SIgn me up!

Just saw the news that the X1000 will start shipping by years end and AmigaKit will start taking pre-orders. Great news I believe for the Amiga fans.

I can't wait to see it in action Saturday and plan on coming home and putting my order in.

Not cheap but what the heck, one should support those that keep hobbies like this going. And that is coming from someone that has not been into Amiga that long and was raised on Atari and use Macs professionally.

Anyway, excited to see it going to finally ship.

And since I am self employed with my own tech company, maybe will have to use it professionally at my workplace.

Cool..

Yeah true, but who wrote it did a really bad cut, copy and paste as several parts of the articles are repeated. Must be too excited.

Finally there's an official pricetag! Looks like including OS4 plus assorted taxes and shipping it will be around $3000. A bit pricey but not completely unreasonable. I'll be looking forward to reviews and benchmarks, I'm especially interested in PCIe performance. These days the worth of a high end system is all about how fast one can shove data to and from the GPU, as long as the CPU and memory bus are halfway decent (and so far we haven't heard any indication that they won't be in the X1000).

IMHO A-Eon should do what Genesi did back in the day and hand out a few freebies to deserving devs (maybe make them the prize of a "show us what you can do with OS4" contest).

@MacSociety

The schedule's confusing. Update 4 in November(?) and update 5 in December? And 4.2 sometime next year? Maybe they'll release update 5 exculsively for the X1000 and then for the rest later.

Wondering what the word "limited" in the announcement means? Only making so many of this 1st batch? Case is marked with "limited edition"? Anything special about it to garner the word "limited" in this initial batch?

Just curious.

...so basically "we won't have to wait until Christmas?" Pardon me, but I'll believe it when I see it.

@recedent
I had hoped (ahem) we'd seen the last of speculative announcements about the X1000, and would only see firm announcements .

@ChrisH

I think if they're taking pre-orders that is a firm announcement.
There's no way AmigaKit would be doing that unless it were genuinely imminent, they know better than that.

for italian users this pre-release X1000 will cost 2457 euro!!

in this economic world crisis, it' not the ideal to launch new hardware for very few lucky peoples.

@Seiya

it is premium (Porsche under the Amigas so to say). Who wants it shall buy it... But it will certainly not become a big seller (propably never was intended to)

Good news I think, but confusing announcement - AEON should make sure this is properly handled - we had enough of confusion regarding the X1000

If you have a good friend with a company that earns much and needs to make some costs
for his company then he can buy the machine for you in another EU-country without VAT ...

You can avoid the taxes that way. You're friend can put the machine in his books as a cost and you have a taxfree x1000.

There is a big danger in that, what if the Tax authority decides to make a control in order to see you are not cheating?
At least here, you can be required to show a receipt, as well as the actual item it concerns, as well prove you are using it for your company, and not for private use.

That's not a confirmed shipping date, they just wrote about their hopes.

@tomazkid

I guess they can do that in every country. The receipt has to be in the books ofcours, to show the item ... well you can't because you just brougth it to a store for a repair, it broke down whatever.

But if they have to control every company that buys a computer to make sure it is used for the company and if it's still there... well good luck to them. So what you say is really worst case scenario and besides that... can they tell difference between an X1000 and let's say a Dell ?
