@djrikki

The video capability and RAM is just as important as speed. I think 400Mhz would be totally useless in a year or two. I would spend an extra $100 for a faster CPU.

@djrikki
I will get it but I am not satisfied with the speed and would have preferred a faster/more expensive solution.

I am aware of the situation and know we can't have it all (at once), so I will give it a chance and see how usable it will be.

@djrikki

I'd really prefer a performance laptop. Btu I need something that I CAN use at all, none of my desktop systems fit that description right now. I just don't have time to make a place to put them, and I don't want to be stuck buried in the storage room myself to use AmigaOS.

While this is definitely NOT the laptop I desire, I will absolutely buy one just to get me legit in calling myself an Amiga user again. It's been a few years now, trying to get by cross-compiling on Linux but not being able to test run anything...

Just like MorphOS regging style then? I don't know how OS4 regs are controlled (they have a serial you must write) but the user-licence should include possibility to change just the CPU at least.

I do not care much about its configuration as long as it runs RunInUAE, Timberwolf, TuneNet and mplayer, I just want one now!

Of course the faster the better, then if it'll also be able to dual-boot AmigaOs and Android, even better.

Come on, Hyperion spill the beans!

My concern is not AmigaOS4.x on 400mhz. I worry about all the apps that may struggle on such a lowly device.

And that's all we should worry about. Why get all worked up about how long it will take to open a window or how long to draw icons in my disk directories?? What's important is will we be able to watch DVD quality video on this? (Via a USB DVD drive or a Rip, whatever?) Will Timberwolf be acceptable to use, or will it be painfully slow? Will YouTube work well? Will it play MP3s or Pandora OK? Can I word-process reasonably, or does it take a few seconds for a letter to show up after I type it? What will people use a NetBook for (internet things, watching/listening to movies/videos/music) (OK, Amiga users will try to absolutely everything on this), and will this be usable for those things? (I'll probably be doing a lot of text editing like in Vi, and I expect that to be OK) I would not expect Eclipse to run well on 400MHz if we ever get Java and all that to use such a thing. Eclipse is awesome but is really demanding. I'd love to check out the Amiga dev environments. I hope that AmiCygnix apps will be tolerable but we'll see.

Um, have things got so bad, that even a machine with a THOUSAND TIMES the Raw CPU power of an A500/A2000 Classic is being worried over if it can handle TEXT? @.@

Lets be gernaous, and say it has only One Hundred times the code throughput of an A500 or A1200, given the increase is so great as to essentially place the older machines the same point, what would you love to be able to do on an A1200 with 100 Times the CPU throughput?

MP3?. CDXL (Youtube) resolution streaming video, web page JPEG decode? Or is it the Javascript engine run speed thats the problem, the layer on layer of CSS, script on script on script? Does Javascript use a JIT compiler model?

Can Javascript be compiled into nateive code or intemediate bytecode, then cached for future access to repeatable websites?

Can the idea of Gpatch and other code insertion methods on runtime be used to improve web page rendering? Or are these methods too close to Viruses?

Can a 400 Mhz netbook do more than a P3 500 PC with a Voodoo 3graphics card? Then its a matter of US companies abusing websites by overcoding them, not the limitations of the netbook.

Since I was going to call my X1000 "STELLA" (Brando...Streetcar named Desire) I'll just change from drama to science fiction and call her
"Stella, dear" and name the runaround Harcort Fenton Mudd.

Should be an interesting Network Connection.

I'll most likely buy one, but might wait for feedback if its@400mhz. Even 533 is an extra 33%, which is quite noticable at such low speeds. @667 or above Id buy one yersterday.

Maybe the pricerange mentioned is actually suggesting a few different clock rate (quite a gap between 300 and 500). Would be ideal if that's the case.

Yes its a lot faster than classic gear, but there's different expectations of it and its software uses more resources. We all know there's going to be need for a little more grunt with such a machine at any clockspeed, but the fewer times those situations are obvious the better.

That aside though Im pretty happy about this announcement. Ive always wanted to get an os4 system to go along with my a1200, amithlon box, aros machine and mac mini/mos, but really never expected there to be an option that suits me until now.

512M RAM is a must for me. 400Mhz is ok as AOS netbook for 300EUR. I would pay 400EUR if it is 800Mhz version. And 500EUR if it has L2 cache as well...

I never heard CUSA plans an Amiga netbook, keep us informed.
