It's a netbook. They are not designed to be fast. If you want power, buy a desktop machine.

On the CPU side, AMD Z-01/C-50/C-60's dual core AMD Bobcat CPUs based netbook will beat SAM440/460 based desktop machines.

@Hammer

Does not run AmigaOS4, so who needs a AMD?

This is the first piece of hardware that I can practically think about buying, a good price, it would actually be useful, and regarding battery life, the CPU specs are perfect for laptop... battery life should be as good or better than x86 netbook! I can see this as a nice earner for the HW manafacturer and Hyperion

Better than AMD's incoming Hondo APU i.e. AMD Z-01 replacement?

Switching to "netbook" form factor is a welcome change.

The day AmigaOS4 runs on a AMD cpu that day it becomes interesting, until then we are happy to enjoy there graphic cards.

I didn't call anyone blind followers, I was responding to your a comment.

Obviously people actually care what OS they support, can you believe that?

What does this imply? That is what I responded too. Anything else is putting words in my mouth.

@redrumloa

You didn't answer any of my questions either. You chose the "blindly following" words, I only said people care about what OS are supported on their laptops.

EDIT (I seem to edit much these days...):

Quote:
What does this imply?

It implies that maybe MorphOS isn't the answer all the time.

What question? This?

Obviously people actually care what OS they support, can you believe that?

I did answer your question, I said I would hope people wouldn't be so closed minded. In my original post I stated I might be interested in this (OS4) Netbook. Since I happen to have a PowerMac with MorphOS *DEMO* on it, I must be a die-hard Blue Troll? Come on, you can do better than this. A couple months back certain people wanted to imply I was a CUSA employee simply because I didn't fit in the mob mentality (not everyone).

If you are going to quote me, please quote in context.

I would hope people would be open minded and not just blindly follow one option

And you are the one in the thread trying to put up a wall. My post expressed interest in an OS4 related product, your post was simply divisive.

Interesting choice of words here. In this context, are people chosing MorphOS open minded or blindly following one option?

I know you're not a blue troll, but saying people blindly follow one option still isn't very nice. I'd say that is at least on par with me being divisive. Lets play this game then:

Quote:
I would hope people would be open minded and not just blindly follow one option

If I'm open minded, what should I chose? If I blindly follow one option, which would that be?

Put these questions in the context of which group have been called BAF's, mostly for chosing differently to those saying it, for quite some years, and you should get my drift.

"Netbook" term is predominately associated with Intel Atom i.e. can't go worst this CPU range.

Also, ARM Cortex A9's performance is about the same level Intel Atom (Pineview).

Better not start X86 vs PPC debate then...

Refer to DBAlex's claims

Intel Atom Z6XX is already in mobile phone form factor e.g. http://www.geek.com/articles/mobile/intel-atom-z-runs-quake-3-at-100-fps-on-a-cellphone-2010055/

Unlike http://liliputing.com/2009/04/ibm-plans-to-build-an-atom-rivaling-netbook-cpu.html Intel Atom "Pineview" 45nm process target, latest Intel Atoms "Cedar Trail" are in 32nm process node.

AMD Z-01/C-50 (with Radeon HD 6250M) is already in a tablet form factor and 40nm process node. AMD already replaced C-50 with C-60 and "Hondo" plan to replace Z-01. AMD 's 28nm Bobcats based APUs are under "Krishna" and "Wichita" codenames.

Does 400MHz PPC not run WinUAE so most Amiga applications won't work.

well what are you doing wrong ? !
I was watching youtube recently on my 400mhz pismo powerbook fine.

And it even was running an os too heavy for it, 10.3 a g3 should really be running 9.2.2.

Do you have a link to the confirmation that it really is a 400MHz CPU?

Not quite sure where you are coming with this comment? I would hope people would be open minded and not just blindly follow one option. I find MorphOS to be the most usable option ATM, but would give OS4 a try if the cost of entry for a reasonablly specced working system wasn't so far out of whack. A $300 netbook with reasonable specs could do it for me to give a try, but with Acube confirming it is 400Mhz I am afraid I will pass -Edit- I will say at 400Mhz my cynical side was wrong about them trying to preempt MorphOS 3.0's PowerBook Support.

MOS is better optimized and polished due to longer development for sure,
but you know there was a demand for AmigaOS 4 nettop and lower priced machine, which that unknown device should be. And its joy.

Acube didn`t confirmed its 400Mhz, and final specs are not yet decided. Hope OS 4.x will use some hardware accel provided by 3D gfx by that time (PowerVR supposed to be in this one) as well as it will come with Linux. Maybe this could be an easy and nice target for MOS too, even you are right, it simply can`t come before or beat in any category PowerBook with MOS. But can bring more users to OS4 camp or bring joy to existing.

Idea was to say nettop won`t be suitable for UAE games and apps? For sure, even with JIT it would be great if it could emulate some OCS games, no one expects it out, that is what desktop systems are. It would be great to have higher specs laptop and E-UAE with JIT / RunInUAE or AmigaForever as part of the sys, but that simply insn`t the case with OS4 or MOS at current versions.
