@guruman

Since Moana is not fully functional, so the leak isn`t really a functional leak - are there any other reasons (or Hyperion / Acube soft3D) and statements why the project was cancelled when it reached "maturity" level? Understandable, it was suspended during the process.

Guess is the Mac port is reasonable as much as Pegasos one was - to bring more users have the AmigaOS 4.

Lucky guess would be - wouldn`t be much harder road from Moana to AmigaOS 4.1 port as it was from AOS 4 Classic to OS 4.1 Classic realise.

Only reason against is that it might temporarily hurt Acube sales but then again lucky guess is that there are people that would like to try OS 4 and would pay for the software, and can`t afford the SAM + OS package.

How could he port something that he doesn't own?

Best to read the whole thread.
Both the comments from Adam and the others about Moana were prior to the legal activity, when everything was unknown.

Oops, ok, let me correct my sentence then:

How could he port something that he didn't own?

I really don't want to relive these points in history. heh.
It was bad enough to go through it once...

Hehe, it was a rhetorical question. I don't need/want an answer.

ooh, im sure it would have been better then osx of mcbill did it!

Put me down for a few copies were we to be blessed with a Mac port, i have a powerbook awaiting Morphos and im evaluating my os4 options, the x1000 as a complete unit is totally out of the question, there is sadly no way i can justify spending 2000 dollars on the thing, i could justify 1000+ for the board perhaps, its undoubtedly tasty hw and makes me drool just reading the specs. But "just" to run os4, which i have no prior experience with, a Mac version would be more then preferable, i cant for the lights of me understand or comprehend why a mac port shouldnt or hasnt been done, it would attract a myriad of users and much needed developers, which is nothing but exactly what we need. Perhaps Macs could serve as part of the low end os4 platform when the x1000 is out. But perhaps one day if acube calls it quits they want to have the option of releasing to macs up their sleeves, so the only likely or remotely logical reason not to release would be protecting the investment in, from and partnership with Acube i guess, and they have after all provided us with new fresh hw under warranty, so were not reliant on aging macs albeit of very good build quality.

Couldn't care less what other people think, seeing that there's concrete evidence they don't.

@Darth_X

If it ran on my Mac mini I'd be interested. But generally I doubt OS4 would enrich my Mac mini user experience much to my existing dual boot setup of MorphOS and Tiger. Hence I'd say I am rather little interested.

@elwood

McEwen Co was a required part of the licensing situation at the time. While he didn't own OS4 code, he owned the name and whatever rights involved that the had. You couldn't then get a legal OS4 without him. Unforunately, the technologylicensing@amiga.com email they set up for contacting about exactly that sort of thing was completely ignored as far as I could tell, so it was a farce on their side. I have no idea how Acube got anywhere, I'm just glad that someone did. And I'm even more happy that McEwen Co. are out of the picture for this sort of thing today.
