Since Amiga OS 4.1 Update 1 came out, I've really been noticing the limitations of my old uA1. I've tried Blender a couple of times, but I run out of video ram and the computer crashes. I'd like to use some of the Update's cool features, but my micro is too slow. It's like trying to run Windows 7 on anything less than a 2-GHz CPU and tons of memory. So I'm going to save up and buy an X1000 when it comes out in a year or two -- or whenever. I doubt it will cost over $1500. Then I'll sell my micro. I wonder what a uA1 with case and hard drive will be worth then, or what it's worth now?

I feel sorry for all you sam owners that has gfx memory limits. I think its a bad thing from the start to have builtin gfx chip with so low on gfx memory. SamFlex is cool and it should have been like that in the start so that the user could use gfx cards.

Have you actually used Windows 7 or are you just making arbitrary specs that you think it won't work on?

I'm running Win7 on a Celeron 1.5Ghz with 1Gb Ram and it works very well - better than XP did, even.

µ are alright, but you have to turn off the compositing effects, and run in 16bit graphics. The CPU powers fines, it's just the 32MB of Graphics Ram the poor things got...

Yep Windows 7 is said to run pretty good on very slow computers, but it does takes a lot of disk space though.

I run WB in 16 bit mode with compositing off. Try starting blender with the -W & -G option (bldyn -W -G). This will get the radeon 7000 gfx initialized right. You can modify the blender file to start with this setting.

I kept my A4000T & I'll most likely keep this micro as well, even if I buy the X1000. If I can get my head around blender, I could model on the micro & render on the X1000.

Yea I'll give you that. I 'only' have a 60Gb hard drive and I'm already feeling the squeeze after installing Win 7, MS Office, GIMP and not much else.

Yes, I have Windows 7. It's running on a 2.13 GHz dual-core CPU. Sorry, I just picked the 2-GHz figure out of the air. but the point is valid. I'm putting Blender on hold for a while. It has a very high learning curve -- higher than Lightwave 9. I can't make much sense of it yet.

Maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised and the X1000 will come out faster than is usual.

The Micro supports the radeon 7000.

But another question I don't see being asked much...what OS will the X1000 run?
So far the only semi-official post I've seen on this is "what do you think"?
Before I ditched any model A1, that's something worth thinking about, no?

No, it locks up if you try to use an extra graphics card. I have heard that someone managed to get it working by disabling USB (and possibly a few other things), but that's not much of a solution.

Hey kicko, blender seems to run fine here, but I suppose with onboard graphics I am limited to internet and blender and musik only, as if I open up another graphics program I would probably run out of Video Memory I believe. (havent tested that yet)

Seeing as it's an AmigaOne X1000, I think that it's pretty safe to say that it will be running Amiga OS. I expect that all will be revealed over the coming months.
