Sorry, but I refuse to be labelled a whiner just because I think 3000+ euros for an X1000 is pricey.
I never said the world would end if I didn´t buy the fastest Amiga available.
I´ve been an Amigan for more than half my life. Spent a good deal of money buying hardware and software. Bought more Amigas than I can remember. Bought ALL AOS versions so far. Even bought a few programs I ended up not using that much. I respect the efforts of all involved in creating the X1000 and OS4.
But...
A line must be drawn somewhere.
Blindly "agreeing" to whatever price is not for me. If you think 3000+ euros is a bargain, by all means go for it. I'm happy for you and would be even happier if a few thousands like you did the same.
I'm just saying I think it's way too expensive. |

Well, you can have the money and still think it's not worth the investment. That doesn't make you an "enemy of the cause". ;)
Sadly, I don't have the money. But even if I had, it would be really to justify investing it in the X1000, as currently priced. |

No, it is not too expensive. It is horribly expensive! 2500 EUR for year 2007 class hardware - they must be joking!
However, there are still people crazy enough to buy it even at that price... like me. |

Well, didn`t have A2000/A3000/A4000 either, so no one should be bitchy because isn`t richest person in the world.
For those that will buy it, glad that it will be around. Hope to see more reviews and more "heavier" software development_________________ Future Acube and MOS supporter, fi di good, nothing fi di unprofessionals. Learn it harder way! |

On Aug. 14th 2011, MorphOS had 1.214 registrations. Here's a breakdown for each release: |
Clearly MOS 2.x and Mac support did gave it a wings.
It would be nice to see (know) similar for AOS 4.x including lices given to Eyectech A1 owners. But maybe its better not to know - it can`t be much lower then MOS figures (taking that Classic version was best selling and probably had many , but can`t be skyrocking either. We indeed are the small market nowadays._________________ Future Acube and MOS supporter, fi di good, nothing fi di unprofessionals. Learn it harder way! |

I think there was above 700 SAM440 users about two years ago (according to individual driver downloads). So, IMHO, amount of AOS4 registrations should be close to 2000 (or slightly above) nowdays. _________________ - KimmoK // For freedom, for honor, for AMIGA // // Thing that I should find more time for: CC64 - 64bit Community Computer? |

Ohno, not those downloads again ....
How often do you read OS4-users "solving" problems by doing a clean install ?
Add to that that until recently OS4 had only crap browser would fail on download quite regular.
2000 units might be o.k. if you count 4.0 and 4.1 seperate, surely not if you want to count actual (current) users. _________________ - We don't need good ideas, we haven't run out on bad ones yet - blame Canada |

Yep, me too, there should be 2K AmigaOS 4.x users around.
Even if I think driver downloads does not give an accurate estimate (sometimes people download the same stuff 3 - 4 times). |

Lets say there might be 1 200 AOS 4 and 1 200 MOS current users and make it a draw (even both figures might be slightly wrong, there are people having several machines, both MOS and OS4 ...).
Its not a big community after all, but its good to be there. _________________ Future Acube and MOS supporter, fi di good, nothing fi di unprofessionals. Learn it harder way! |

Divide those numbers by 2 and you're close to a likely real number. Many pl have 2 or more machines/licenses. I think 600-800 active users for each, OS4 and MorphOS 2.x, is a pretty reasonable guesstimate. _________________ My programs: via.bckrs.de MorphOS user since V0.4 (2001) |

Good guess for active users. I'd divide these numbers again by 2 to get people who use their computer on a regular basis._________________ Power Mac G4 "Quicksilver 2002" 800Mhz, 1.5GB RAM, Radeon 8500 MorphOS 2.7 (Registered) $225 total spent! |

They had to? Heck, no, we didn't have to. We chose to do so. SAM was an option buteventually rejected, one of reasons was to concentrate on Mac mini port. |
And I dailly applaude to that decision. Instead of still waiting for powerful hardware I am actually using powerful and cheap hardware (1.5 GHZ Mac mini) since more than 2 years. Plus, sound was working from the 1 release as well as 3d was. It also didn't need an additional ethernet and sound card as some limited editions do...
If MorphOS gains enough momentum we may see new and sustainable options arise in future. But with current situation it is way easier to just use what's there already._________________ My programs: via.bckrs.de MorphOS user since V0.4 (2001) |

I´m sad to say that I agree. The price is set too high for a community to expand. Here where I live you can buy a 64bit laptop with Intel Core i7, 500gb harddrive and 4gb mem for about 550 euro. That is 5000 swedish crowns.
How are you going to persuade someone to buy an Amiga x1000 for about 20 000 crowns instead of that laptop?
On top of that with the lack of games and heavy software you have practically nothing to tempt them with.
A game or software developer wont probably even not look this way before Amiga has sold several thousand computers. They should really have to cut the price to about half.
One of the reasons why Amiga was so big was that it was much cheaper than PC (for about a million years ago ), looked better and that you had thousands of good games to play.
You can´t really say that now can you?
So what are you going to lure PC users over with? Not the nice price obviously :-/ and not all the good looking games either.
Sorry to say but this isn´t looking good |

For me, with the A1X1000 it's the money choice - "Can I afford it?"
I used to try and justify the expense before I bought the A1 but then realised I'd never get one. So when I could afford it, I bought one.
The same applies with the A1X1000.
It's the only way I can see to support the ongoing investment (of time as well as financial). I can't program, I'm just an end-user, so how else can I support?
If we want to see Amiga progress as a platform, we have to show support somehow.
