Would anyone here like to see OS4 running on G4 based Macs.

If your answer is YES, please post your thoughts here in this thread.

However, if your answer is NO: do not post in this thread. Perhaps you can make your own thread about why OS4 shouldn't be running on Macs. Posting here in this thread is just trolling. Please don't troll!

Yes, an iBook G4 version of OS4.x would be great! With the Sam 460 still not supporting the on-board sound chip and the X1000 in a state of 'When it's done", it would be nice to try out the OS on something already available and cheap to get hold of!

As I'm a wannabe musician, a mac laptop would be great! There are several OS's I'd like to run for various musis apps. Why not have a partition on it for OS4 as well?

@Darth_X

As long as it's a Mac laptop, not just another desktop, yes, I'm all for it.

Problem is, who's going to do it?

My iBook G4 is getting too old for all the new stuff that Apple brings out.

So a version of AmigaOS 4.x on it would be great.

On the other hand an AmiKIT version with the upcomming JIT for E-UAE
would perhaps be more feasible.

Yes to all!

1GHz and faster G4 Macs can be had for peanuts on eBay. I'd buy OS 4 for Macs (and required hardware) without a second thought.

Yes, on a laptop would be great, a Mac Mini can be had for very reasonable prices on Ebay, would be a very cost effective way of using a fast machine for OS4.

@amigatronics

Who wouldn't want more options?

Maybe QEMU + KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) will some day let us run OS4 from within Linux. For the moment, KVM doesn't work on a G4, though.

I would like to see a port for my ibook g4
I would also buy MOS if that was ever ported to it, but apparently they have no plans to do so.

I would like that. I think an iBook or PowerBook is the easiest path to an "Amiga laptop" that there is. I understand the resistance to that due to lack of proper documentation for Apple's chips. I understand they are old. I understand that other CPUs (both x86 and ppc) today are capable of far more than a G4. Fine, then make a laptop with those and give your documentation and porting fee money to those who can do it. I've pondered this since about 2004, maybe 2003, and have nothing to show for it. The iBooks and PowerBooks are the best/cheapest/quickest solution to this conundrum.

My iBook G4 has been too old for stuff Apple brings out. Best we can do is OSX 10.5. 10.6 dropped the PPC completely. Isn't 10.7 (Lion) out now?

It is, and they've even dropped PPC emulation now, so no PPC apps will run on OS X any more.
