@AndyC

In the Scottish Sunday Times on the 6th May 2012 it said;

Quote:
...some SNP ministers have warned privately that legislating in Scotland threatens their chances of winning the independence referendum.

Apparently, there are 11% of Scottish voters out there for whom support for same sex marriage will make them less likely to vote for independence as opposed to only 2% of people for whom support for same sex marriage will encourage support for independence.

So your 'wishful thinking' doesn't ring true and the SNP are concerned about this issue too.

@BigD

I'd love to know where these figures were plucked from...

"Some SNP ministers" - who exactly?

Of the 11% of voters who would be less likely to vote for independence, what other factors are in play?

Why do you hate gay people so much?

Seriously...

North Carolina passed the first anti marriage ammendment since it forbad interracial marriage.

Try reading the Scottish Sunday Times. It's not available in England.

I fail to see hoe defending marriage from redefinition could be equated to hating people who practice homosexuality?! A minority of homosexuals and a vociferous voice from liberals and the media would like to redefine marriage, do away with traditional family values and destroy the nuclear family all under the guise of 'equality', The truth is 'equality' has been achieved through Civil Partnerships and this debate is purely about destroying marriage.

Carolina passes amendment to enshrine marriage in it's constitution

Protecting marriage in the State Charter seems the most sensible thing to do in this environment where one liberal judge could try and redefine marriage. Better to stipulate the definition in the charter so people understand what is meant by marriage in this topsy-turvy age!

1958. The majority of citizens were Accepting of interracial marriage bans. Polls of the time indicate 96% of Whites. By 1967 the US Supreme Court over turned all interracial bans.

If one is against gay marriage the answer is easy, don't have one.

Your argument is rephrasing of seperate but equal . At one time blacks and whites had seperate water fountains, barbers, etc.

As for destruction of the nuclear family about 40% of kids are born into a single family home in the USA. Straights are does trying this and gays impact would be minimal in comparison.

Read it or don't read it, it's up to you! You asked where the stats came from I told you to read your own native paper. You don't want to see the evidence then that's up to you but don't then question it when you can't be bothered to check it out!!

Great news about North Carolina hopefully we can embed something similar in UK law as although it was obvious even a few decades ago that marriage was between one man and one women the world is a lot more confused these days and you need everything spelt out in black and white!

Even better news that redefining marriage wasn't even in the Queen's Speech!

Quote:
That there is no mention of gay marriage is seen as an attempt by David Cameron to mollify members of his party opposed to the idea. The calculation is that the benefits of appealing to people who support gay marriage are outweighed by the risk of upsetting lots of core Conservative voters.

Now come on Coalition leave marriage alone and get back to figuring out how to stop the riots happening again etc, oh yeah that was due to lack of morals in society and family breakdown..... HERE'S AN IDEA; PROMOTE MARRIAGE, GIVE TAX BREAKS TO MARRIED COUPLES AND TRY AND REBUILD A SOCIETY BUILT ON COMMITMENT, LOVE AND BRINGING UP CHILDREN WITH STRONG MALE AND FEMALE ROLE MODELS I.E. THEIR BIOLOGICAL PARENTS IF AT ALL POSSIBLE!!! It's not rocket science and a lot more cost effective than all this social experimentation that is being suggested in the name of 'equality'. Don't turn 'equality' into the new witch-hunt against any institution that is held apart as special in society for the benefit of society! People who practice homosexuality can take part in a Civil Partnership if they want to try a monogamous lifestyle, but most will stick to their polygamous way of life no doubt.

NC was a failure. President Obama has come around to see seperate and equal is in reality not equal. I hope NC pushes this to the Federal level. Trying to run a natIon with 50 different meanings to marriage isn't going to work.

Strangely the issue in the US is being pushed by the bigots. They are using an anti-gay approch to drive voters to the polls. I think what we'll see like interracial marriage the legislature of hate in the end will lose.

In the end married gay men can keep stepping out on their wives with no fear their boyfriend will ask for commitment.

At least she can hold her hands up and say that her family unit is not the ideal but that she can see that a tight-knit Mum & Dad nuclear family would be a better environment to bring up her child. Fair play to her!

Obama really has taken the biscuit by announcing that he personally supports homosexual marriage. Looks like shameless profiteering and trying to get extra election fund money off LBGT peeps Looks like a cynical political move to me!

Obama tries to appeal to LBGT Community to Stump up cash for Election Campaign

Obama's flip-flopping on this issue is cringeworthy!! The guy has no core beliefs!! He tells you what he thinks you want to hear!!

From LINK

Quote:
OBAMA'S FLIP-FLOP PAST ON SAME-SEX MARRIAGE

1996, running for Illinois State Senate: 'I favor legalizing same-sex marriages,and would fight efforts to prohibit such marriages.'

2004, running for U.S. Senate in Illinois: 'My religious faith dictates marriage is between a man and a woman, gay marriage is not a civil right.'

2008, running for U.S. President: 'I believe marriage is the union between a man and a woman. As a Christian it's also a sacred union.'

2010, after Republican wave election: 'My feelings with this are constantly evolving, I struggle with this.'

2012, running for reelection: 'I think same sex couples should be able to get married.'

So far the Republican single Mom, Republican Candidate with 5 grandmas due to polygamy, and radio personality on his 4th wife have committed to the preciousness of 1 man & 1 woman. It appears to me they aren't well schooled in the meaning of irony.

Everything from April to Nov of even years is done by politicians with an eye towards politics. It's simply the reality of the situation. Since anti-gay bigots just forced the issue to a ballot in NC it was following the political timing of the situation, that is for sure.

You keep screaming that you represent the majority, and keep updating the number of signatures on your rabble rousers charter, yet the link you just posted contains the following statement.Quote:
A poll yesterday showed strong support for gay marriage among women, with 53 per cent supporting it and 30 per cent opposed. The gap is narrower among men, though they still back the idea by 48 per cent to 39 per cent.
So even the Daily Fail has to admit that your bigotry is not supported by the majority of the UK population

Marriage is about procreation, most of the world's global population understand this fact. For decades now the UK government has been listening to the minorities far too closely and for far too long.

Quote:
Marriage is about procreation, most of the world's global population understand this fact
Procreation is the term for a biological organism creating offspring through sexual production. Now that we have defined what you're saying here we can examine this claim.

First procreation has no mandate on marriage. The human body can sexually reproduce without any sort of special arrangement. In society today about 40% of people do in fact reproduce without marriage. There clearly is no need to marry to reproduce.

Second marriage has no mandate on procreation. We have nothing in the laws that mandates the creation of offspring happen within a marriage. Marriages exist without creating offspring. And once the offspring are created we have no laws requiring that marriage be severed because the procreation is done.

When we look at average family in the USA they have a bit more than 2 kids. The median length of the first marriage before divorce is 8 years. It takes but a few minutes for the sexual act. So do you really believe that 8 year marriage was for a 10 minute act? Doubtful at best.

Marriage is for a number of reasons. In modern western societies today most cite the emotion of love and desire for the other person. Though that's a fairly recent standard. People do cling to other reasons such as economic security, citizenship, and ensuring lineage as type of clan is among these reasons.

So while we do see procreation does more frequently happen in a marriage, neither the state of being marriage nor the act of procreating are dependent upon each other.
