Hey guys, need help.

I wanted again to try Blenderbut I have the following error from Elf Library when launching it: missing shared objects missing: libbz2.so.1.0 and libbffmpeg.so

When I can purchase the libbz2.so.1.0 library?

The thing strange is that libbffmpeg.so is present in my sobjs folder

@kyle

Is it perhaps this one:

blender benchmark is not always the same in the same hardware. 9 seconds of difference could be normal

That lib seems to be missing from the FE install, but is in the 4.1 update 6 install. If you still have UD6 backed up, you just need to copy that lib over to sys:SObJs.

@klx300r

I'm using beta but that shouldn't make much difference.

I did the test after booting to a 'clean' workbench (press shift while booting to disable wbstartup), It's my normal practice when using cpu heavy programs.

ah ok I figured as much as I used to be a beta tester myself prior to the release of the X1000 so I can confirm that yes indeed all kinds of benchmark testing were different between my beta and official releases

anyhow can you please run the benchmark on your non beta partition please just to compare Boing Balls to Boing Balls

@kyle

libbz2.so is part of the standard OS install but the links to the other versions weren't created in the FE: version.

libbffmepg.so fails because it's the comonent that need libbz2.so

@klx300r

You realise that the changes I made to blender in version 5 and 6 were to the video editing part (replaceing libffmepg with a version 3.0 based version) if you were bench marking the change in speed of editing a video and testing which new codecs worked and whch didn't, you might be doing somthing worth while, but endless benchmarking of the same dull benchmark test is just so unproductive and meaningless.

And worying about 9 seconds in a 400 second render is just plain ... well it's hard to describe without risking a abuse report!

Please use blender to

Edit a video
Render your favourite spaceship model
Create a model of your own
Make an animated movie
Create assets for a 3D/2d game.
edit python scruipts in the python orientated editor
...
...
...

@broadblues

yes Andy I'm aware of the changes you've made and that's why I sent you another donation so thanks again!

But the title of my thread 'kind of' gives a hint of what this thread is about before even opening it I like to see benchmarks of all kinds for as long as any computing device has been around and I NEVER WORRY (or sing the blues) lol when I'm messing with my miggies eh ..i do stuff because I enjoy it much like some people like singing the blues I suppose

still under NDA. i don't think any non-beta customers have yet to take possession of any cyrus boards.

@broadblues

Shouldn't you have linked to libbz2.so instead which then would have 'autolinkend' to the latest availabe libbz2.so version which isnt libbz2.so.1 but something else ?

Smoking Guns has the same 'feature' btw :)

@klx300r

The x5000 hasn't been made available yet AFAIK.

There are some benchmarks and performance discussions over at morph.zone in various threads if you're interested. Conclusion you can draw is that it's about on par with the rest of the PPC's (worth mentioning) that we have been using. Some relative upsides, some relative downsides. But overall the same 2005 level performance (the peak of PPC).

In the context of this thread, stuff like 3D rendering and multimedia are examples of applications that will pay the penalty of a relatively weak FPU and completely missing Altivec.

@TRIPOS

thanks for the info over at morph.zone. I'm sure new X5000 users will pop up here soon once non-beta testers receive their new X5000

Doesn't work like that. shared object based libraries are not version compatable, if you link againt version 1 of a library you can not substitute version 2 as a major version bump means a change in API.

However I do not explictly link to any version.

My linker script looks like

g++ -use-dynld -Wl,-Map=../obj/amigaos-ppc/ld.map -o ../obj/amigaos-ppc/bin/bldyn ../obj/amigaos-ppc/buildinfo.o ../obj/amigaos-ppc/creator/*.o \
-L ../obj/amigaos-ppc/bin/ \
[snip]
huge number of object file
[/snip]
-lbffmpeg -lpthread -lz -lbz2 -lexpat -lfreetype -ljpeg -lpng -ldl -lSDL \
-lIlmImf -lHalf -lIlmThread -lIex -lImath -lopenal -lalut -lintl\
-lpython25 -lGL

and the libbffmpeg.a link looks like

gcc -shared -Wl,--no-undefined -o /Programing/projects/blender-svn/blender/obj/amigaos-ppc/bin/libbffmpeg.so \
[snip]
huge number of object file
[/snip]
-lpthread -lz -lauto -lbz2

so as you see I do not explictly set the version to link to

Oh and itr worth noting that thelinks are the other way round

the real file is libbz2.so.1.0.4
the links are
libbz2.so.1.0
and
libz2.so
