From what I understand, someone from Hyperion told the Author of the blogpost that AmigaOS doesn't need cache coherency and that it will perform nicely on a MPC5121e. I'm pretty skeptical of this claim as it would mean Hyperion basically revealed the netbook via email quite earlier.
Whatever the final specs, I'm all up for it!
And by the way, congrats for your speech at AmiWest, it was really informative and funny at the same time!

This isn't a e300 problem, there's an internal bridge in the SoC that the e300 core cannot snoop. The e300 will cache anything it hears, it just doesn't hear certain traffic inside the MPC5121e. Not so strange, as it has PCI, PATA, SATA and USB 2.0, plus a whole bunch of other interfaces providing IO. And the power consumption is REALLY awesome. I've built a card myself (hence the sig). no graphics, USB, SATA and PCI, but using PATA (for CF), 5 serial ports, SPI, I2C, ethernet and DDR2. I wish DDR2 was always that easy. Managed to get it right the first time
Unlike PATA for CF, which I totally screwed up on first proto
Oh, and btw: the pin labeled TEST needs to be wired to GND. I put it on a test pad, which caused a complete lockup in proto series 2. For SOME reason, proto 1 _sort of_ worked, but that was a case of 'works by accident', possibly related to silicon bugs. I changed some resistors on a serial port on the proto 1 hardware and everything stopped working, so I had some weird moments during development... _________________ This weeks pet peeve: Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). Sometimes I don't even know what people mean. |

| So, is there any new news on the progress of the Amiga netbook? I came back to the forum here this week, and tabbed it on my browser, in order to find out what the current situation was on things like this device. _________________ "I love peacenicks, they're so easy to conquer." --Ivan J Ironfist, the Dictator |

The release date is uncertain, but when it's released it's going to ship with Aladdin4D 6.0 preinstalled. 7.0, someone says. |

Is it OK to assume AmiWest will at least have some status update? I have lost faith it will happen 2012, honestly. When OS 4.2 is out, I expect net top to be next._________________ Future Acube and MOS supporter, fi di good, nothing fi di unprofessionals. Learn it harder way! |

Are you sure that's not Aladdin 12, Timberwolf 14 and Blender 9? _________________ 1 AmigaOne G4XE (OS4 Pre-Release Update4) Minimig Sam440ep + OS4.1FE Sam460cr + OS4.1FE |

With last year's announcement I'd have hoped for at least an official press-release with some more concrete info by now..
Not pointing any finger on the tentative release date that was mentioned at AmiWest but, what happened to the push to "increasing communication between the AmigaOS team, the system's user base and other developers."
I mean, last time I heard about the Netbook was on Solie's Computerworld interview:
Quote:
In October Hyperion Entertainment announced an AmigaOS-based netbook. "Nothing much has been heard since then regarding the netbook but we do know it already runs AmigaOS." |
Source: http://www.computerworld.com.au/article/426217/amigaos_4_developer_interview_why_it_endures_what_future_holds/?pp=2
Seems at this stage even Solie does not have any information on the Netbook, ouch. Does not make much sense to me. I fear for the worst (ie: project cancelled / postponed indefinitely).
I'd be glad to be proven wrong. |

| I'm becoming quite skeptical about the netbook, a 400 MHz computer in 2013 will be quite embarrassing, honestly... Let's hope for better specs, surely things as Timberwolf will never work decently on such an hardware. Last edited by andres on 04-Aug-2012 at 09:43 AM. Pentium II 250 MHz class performance wouldn´t impress anyone even 10 years ago. 2012 or 2013, in my point of view it is the same.

I'm becoming quite skeptical too, whatever Megahertz it is / was supposed to have.
Even if the original announcement was handled pretty badly at least it had some resonance outside the "usual circle", with some coverage on some major websites and such.
Why they're not leveraging on this with some updates remains a mistery to me.
And - if you do not have anything to show and/or the project is stalled - respect your (only) community, be open and communicative.
At least (always IMHO) it makes sense in this day and age.
So to me no news = bad news. |

who cares... there are mobile options now, of course not AOS based but who cares. I think they will say (at least) something at Amiwest, if not people will not take them seriously anymore (when they announce something). But a Netbook would be a chance for them to sell some new licenses so motivation should be there... |

Exactly! That's why I don't understand the lack of updates on this front. It could have had a much bigger "impact" than the AmigaOne X1000 and brought them much more licenses. |

| The point is, a netbook must be usable to surf decently the web, and I guess that a 400 MHz netbook is really limited from this point of view; surely Firefox is not a program for such a machine. Anyway, let's see what - if - happens. Last edited by andres on 04-Aug-2012 at 10:52 AM.

no way that Firefox will be usable on such a slow machine. The bare minimum of comfortable usage is probably a G4 class CPU....

| Timberwolf in its current incarnation runs quite smoothly, so I would suggest nothing short of the 667Mhz that my Sam440ep runs at.
If you are hoping to watch HTML5 video within your browser then 667Mhz just doesn't cut it, so IMO 800Mhz+ would be needed.
I have wanted an Amiga laptop/netbook for the longest time, but 400Mhz just wouldn't be enough. _________________ 1 AmigaOne G4XE (OS4 Pre-Release Update4) Minimig Sam440ep + OS4.1FE Sam460cr + OS4.1FE |

| We all know perfectly well that the netbook announcement was just tossed out there to derail the MOS 3.0 release so why bother talking about it. My money says it`ll never happen.
