@TheAMIgaOne

What is the exact name of the OS4Depot tunenet patch?

I haven't been able to locate it.

My mplayer solution for BBS World Service up and quit a little over a week ago. I can still get 3 radio stations that I care about, but decided to try out the tunenet patch, too.

playlist.lha

The playlist site isn't working at the moment, TheAMIgaOne is working on it, & we wait until he's done.

For those of us wet behind the ears with Amiga OS, can you explain more step for step what this means in your install info?

"Just unzip to ram and then execute the TuneNetPatcherOS4 command, it will the
ask for a temporary assign for TUNENET: once assigned it will update and patch
the exe."

The unzip to RAM I can handle but the "execute the TuneNetPatcherOS4 command. What and how do I do that. Sorry but I am new to this.

Same goes for the temporary assign for TUNENET:. I do not know what that means.

Sorry again but this does not make sense to me.

Hey, tj! Execute the command means double-click the icon. I'm away from my Amiga for a couple of days, so if you don't see an icon use "show all files" in the Workbench menus. If I recall correctly, the patch program will tell you TUNENET: is not defined by an AmigaOS "assign," so it will give you a chance to make a temporary assign. At this point you pick the drawer (directory) where Tunenet is located, and then the patch will do its thing.

At least that's the way I remember it from a couple of weeks ago. Have fun!

Ah, cool, that sounds easy.

I guess my mind was thinking command meant, type something in terminal.

No worries. Our favorite OS gets so few new users that those of use who have been held captive by its spells since ages past take too much for granted when it comes to this stuff sometimes.

Great. Found BBC right away and it works. Thank you.

Maaan! I had a really old version of TuneNet.
After only the usual hunt on OS4Depot I got the only TuneNet that was there and stuck it in a new, easy to find place.
Re-double clicking the script did not prompt for a replacement TuneNet assign. It assumes that if I have one, then it is THE one. But **no**, I abandoned the rotted place that was for the not functioning TuneNet.

Unlike TJ I cannot claim to be new to this stuff, so I, huff, went the CLI and "ASSIGN TuneNet: Work1:Apps/TuneNet/", then double-clicked your icon for the 3rd time this evening.

It be fun.

@ggw

I'm sorta guessing the patch worked for you.

In terms of version it only patches 3 versions

V0.92.44
V0.92.56
V0.92.58

anything older it will ignore, unless I update the patcher, so far no-ones found another version it doesnt work with... yet :)

PS normally when the assign doesnt exist Workbench will bring up a requester to allow you to assign the location if need

Sorry if I threw too many things out there. WHEN that patch didn't work on the TuneNet I had (stored at Work1:Apps/FailingApps/TuneNet/) then I checked its version. It was old. I downloaded the one at OS4Depot into
Work1:Apps/Tunenet/
When the patch STILL did not work I reasoned that since I did not get the Assign/Mount requester, it must be because TUNENET: was existing. So I used the CLI to replace the TUNENET: assign with one pointing to Work1:Apps/Tunenet.
Then I ran the patch for the 3rd time... and it worked.
Excitedly I ran Work1:Apps/TuneNet/TuneNet, dragged the scan gadget out to 1000, hit scan, and just a moment later, having clicked on [genre], there was BBS in the news section. Double clicked that. Eureka! Good ol' British accented news..... and I retired for the night.

If I stay happy with it for a week, I find some project of yours to donate to.
