You look like you may have your Uboot settings messed up as both drive are not set to their max speed. This may also be why the second drive does not show up.
Can you post the output from a Nvgetvar command agian please.
Mine is like this for a single hard drive and dvd drive

one last thing in case the Sam-itx sata stuff is reversed
set these two Uboot setting like this and try again
Nvsetvar sii3114ide_conf=1112 Nvsetvar sii3114ide_xfer=GGGF
if this does not work then I suggest you contact Acube for help .

I give up, I'm going to set it back to just one HD.
Setting a second HD shouldn't be this difficult.
It should just be a case of opening the case attaching a second HD to one of the Sata ports and away you go.
I will go back to just 1 500gb HD _________________ 2x A500 (1x 1MB) OS1.3 1x A600 (40MB HDD) OS2.05 2xA1200 (68020 8MB Fast RAM) OS3.9 1x CD³² 1 AmigaOne G4XE (OS4 Pre-Release Update4) Minimig Sam440ep + OS4.1.5 |

did you try my last suggestion re the Uboot settings before you give up ?.
First time I tried about a year ago I did not get it to work too . The one setting that I had not got right then was the Maxbus one. So the first time I got it to work was when I added the second drive to test the settings to respond to you in this thread. As time goes on you learn more.
also you idetool results are strange so something is not right .

Usually it works this way - i did this exactly with my Sam440ep, first setting UBoot variables, attaching hd to SATA port, booting, done. Very strange that it doesn't work for you._________________ X1000|II/G4|440ep|2000/060|2000/040|1000 |

According to this output:
- your second HD isn't there/recognized, - the other two drives are set to PIO mode instead of DMA mode, which means that the setting "sii3114ide_xfer=GG0F" is not active.
Spectre is right, there's indeed something strange going on...even without the second HD your system seems to ignore DMA mode for your primary HD. You might get in touch with ACube...

Would it be safe for me to change all my uboot setting to the ones you have listed here?
And if so can you then go on to tell me the amends needed to accept a second HD. _________________ 2x A500 (1x 1MB) OS1.3 1x A600 (40MB HDD) OS2.05 2xA1200 (68020 8MB Fast RAM) OS3.9 1x CD³² 1 AmigaOne G4XE (OS4 Pre-Release Update4) Minimig Sam440ep + OS4.1.5 |

Your settings seem ok. don't tamper with them for now. Some thing does not look right with the results from idetool so there may be another issue preventing the second drive from being found. This is why we suggest contacting Acube about the second hard drive and giving them your Uboot settings and your results from the idetool command.

Did you test your second drive only and test sata ports ?
For example, connect only one drive to sata port 1 and see what happens. Therefore, you will know if you have problems with stat connections and/or the disks.
I think you should do this before contacting A-Cube. _________________ Amiga is alive and so am .I !!

From the tests I have done the SATA ports and the HD are fine.
When my original HD went tits up I replaced it with a 160GB drive attached to the same port and that worked ok.
I then purchased a 500GB drive and attached that to the same port and that worked fine.
The problems started when I tried to attach both of them.
I have sent a mail to Acube with my uboot settings, so I'll wait and see what they say.
I've noticed when starting it displays: IDE Device 0: OK IDE Device 2: ....... * Timeout * Last edited by 1Mouse on 25-May-2012 at 01:31 PM.

This is wrong. It must be 1.
That's why you have timeout.
Now for the HD. Are you sure you have your HD 1 on J20 and the DVD on J23? Then for the second HD, did you try on the 2 other SATA ports?
Also you should remove sii3114ide_conf as the OS4 driver detects which kind of devices are connected. (do in OS4: nvsetvar sii3114ide_conf)

Just for clarity. Do you have two hard drives on your Sam ?

So change s4sii_maxbus=2 to s4sii_maxbus=1
Delete sii3114ide_conf
And put HD 1 on J20, DVD on J23 and second HD on either of the remaining SATA ports

My question was for Elwood.
I am trying to find out if his reply is based on theory or practice.
As a test I set my s4sii_ maxbus=2 with only one haddrive and I have no time out message. You also appear to have the CD and first harddrive connected to the right ports already.

It's theory and what ACube suggests i.e. it's either 0 or 1, nothing else. _________________ Philippe 'Elwood' Ferrucci Sam460 1.15 Ghz AmigaOS 4 betatester Amiga Translator Organisation |
