VP-based, right?

Are You joking?
AA2-lib is from the first codeline to the last codeline "in hose product" (I think).
In the h.cod I find some name for the programmer.

Yes, but in the code I find name for other OS. And I find a lot of "beta version".
I post litle of the codexample later!

I come back when I find how I download it (it was a ~'Year ago).

No. I really thought it was. At least I always had the impression that AmigaAnywhere was about code transportability, something I have never understood the necessity of given the fact that Java already does that, and with a good deal more industry standard support.

I quickly lost interest in the first AmigaAnwhere/AmigaDE/Tao Intent or whatever it was called at that time because I did not see any advantage of programming assembler other than speed, which was not something that VP excelled at, nor did it pretend to be aimed at that.

Thanks for the clarification. What happened to the code transportability?

I'll have a look, thanks

Especially considering how much extra code libraries you get for e.g. SDL. It's widely accepted, available on practically any platform, so yeah, I don't quite get it either. You gotta have something seriously good to offer to convince people to use it, especially with an open source project.

@all

Sorry, I didn't want to hijack this.. er... interesting thread

I read up on Amiga Anywhere 2 and now understand that you don't need AA2 on your machine to run an AA2 program. So it is likely that the Snowman Maker is an AA2 endeavour. Part of the reason they're selling it is to encourage people to develop using AA2, after they have seen what it is capable of doing.

Btw I had an Amiga 500, bought in 1988 or so, and the RF adaptor broke on me in about 1995, rendering the graphics in shades of green. Having used PCs since, mostly for schoolwork, the experience was NOT like Amiga. I started looking at Amiga again this year and have bought Amiga Forever 2008, and started to think that Amiga is possibly going to (boing-ball) bounce back into the computer world. I look foward to such a time if it comes. Hopefully 2009 will see new things.

Windows is not interesting, v expensive and more...

@everyone

mmmh... I don't think anything will happen, ever. Not until somebody takes Amiga away from Amiga Inc.'s grasp.

It looks more and more like a sort of pension scheme. They bought Amiga and this is enough to see them through to retirement.

I have personally seen NOTHING, absolutely ZERO coming from Amiga Inc.

I, like 90% of the people on this forum, am not interested in some kind of portable code, I don't care, like Rogue said there are better supported languages that do that.

I haven't seen a new Amiga computer coming from them, not even a case () so why should I believe them and support them.

I am interested in Amiga as an advanced, powerful, efficient multimedia machine with an elegant Amiga OS on it, not in abstract promises.

I believe in SAM and OS4.1, I believe in something I can touch and see, I believe in my hard work on the Minimig case, in my hard work in my case for the SAM.

I don't believe in someone who, more than once, has stabbed me in the back.

This is what people want, new Amigas, the continuation of OS4 development, the rest is futile smoke.

These people have lost their marbles!

@TheDaddy

I understund that!
But a smal computer/OS company must make money from somthing and
AA2 is a good think to do that. The Amiga market is very small in the moment
therfore the AI can't make money only to do somting for A-market. With AA2
they have a very mutch biger market. And when the money is going in they
can make Your dream.

To do somthing without money is a "misson impossible", it's sad but tru!

And now I must go on with my programing.... (not Amiga related, sorry)

EDIT:
@olegil
AMOS!
Yees, I have very mutch fun with Amos to ~17 year ago.
But the AA2 is a C-programming. Amos is a Basic-like programming.

The things I would have done with Amiga and its name in almost ten years!

I could list them but I have not enough time nor space!
