@kas1e

256mb is OK for AmigaOS4, 512mb is prefect.
anything under 256mb is too low.

@Amiga_3k

Don't expect 1080p to play well on it, but you will be able to surf the net, develop some software, take Amigaos on holiday, play some games, and do some work on it using Cinnamon Writer or AbiWord, clean up your holiday pictures using Gimp or TVPaint, and many other things, like playing your favorite mod tunes / mp3 on AmiAmp and TuneNet.

1080p playback is not needed here for the next... 6 years or so as our plasma TV is only HD-Ready and is just 2 years old. This gives Hyperion / A-Eon some time . The other things you mention is about my typical free-time computing usage. When more power (or Windows) is needed I'll get the office's laptop out of the bag.

So, conclusion: Hyperion, please get it out. Me, go and find money.

Sadly, but no. Amycygnix apps very slow even on peg2/1ghz. Yesterday i see on amiwest stream some speach about amycygnix : it was even slower than for me on presentation !

So, cut them off from netbook, for sure.

Psssttt... Between you and me, the multimedia part here is covered by an HP Mini with Atom processor so the 'Amiga' would be available to me for playing about .

@Amiga_3k

Funnily enough I just bought one of those last night from Tescos for £199. Only bought it so I can view webpages in Internet Explorer so I wanted the cheapest thing going.

@djrikki

Hehehe... we bought 2 of them just before the summer vacation to satisfy our on the go internet needs. Then, once back, I thought let's try their ability to act as a multimedia player, to replace an old Dell Optiplex GX-270. They did a good job so you may guess where that old Dell is now . I thus have no need to replace it once again for yet another multimedia enabled device.

Said that... is there some kind of VNC application for AmigaOS4 as the netbook should act as an interface to remotely operate the mini.

And my 1.33GHz G4 Mac struggles to play 320p Youtube videos, and my 1.8GHz G5 Mac struggles with 480p. What's your point? I think it's pretty obvious it's not meant for high performance work, but as a basic entry machine which has the benefit of being portable.

@Amiga_3k

I've used TwinVNC to successfully remotely control Snow Leopard in the past and Windows 7 can be controlled via remote desktop as well.

This is very exciting. Hope to finally get an AmigaOS4 machine. Good pricing for a first time buyer.

@kas1e

Well its not too slow for every one, we are not taking about using Gimp as painting program, just a program for trimming edges and red eyes etc and color adjustments, you don't need a high frame rate to do that.

Never ever use FFS if you have large raw images you edit
Fast File System should be renamed Slow File System.

@NutsAboutAmiga

Its even slow just on booting. Try to run GIMP, you will see how not fast is it even on fast cpus. On the netbooks with 400mhz it will be madness slow, but with 800 it can be almost the same slow as on my peg2.

I.e. everyday use mean that you can run everything fast, without waiting and without any problems. And while i think that amycygnix its good and so on, still, to be enjoenable only x1000 can help (and even with x1000, i not sure that slowdowns are problems of raw power, maybe of design of amycygnix itself).

Just get any new user, and show him how amycygnix works on 400mhz. He will laugh when you will say about "use it everyday". Native apps are ok on 400mgz, but not amycygnix for sure.

Don't forget slow onboard graphics (of course it can't be fast), and its all will put amycygnix far away from being usable on it.

Who say about FFS ? My amycygnix setups tested and on SFS, and even on JXFS some time ago. All the same problems which can be cowered by one word "its slow".

Hmmm... better not! As it meant (at least for a part) the fall of Commodore.

Agreed; better to use Wordworth, Photogenics, ArtEffect etc with the 68k emulation.

Something must be seriously borked on your Macs
