Actually, developing simple application should be quite easy. One could use Dropbox's RESTful API to get some basic functionality:

So dropbox stores the files on the devices they were saved on and also send the file to dropbox server so I can read it on every device I have dropbox installed?

Yep, or you can also login to dropbox through the web and download any file you need from there to any other computer that doesn't have dropbox installed.

I think nothing prevents coding a client for Amiga, but I'd like more an option to run similar system on your own server. Speed (LAN) and storage space could be much better and security would be in your own hands, which also would make possible to use simplier protocols...

Well, I wish I had something like that, too, but there's nothing as good. Dropbox uses LAN to sync your computer, tho. Just drop file into Dropbo folder, let it be synced, and all other computers on your network will copy it from you.

And ? Is there already something in the works ?

I just installed dropbox on my windowspc and my androidphone. I don't have to search for my phone anymore that I always seem to have misplaced somewhere in the house when I want to get to the pictures I took with the camera.

Would be nice to have on the Amiga, I see this site http://amigabox.benjiworld.com/

But I think it does have not enough information concerning ongoing development to make a donation?

Hey, im the AmigaDropBox(aka Nephele) developer, for a long while I was stuck on multiple windows in reaction. Thou finally gone past that. I've researched more on File notifications to suit my needs with help from the hyperion forums.

Recently i've done little serious amiga programming due to life financial struggles. But there has been progress in the last couple of weeks. The biggest part of the project will be the synchronisation of the files, alot can go wrong If its not done properly and Dropbox themselves prefer developers to stay away from custom implementations and expect to rely on their own libraries (of course not applicable for AmigaOS)

I should be starting a stable job next week so my income should get stabilized and then I can start to reserve a set amount of hours per week to work on my stuff.

@TheAMIgaOne

I appreciate all the work you've done on bringing Dropbox to the Amiga. I love Dropbox and use it all the time. While automatic synchronization would be great, if it's easier (and would mean AmigaDropbox would come out sooner) I'd be happy with just something like a Docky button to manually synchronize the files. That way I could turn on my Amiga, click "synchronize", edit my files, and then when I'm done, click "synchronize" once more before turning off my machine. It may not be as nice as automatic synchronization but it would be a heck of a lot more convenient than logging into the Dropbox website and manually downloading and uploading the files I want.

There are some, perhaps more private, alternatives https://prism-break.org/

Can't be bothered with the NSA, they now see me on a picture holding a beer wearing sunglasses... if they want to waste their resources on that, good for them.

I don't think there is a way on internet to achieve complete privacy unless you stay away from a computer and start using pen, paper and stamps again.

So back to dropbox for amiga
. Good to see that it is still alive !

I'm using Gmail and Skype on daily basis so I know what you mean, but it's also a matter of principle for me. If you open Dropbox main page, they lie to you with a straight face (about privacy). It's disgusting.

There is a box.com filesystem client that is available to betatesters:

@KimmoK

DropBox on AmigaOS will not easily work as it does on Windows or Linux, the problem is File Notification on Amiga is primitive.

There are 3 modes.

Callback hook, it work by the programer providing a retinue and hook message.
The problem whit this is that it does not support notifications about changes on directories nor files in sub-folders.

Then you have Signal mode, it notifies about any changes inside a directory or a file, that includes sub directories, but you do not know what file or directory that was changed.

And Then you have the message ports, and this API can provide custom messages, that you have predefined, but does not give you any additional information, like filename and path of file that was changed.

Back to the CallBack hook, and messages that it supports.
And there are basically 3 types of messages, deleted, changed or created.
What is not supported is Rename / new directories.

Not supporting rename is issue because, you have to assume that files are new instead of existing, so the files will need to be uploaded, when you really just want to say they where renamed.

Other options will require a lot more work then other operating systems.

Like writing a file-handler or make lots ugly OS patches to take control of DOS.library.

I'm I reading this, so you need to enter a code every time you use the Boxfs?
Its says 30 seconds in web page, I guess this the time you have to enter the code.

Only the first time you mount the filesystem and there is even a nice requester for it with a clickable link to open the code webpage in your configured default browser:

very cool as I've migrated to Box for my work files and I'm very happy with it.

Very nice!
Would love to see Google Drive/MS Skydrive filesystem clients come to fruition (I've just recently started using Skydrive with MS Office Web Apps via Odyssey).
