x1000 has almost 2/3 of the CPU power of xbox360 and r700 outperforms the r500 caliber xenos. But sure it's almost 10x too pricey and very little gaming SW.

Competitive Game console development needs more money for SW development than for HW development.

XBox 360's PPE @ 3.2Ghz performs like a 1.6 Ghz PowerPC 970.

IPC wise, the PPE is like an Intel Atom Pineview.

XBox has 3 cores running at 3.2 GHz, X1000 has two cores running at 1.8 GHz and only one is usable by the OS. How is that 2/3s? The Xenos GPU in the XBox is no slacker either.

No because like already mentioned there are no gamed, the other consoles are more powerfull (Wii U will be out next year), it will be expensive so noone will buy it. Only if it was cheaper then the competition and had good games would it be an option.

So basically you are saying buy a Wii U instead of an X1000?

@persia

1) no one is suggesting to do a games machine where only one of the cores is used
2) it's not just about Mhz, xbox PPC is more handicapped than PA6T and some others
3) x1000 default GPU is r700 based, xbox GPU is based on r500
4) x1000 seems to have larger caches and equally fast or faster buses that are not shared with every component like on xbox 360 (example: x1000 CPU has 128bit wide memory bus and GPU has it's own 128bit bus)

etc. abox 360 is not rocket science technology based, it's main goal is to produce good GFX in TV resolutions, etc.

Anyway, HW does not matter unless we figure out the "lack of key SW" -problem.

@ ferrels

so are you saying all the people that saw the X1000 at numerous Amiga shows and 100 plus beta testers (of whom I know a few myself ) were/are actually actors in a grand conspiracy theme in Amiga Land...hmmm seems like a great plot for a new X Files show! I'm calling up Skully & Mulder now

@sundown

I'm not planning to educate anyone about the X1000. Just saying that everyone has been waiting 3 years and still no product. That's just ridiculous as is the pricing.

@klx300r

Nope. Just saying at this rate maybe my grand kids will be able to purchase an X1000......but by then, there'll be an X2000 with an expected delivery date of 2050.

What a waste of hot air!!!

We have the X1000 so be grateful we have a desktop in this Intel dominant computer-scape. The console market uses an over priced game licensing model to keep under priced hardware afloat! We don't have any AAA games to achieve this and the hardware is ridiculously overpriced in order to break even with R&D costs!!! This is a non-starter. The CD32 was a good product and it still failed because of near zero marketing (mad Weetos-like professor guy not withstanding) and no Doom license. The X1000 has ZERO marketing and a console version would bomb. Focus on keeping the X1000 dream alive. Leave the risky business of entering the console market to Apple. They'll eventually drop the ball with the Mac due to over diversifying into CE products (if they haven't already with OS X Lion ) and Linux, OS 4.x and other alternative OSes can grow.

First batch being sold, should be send soon. And it will take OS 4.2 to use it fully.
Yes, that is not convenient, but nice outcome considering many Amiga products that never appeared. Pricing is about as it was announced - we all knew its gonna be expensive and low volume.

Actually, first new PPC board beside Acube products to appear in few years.

Screw modern games. They are as boring as the claptrap that spews from closed minds every time somebody even has a glint of an idea that does not meet their very limited imagination and not visible beyond the tip of their nose.

Please stop these nonsenses. I would have really loved to play current games, with todays graphics, sound and storylines, on my Commodore 64. But it simply couldn't offer the necessary grunt. Nor the Amiga could. When I was 11-18 I had plenty of time to play games, I would have enjoyed them much, much more than the few minutes the family and my job leave to me allow. Modern games are far better than older ones, stop dot.

As for a X1000 games console, I'd have made the exact contrary, licensing the hardware of a PS3 or a Xbox360, and building complete systems based upon them, calling them the X1000 or whathever, and port OS4 to them. Less time, more knowledge, less development efforts, better support.

The two chips are not the same, the Xenon is a console CPU with lots of things disabled. The numbers mean nothing in any real comparison.

...with a decent media center solution supporting dvb-(s,s2,t and c), EPG, time shift, H.264 recording, CI interface aswell a wide variety of supported tv cards and the ability to use a dual tuner combined with the ability to play copy protected blu-rays and dvds aswell many other audio and video formats and all of this with a price tag below 2000 Euros the X1000 MediaCenter could be a winner...

@all: Don't get me wrong: I like the X1000 and would love to own but i can't afford one
