I just expressed an opinion but got a picture of antidepressants to combat epilepsy which someone finds "hilarious" so I replied in a civil and educated manner, that's all.

| Something interesting for those...erm...interested, I am
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Emzz0lbr8uQ&feature=player_embedded
and from the forum:
So far, Win7 installs smoothly. Windows Update picks up the video driver, at first pass leaves some unknown devices (nic, and something else)?
and
Win 7 will miss the WLAN driver. Fortunately Barry helped me with this and got me a link to a driver for a machine that uses the same device. It is an Azurewave AW-NB047H, and the driver files can be downloaded from: http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=Eee+PC+VX6&p=20&s=1
and
Hm. Can't seem to get Win7 to put audio out through the Line Out RCA in back. It recognizes and loads drivers for the SPIF out, however... I think it needs a driver tweak or something...
So there is support after all, the guy taking the videos bought the Ultimate version ($895) but by his own admission it's just a modern computer inside a C64 shell which gets hot after two hours of doing nothing, a blu-ray drive that doesn't open properly and with a fan which is not very quiet.
Why put Windows on when CUSA supports Linux?! Anyway...it looks like it does work. I am happy for Barry and his effort.

He said his only problem was the Blu-Ray drive and it was a minor one, and he was overall pleased with the unit.

That are those "silent" tactics in spitting onto everything that comes from CUSA.

If you read my above post again and listen carefully to what the guy says it goes along these lines:
bought the Ultimate version ($895)...it's just a modern computer inside a C64 shell which gets hot after two hours of doing nothing, a blu-ray drive that doesn't open properly and with a fan which is not very quiet.
I am just reporting what he said, now if you have a problem with that I don't know what to say.
I also added: "it looks like it does work. I am happy for Barry and his effort" so what else do you want?

Wait.. what? You're disappointed? I'm shocked! I thought for sure you of all people would love this computer. You seemed so excited about it earlier.
Sorry for the sarcasm. I'm actually impressed that TheDaddy is as calm as he is about it. Maybe he's coming around. I'll order one for you. |

A bit.
>>I thought for sure you of all people would love this computer.
I love the Commodore 64.
>>I'm actually impressed that TheDaddy is as calm as he is about it.
I am surprised as well.
The thing that some CUSA minions fail to understand is that I am not against CUSA nor the C64x per se, I have explained this before. I am not an OS4/AROS/MOS zealot but I don't accept lies, presenting things that are the exact opposite of what they really are, bad behaviour, unfounded attacks to the honest, hard work of others.
The above minions mix things up to make me look like a troll (they love this word) but the rest are cleaver to know how things stand.
Look at the results now, no more lies (I hope), no more verbal attacks (I hope), no more dodgy photos, and although there is the odd comment/spam now and then it's not as bad as it used to be.
>>Maybe he's coming around. I'll order one for you.
I'd love one even though it's not specced to my taste. And I'd have bought one but I am afraid it's out of my reach financially.
If Barry is listening please send me one, a signed one like the one you sent to that guy for his birthday. _________________ www.loriano.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk |

I agree with you about the expense... they are just a bit too expensive for what they are. I don't know if I will be able to resist an A500 or A1200 case though. If they release a remake of one of those that can fit a modern motherboard... I'll probably cave in and buy one. I wish they would make a retro mouse for these things. I would love to see the old Amiga mouse but optical and with a wheel button.
The other problem with all these computers is space. Where the hell do people put these things. I have limited desk space and the computers I use are not for "fun". I have to make a living with these things. |

| Looking at the vid, I think the product looks fantastic. The price is high but not super absurd, considering it's a conversation piece and an ornament (for retro fans) as much as a computer.
I was the first to shriek with laughter at Barry's first website and "rebranding" of the Cybernet ZPC. But I'm impressed by this.
If C=USA went on to get a quality (preferably non-Gnome) Commodore-branded distro of Linux together, and did more retro-style machines to sell with it pre-installed, that's actually something that I would sincerely find quite exciting. Apart from homebrew stuff, there's nothing like the C64x in the hardware market. And no-one's grabbed the bull by the horns to base a strongly branded hardware/ software combo around a Linux distro yet.
But I won't be buying 'cos I've been alienated by the behaviour of people involved with C=USA
That's the honest truth of it. Sorry C=USA fans. _________________ My new blog |

Apple OSX
If C=USA move forward with an Amiga brand it might get scary for OS4 :^( with the right OS. That would be OS5 ?
Never was a big fan of C64, I had one but dumped it for A1000 :^) I'd buy a small pizza box style with keyboard garage :^) and the right specs at least to run Windows. Without modern apps any Amiga OS is useless to me :^( But will always hold a special place in my heart cause of killer apps like Dpaint and Sculpt 3D, ADPro, Video Toaster/LW, etc.
Timberwolf might help :^)

| My mate's C64x arrived yesterday (one of the first in Australia?).
I went over to have a look, out of morbid curiosity I came away very impressed and might even buy one myself. Very well made, with a great-feeling keyboard.
The box it comes in also looks excellent!
I was a little sceptical that these things would ever get made, but there ya go - they (CUSA) put their money where their mouth is and came up with the goods...
The only real physical aspect I didn't like was the black DVD drive and card-readed - I guess they didn't want to spend extra dosh getting custom-made, colour-matched front-panels made up.
I felt quite snappy too, running Win7. He's going to set up a dual-boot Ubuntu install too, although personally I'd stick with Win7.
There are also quite a few videos of the C64x up on YouTube now, for those interested.
Cheers,
Mike. |

Mac OS X is not based on Linux... it's based on a mix of BSDs (FreeBSD & NetBSD) with a Mach kernel (aka NeXTstep... from Steve Jobs other computer company NeXT)._________________
