Hi all,

JACK:

Users of Jack should download version 2.3 from OS4Depot, see upload queue if necessary ( jack1.lha ) or use the in-built auto-installer if you can reach it.

This is a quick fix release, today I observed the Weather Provider serving corrupt images. Jack 2.3 will now serve a blank image in the future when this happens and not crash out entirely.

Changelog:

* Image Save: The Resize? option wasn't clickable with the mouse, Fixed.
* Weather: If the Weather Provider supplies invalid Gifs, Jack will still open.
* Commodity Window: Amiga+Q is now the keyboard shortcut to close the application.
* Image Resize Window: Width/Height fields use the new Text Entry gadget.

I was hoping 2.3 would introduce the new Text Entry gadget application-wide, but just not had the time recently.

EDIT: Also a window handling issue remains unfixed in 2.3, sorry,

---------------------------

HAT:

I've taken a couple of days away from coding Jack to bring you HAT... the Hollywood Application Template.

As Hollywood currently doesn't have any kind of GUI support for the end-developer ( no Re-action! :( ) it is down to every HW developer to hand-code their own GUI objects. Well I've done a lot of the work already for you!

So download HW_Application_Template.lha from OS4Depot today.

* Create Toolbars
* Create Buttons
* Create TextFields
* Localisation support
* .. and more.

@djrikki

EDIT: See jack2.lha in upload queue.

Minor correction to Recent Uploads window, now handles downloads with two extension names; display only atm to ensure window isn't blocked.

Eg.

apod.tar.bz2
perl_reaction.tar.bz2

Hehe yeah sort of, I had fixed parsing of the FullIndex in an earlier version, but not in the Recent list.

@djrikki

Tried to install Jack from scratch and it seems like the installation is now borked.
Looks like it has been borked for a few versions.

The only file that get copied over is Jack without an icon.

Cheers

@TiredofLife

Thanks for reporting this. I see what you mean.

I've re-uploaded Jack to OS4Depot with installation script fixed.

See 2.3fix, check upload queue.

@djrikki

Now I can get back to updating Jack.

One area I have already addressed is the speed at which Jack will open, very important for file-requester support aka running from the command line.

@djrikki

New for 2.4 when its released:

* Calendar View

http://www.flickr.com/photos/61283734@N03/6298706687/

It will be non-interactive in this version, but in the future with the help of microformats and h2vx.com and other knowledge you'll be able to add an event to google calendar or save it so it can be imported into iCal/compatibles. Probably add native support in there as well for AOrganiser thanks to Rexx Support.

@djrikki

The scroll bars don't move in 2.4 in Jack manager.
The files themselves scroll though

Calendar is a nice touch.
Any plans to add reminders/alarams to it?

Cheers

@TiredofLife

Hiya, the scroll bars in the File Manager haven't worked from day one. It is something I have been hoping to get around to.

In the meantime you can used PGUP, PGDOWN, HOME, END, UP and DOWN as would be expected.

RE: Alarms/Reminders

Well I haven't posted a news item yet, was gonna wait til it dropped outta the Upload queue - nice to see you keen to try it out. I digress, yes that is my intention. I've disabled jumping through the Calendar months in this version till I have it perfected, but yes in the near future you will be able to add calendar events as well. Rather than creating yet another implementation I'd prefer to integrate it with something existing, e.g.

* Add a new event to AOrganiser (through Arexx)
* Add a new event to Google Calendar (php most likely)
* Add/Export an event to iCal/compatible (php and microformats)

Probably start wth AOrganiser first then think about how to pull off the other two - which are only ideas right now.

@Tiredoflife

Existing users can actually just fire up Jack as normal and if there is a new version available it can be downloaded directly without having to physically visit (is visiting a website physical activity lol) OS4Depot.... however users have to wait til it clears the upload queue before this can happen.
