I don´t share your love for Pentium II class computers...

Oh maybe you didn't knoo, I hate x86 CPUs So if you have opposite feeling than me, you must be a real Intel fanboy.

The byte ordering sucks,
> it was always a mess for developers like me.

Segmenting sucks,
-> thanks to god it is not needed in 386 mode.

The limited orthogonally sucks,
-> you can use most commands only with special registers

The limited register set sucks,
-> the 68000 register set is still beyond today’s x86 AMD-64 register set.

The FPU implementation sucks,
-> the call of FPU commands and arguments needed to be passed over the stack

The x86 is based on a 70ies 8 bit architecture that was outperformed by much cheaper and more simplified CPUs like the 6502. Intel implemented some clumsy expansions to it, because they needed an interim product with 16 Bit to compete with Zilogs8000 . IBM selects this CPU, because it could be a solution for a product no one wanted to be a success. and the expansions to 32Bit where half hearted, just enough to get something like linear addressing other CPUs had since years.

I don't know anyone who knows about this architecture and loves it !

But most people used to buy things that are available, cheap and powerful. There are not much chances to get something else with an OS that supports Office Software, Browsers, programming and programming tools ..

And for people who would like to use the PPC with an AmigaOS, how are the chances ?
They are bad, don't let us talk about they overpriced but underpowered Sam, just take a look to the remaining Macs, the fact some have a powerful PPC is useless, as long as there is no Amiga like OS to use them.

That's a pitty, AOS4 needs application and games, an OS without applications is useless.

My prediction: a port of the GC/Wii emulator with a bluetooth stack that allows you to use Wii Remotes...even as mice!

Well, just the bluetooth stack gets us 98% there on the Wii Remote useage...

No, you guys got it all wrong. I've done some digging and hacking and found a bit of information...so I think Hyperion will start producing and distributing enabling technologies and applications for wired and wireless devices. Hyperion's technology solutions may include 0s4 for a wide variety of computer devices and platforms.

What do you guys think? :)

That's all I am going to say. Oh, yes, let me add one more thing: Don't believe anybody. They're all just speculating. Nobody outside the dev team knows anything.

hehe.. that is so true.

The reason IBM choose this processor lies in the fact that IBm already *DID* use the architecture in their socalled terminal concentrators; devices to connect large numbers of terminals to their mainframes, whilst relieving that (very expensive!) mainframe from from such simple tasks like terminal handling. In fact for a long time (up until today?) PC's had 15 harware interupts: on the terminal concentrators one could hook up to 15 terminals...
At the time the IBM engineers wanted to create something really new, based upon Motorola's 68k architecture, just like Amiga, Apple and Atari had done. The accountants, on the other hand, wanted something really cheap as the hype of personal computing would last no longer then 3 or 4 years in their wildest guesses. And IBM had a deal with Intel to manufacture their own processors based upon Intel's designs.
The rest is history.

The best news of all would be if it was a port of AmigaOS4.x to x86.
But it could be an office suite or a web browser also.

Rogue it's fine you wont tell what its about, but at the very least could you tell us if it has anything to do with OS4 or the Amiga brand??

You cant treat us like this.....we hate this uncertain state of mind....been there for many many years, and are tired of it. We need just a tiny tiny bit of hope that its amiga related....so please is it OS4/amiga or something totally not OS4/amiga.???

That's the least you and hyperion could say without spilling any beans!

Thank you

Huh? Massimo added drop shadows to the windows, that has nothing to do with any ambitious projects. It's eye candy.

No one of you is right.

No one...

You'll hear it when it is ready to be announced. Until then, believe whatever you want.

Uuummmhh!!!! So as we cannot know what is at least now we know what is not:

-It´s not a netbook
-It´s not a Cell based solution
-It´s not putting AOS4 into the "cloud"
-It´s not a enhaced eye candy Workbench
-It´s not a Mac port
-It´s not a x86 port
-It´s not a new game for Amiga

Well, we reduce the fence

@Hondo

Well without directly saying it Rogue heavily implied it is Amiga related.

Rogue said:

"The focus is on AmigaOS 4 right now."

and

"Nobody outside the dev team knows anything."

So you have a "focus" on Amiga OS4, and only the "dev team" knows anything about it. Well, the "dev team" are the ones developing Amiga OS4...so...

My personal speculation is:

Amiga OS 5 (not sure what platform...)

or

Amiga OS 4.x for x86.

My reasoning against an x86 port would be Hyperion's bias against x86 based on historical comments and the fact it may put ACube out of business.

IIRC, Frieden bros have always wanted to develop cool/great games. Their OWN, not just ported games.

Perhaps it is a great game for AOS4. Most likely not, though.
