Thought you might be interested to see the reaction by the Pandora community (including some very strong words from the project leader himself) when AmigaAnywhere was introduced as a development platform:

First Thread
and
Second Thread

I have to admit to being heavily involved in the first thread, but I intentionally stayed clear of the second thread to give other people a chance to sling some mud!

Looks like Amiga Inc are loved everywhere they appear!

@Pleng

This really highlights the advantages of AA2 over SDL so well

AmigaOS 5, the lamented OS X killer, due out end of 2008, does not exist other than in the imagination of a CEO who has clearly lost touch with reality. Discussion of its use on Pandora, emulated or natively, is therefore irrelevant

This speech on the other forum was the absolute dumbest I have seen!
-How do you know that there develops a OS5?
-How can you write "..a CEO who has clearly lost touch with reality" if a person you do not know or know nothing about?

I call it disrespectful behavior and think that this has nothing at all with the Amiga-hobbies to do.

Humans are very strange creatures. RickAstoria only wanted to introduce possible platform/API for OpenPandora and their response was simple ideology and animosity.

Though, AA2 seems to be interesting API.

Interesting it is, but what really shocked me was the NDA/SDA and the 40% and your first born clause in the contract. This means it has no future in open source, no truly open source community driven projects will probably even consider touching it.

Imagine where we'd be if C= would have demanded 40% of your profit.
And anyway, isnt more like 5% usual (if your using the name or OS/HW parts/patents etc.)?

I have the contract to be signed on AA2 be used. I have it not in front of me right now so what I say can be a bit wrong.

- I believe part of the revenue shall Amiga Inc take note of when it is sold by Amiga Inc's website or through the channels Amiga Inc has or will have in the future.

- As I see it is free to use AA2 and distribute the results of the compilation for free without paying anything for the Amiga Inc.

- Amiga Inc themselves using open source code to AA2, which is such as a debugger.

I think people was to hard on the poor guy who just wanted to introduce them to AA which have even been demoed (IIRC) on the pandora.

While the CEO of Amiga might not have lost touch with reality he most certainly have lost touch with the only community that had a slight interest for his products.

@Troels

Your description I think is the correct one!

It shows that there is a little more thought behind the words.

Yes, it is a pity about the guy who seemed glad to find something good to bring to his group.

Speaking of Pandora reminds me of an utterance I heard on the radio last week. Politicians the world over are not perceived as the most intelligent of men, and Australian pollies are by no means the highest on that score. This pollie said (of some proposal or other):
"This (proposal) will open a whole new Pandora's box of worms, and once Pandora's out of the box, you can't get her back in."

Priceless.

This is just how Amiga (inc) is perceived outside Amiga world... Guess there is a (good) reason if it is perceived this way. No need to react this way.

Now you may reconsider the question: what's the use of the "Amiga" name today ?

@Leo

Your right, Im starting to see a pattern here now, first the Evo gets shot down by linuxgames.com then it gets picked apart by the pandora people . And according to this post all projects are on hold and mcewen fired himself?

The only thing i expect evo to bring to the table in the end is linux games on cd's for X distros btw.

gee i lost my trail of thought.

"AmigaOS 5 will be released in Q4 of 2008 and will be better than OSX"

That statement is not necessarily made because he lost touch with reality.

AFAIK OS5 was to be built from OS4.x and while it can be discussed whether it would be better than OSX it might from an amigans perspective (not technically).

If Amiga inc had the sourcecode of OS4 and a substantial amount of money and developers (the latter they were AFAIK was promised by investors) they could have taken OS4 to another level.
Personally I don't think Amiga could do it but it might not be 100% unrealistic. Guess we will never know and I am also happy that is is Hyperion running the show now.
