@NutsAboutAmiga

you have to try real app to see how memory can help you
any apps that stress cpu and memory like an encoding video

i remember some (few) software to encoding video 68k and PowerPC: Wildfire.
ok, it's very old, but for some test could be interesting

@vox
maybe you have right, I had forgotten that the X1000 doesn't have the agp port

I am sorry guys GLQuake doesn‚t work on X1000 with RadeonHD.

sure it doesnt, since radeonhd has no support for 3d hardware acceleration under os4.

Will try with Warp3D software library later.

you may try, but it absolutely defeats the idea to showcase the abilities of x1k, wazp3d is a great software but it has its limits. it enables machines without 3d acceleration like most genuine amigas or winuae to run warp3d apps albeit very slow in comparison, except it has a hardware accelerated backend as apparently on aros. under uae it may not be very noticeable, but on genuine amiga and on x1k it certainly will be. all in all it wouldnt be a fair benchmark.

Please no jokes. I had Radeon 7000 and Radeon 9200SE years ago,
I prefer to wait for RadeonHD 3D driver.

thats right. i recall there is even a problem with x1k pci slots that would make 3d hardware accelerated cards like radeon 9xxx-92xx series perform slower that probably even in sams. the reason might be afair 33 vs 66mhz pci slots and x1k lacking dma on pci bus (sam driver has this apparently implemented). so best wait with your benchmarks. honestly.

I fully understand any game running via software 3D render like wazp3d
degrade X1000 CPU even further producing exteremely unfair test
(overabusing CPU and not using GPU at all)

I am sad that there is no DMA on X1000 PCI slots, but that is why
it has PCI-E x1 and 2xPCI-Ex8 (1xPCI-E x16) slots.

One X1000 user put an Pcie-->Pci adaptor on the miniPce and there put a radeon 9250 128bit Pci and everything run great 8)

Dont use Wazp it only make cpu over working , wazp are good only with small games , like hurrican or frogatto or for use Blender... but with 1/10 of the real performances

And dont belive in trolls on my P4 2.4ghz i have in software rendering 320x240 138fps and in gl with radeon 9200 AGP 256mb only 107 fps

@Seiya

You can run games and benchmarks in emulators this will test the system and the emulator.
Emulators depend on fast memory and CPU.
Video playback is also good benchmark.
MP3 decoding.
How fast you decompress archives.
How fast you can encrypt or decrypt something.

@NutsAboutAmiga

i tried on my x86 machines a dostest with dosbox set to 20000 cycles

Drystone (DRY2OD.EXE) on Intel E8500 (default clock)

52545

Drystone (DRY2OD.EXE) on Intel i7 2600 (default clock)

52459

----------------

test 2 with max cycles

drystone with Intel E8500

607211

drystone with intel i7 2600

817891

you can find this test here

@Seiya

... sorry and you a professional benchmark maker like make comparison with DosBox on multi-platforms and with different os?
emm
Just a fast refresh
DosBox use sdl
first need to know what version of sdl you are using
second need to know what kind of render you are using on dosbox?
overlay? Gl? or software?
Sdl on amigaos are incomplete and buggy if you are here, for sure you know this.

Dosbox you can compare only on
Win Vs Win Machine
Linix vs Linux Machine
Mac Vs Mac Machine
Mos Vs Mos Machine
Aos Vs Aos Machine

and so and so and so....

@tlosm

Don't need to compare x86 vs PowerPC.

you can download "dostest" and try with your machine with PowerPC.
so you can compare Sam460 with Sam440 or with X1000.
you can compare MacMini vs Pegasos 2 with Dosbox

ok just for info is better for do this test on X1000 with linux because linux is 64bit on the x1000 on Aos the machine run at 32bit (1cpu)..

you mean 64bit os is one that runs on two 32bit cpus?

@tlosm

dosbox not require 64bit OS and don't use smp..so you can use where you want.

so you could compare X1000 1,8 Ghz vs PowerBook 1,67 Ghz

of course you test drystone or whetstone.
Better test is compare very complex games with many animation
in 640x480 or more.

while.. seriously. i think the speedup of an 64bit os against 32 version may not be significant if any. i have once compared lightwave under 32 and 64bit winxp and the on 64bit it was a little slower. however on x1k linux will sure give better results and may be possibly rather treated as an objective hardware benchmark, just because os4 doesnt support half of the system.

@wawa

no wawa it is a 64bit os means an os that handles large amounts of random access memory
plus the x1000 cpu is a 64bit

and the AmigaOS 4 like the Other AmigaOS like sistems are 32bit and Single core...
Means the x1000 under os4 is near 1/3 of speed compared wiht linux

i have the totally opposite performaces on my 2xP4 64bit
Win 7 is more performant in the 64bit version compared with 32bit

Pentium MMX 250 MHz performance. Very good for PowerPC CPU.

Already done. (post 78)

Edit2: As you should know - your post is 79.

With CPU cycles max DosBox gives strange results on some machines (460EX, DosBox 68k), I can´t say it is unreliable, but one must be careful when comparing results.

this is Virtual PC non dosbox ,Connectix make great optimization on the cpu emulated side
with great dynamic cpu translating function.

we had in past... and was great ... but it is no more upgraded it was PC Task ..
if i have time i will try to make this test on it under petunia ... on 060 66mhz was fast

i forgot softwindows 95 was much much more fast of VirtualPC ... i will try to make it run
