We're coming up on a year since the original poll was started.
http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=30916&forum=33&68

Looks like the voting ended with 61 Yes and 116 No votes.

I'm curious if any have changed their minds almost a year later, hence the new poll.

From what I understand this turned out to exactly as I was warning about. People have since paid $1000s of dollars and no boards shipped. Is that still currently the case?

@AmigaHeretic

You're walking a very thin line here, you know that. One more trolling ban and you're off this site for good. No way back. Keep that in mind with every post you make from now on. You're at strike three on the trolling scale, and you're not contributing in a positive way.

@AmigaHeretic

Its not Elite 4, Duke Forever ... yet.

There is some communication and presentation once a year.
Beta testing should be ongoing now?

After Hyperion realises OS 4.1 Classic they will focus on X1000 version.

So sometime 2011. Bad case of PR, but same plagued almost all Amiga
products after Commodore vanished (Commodore US might be legal, but is not
real continuation). EP460 was tested for couple years, delayed (was also to be about X1000 realise, but made it before), SAM EP440 was presented as Samantha long time ago ...

X1000 isn't Vaporware, because you can touch it and play with it around on several meetings in the past!

@fingus

Dunno, DukeNukem4ever has a new trailer an even a release date (which I'd say is about the same level as showing preproduction HW-samples).

Not sure if I'd removed the vapor-sticker from it allready.

@AmigaHeretic

AW Post #33 part of a discussion of what constitutes vaporware hardware

The time frame informally agreed upon was 2 years, not one.
And that's just an understanding from those who responded in one particular thread.

If there were any issues you would see this forum and all other Amiga forums explode with activity.

@AmigaHeretic

You know for a guy who owns an Amiga 3000, I oughta have more respect, because that's truely an amiga fan who owns such a computer. But the way you treat this X1000 project, it's almost like you want it to fail....where did that A3000 owners love for special computers go ?? - did it suddenly end because some keypeople were unpolite in one of the worlds hardest forums?? - No matter what you think of the dudes making this project happen, you could at least have the dignity to leave the products alone. Just do it for the sake of the amiga!

Go for the man, not the project - we need this X1000 thing man!

I'm not saying it doesn't exist. I have seen it. I asked back then and asking again a year later if it is (as the poll says by Wikipedia's defention) vaporware.

"Vaporware describes products, usually computer hardware or software, not released on the date announced by their developer, or announced months or years before their release. "

"Vaporware" was coined by a Microsoft engineer in 1982 to describe the company's Xenix operating system, and first published by computer expert Esther Dyson in 1983. It became popular among writers in the industry as a way to describe products they felt took too long to be released. "

I think, as someone brought up, Duke Nukem is a excellent example of Vaporware in the extreme. It missed release date after release date, after release date.

However, plenty of people have played beta versions of Duke Nukem, there have been many videos released throughout the years. I don't think there was ever a question that Duke Nukem Forever existed, it was the fact that it was continually never released.

The AmigaOS 4.1 CD:s will be shipped to ACube in a week from now!
The Sam460ex motherboard has been ready for delivery for months, but Acube have had to wait for Hyperion to finish the Sam460ex version (of OS 4.1)...

Porting AmigaOS 4.1 to X1000 is a much bigger task, so therefore you shouldn't be so eager to call it vaporware!

Good grief. Is that accurate?

Hardware ready to ship, all chip/board documentation available and supplied (pre-, during- and post- design/production), and a delay between hardware/software readiness of months? That's very hard to understand in ANY market. I know it's a weird monopoly situation here, but... MONTHS??!

That can't be right, surely.

@Amigaheretic

Despite Wikipedia's entry on Vaporware, we all know the connotations of calling something vaporware in Amiga-land.

@AmigaHeretic

that definition means that when it was announced in Jan 2010, the next day it was vaporware as it wasnt released yet.

Quote:

It is generally used to describe a hardware or software product that has been announced by its developer, but that has not yet been released

also in the article..

Quote:

Using the word usually implies a negative opinion of the product or its developer by the writer

@Boot_WB

betatesters cant test it without the boards, now they have the boards it can be betatested, and that takes a finite amount of time. same situation as the sam440.

@thread

Regarding post #12, there is no announcement currently on Acube's site, nor on Amigakit's site concerning product shipment.
I therefore would not rush to judgment about what the post indicates.

No so sure samo79. I think I want a the X1000 board, but I think the people are the pay already take away the money but no board? Interesting sure for the time. Why not board shipping? Seem strange in Japan to pay but not get the board and still be happy for the situation, no?
