Hey! I've caught up with the end of the thread! Have you guys all gone to bed or something?

We are in all time zones, on all continents. There is never a time when all of us are in bed. There is always someone, somewhere thinking about Amiga. These days, there is always someone wondering, "What is X?"

It would seem that a hardware with software offering is (will be) on the table. I'm hoping it's affordable new hardware with updated OS (ie memory protection / SMP etc).

I don't want to ask too much though

I definitely think the 'X' is important. Not just a product name. I'd like to know which font was used. It's different.

Think there's about a 700 post limit, may not have a choice but to split it at some point. At the current rate, tomorrow.

I'm sure those early armchair lawyer threads went on over a thousand posts, although it seemed like a million..

@Boot_WB

Just looked up one of the PS3 threads, they split at just over 1000 posts.

I am changing my mind a bit on the hardware partner. Freescale is a bit flaky and can't seem to make up their mind at what they want to be good at.

It makes more sense for it to be IBM. Power/cell is their game. The clues point that way as TheMaskedMuchacho has mentioned earlier.

It would definitely be newsworthy to bring out hardware more powerful than a PS3. It would be easy once the PowerXcell-8i was adopted. PS3 only comes with 256MB XDR RAM. Video chip 7800-ish 2006 Nvidia series. Not too tough to beat in 2010.

The one nice carrot is you could even port games to Amiga from PS3 or Xbox! Given enough API support, of course. Minor detail.

Long threads messes the forum up.

Around 1000 post or so, so a bit more left

Yep, 1000 is a good number to remember, and it is around 1000 posts the layout start to mess up.

Yes, I agree !It fits in with the statement that 'some might not like it, but most of us will be amazed' or something stated by one of the friedens.Also it makes sense, for hyperion to start making money and getting OS4 out into the world.Also they said the embedded world would be a market.

Apparently, to play this game thoroughly you must read all the websites to see what has been eliminated as a possibility.

@gregthecanuck

Hmm. Pretty ambitious.

Someone mentioned earlier the A-Eon Directors put in ¤75500. Would it be possible to make a prototype matching your ideas for just ¤75500?

And what would the cost to the end user be? PS3s have just (IMHO) hit the affordable price level and their hardware is how old now? A new design with high end hardware would be fairly expensive. They'd need to get heaps more customers than exist in the Amiga community. That's an expensive spend for someone not in the Amiga camp.

I do like the idea of more power, but I think they have to invest wisely at this stage. Multi-core, 64-bit capable CPUs with large memory support would be a decent goal. Portable would also be a reasonable goal. Perhaps the 2 combined. Something entry level would be decent also. It'd get them market share and possible funds for making a 'power' setup.

I hope it's affordable hardware, as many others do. This will allow more people to get into the market, including those interested in developing for AOS, like me.

How about that, eh?

If enough of the involved parties were able to provide the labour/time at zero cost I believe it is certainly possible.

There is enough integrated silicon out there now that I don't think the hardware design is going to be as formidable a problem as it would have been 5 years ago. In addition, IBM could give them a 'deal' on the CPUs to help get the volumes up. No one knows what goes on behind closed doors. (name that tune)

Cheers!

Replying to myself. How sad.

The more I think about it, the more evil the plan to use the cell. You could get ports from PS3, XBOX and even Wii (shudder). The key to all of this is providing enough software support. There are ex-Amiga developers supporting these platforms. Who knows, perhaps there are ports in the works already. That would be cool. Something like the new Super Stardust HD would demo well. Info

Given the opportunity, do you think ex-Amiga developers would support Amiga again? No crappy royalties to pay is a good incentive. No excuses about lame hardware.

Ignore me if someone already pointed this out.. thread is moving too fast!

Anyway, if you mouse over the 'i' in "have you figured it out yet", it replies:

"Oh, don't look there."

The dot over the 'i' is a picture of a motherboard. I think someone mentioned that already.

Oh man, I leave for a few hours and it looks like there's a new motherboard on the works? This is looking pretty ambitious indeed! Can't wait for tomorrow's piece of the puzzle
