AmigaOne 500 and Sound Blaster

I tried two Sound Blaster cards (PCI) which have the emu[something] chip. One is a Sound Blaster Live and the other is a Sound Blaster 512[something]. OS4 detects it as a emu[something]. But when I play a test sound, I get a beep that never stops and the computer locks up. Does this mean I'm doing something wrong or that the cards aren't supported by the driver?

@thinkchip

can you change what PCI slots the SoundBlaster cards are in? and the EMU* information is Chip Identification.

The driver will work with only specific chip identifications, and that you get a sound and the machine locking up to me reads as there is an Interrupt triggered without being "acknowledged" by the driver,

Every "Interrupt Event" has to have a "Response" to Terminate the Interrupt signal to the system, without this "Interrupt Complete" marker being set, the Sound Chip is not releasing the Interrupt so it is forced-locking the CPU into a fixed state.

I am not 100% certain as to what the driver is doing but it may be Identifying the chip as valid when in fact the chip is different to the software.

It may be more than the SoundBlaster boards you have include some kind of Bridge controller chip as well... if this is the case the actual Audio section of the cards may appear different even when being properly supported.

The machine in question operates normally as long as the Audio card driver is not loaded correct?

@thinkchip

I don't have an AmigaOne 500 (yet ) and don't know whether they are compatible with but when AmigaKit were testing cards for the AmigaONE X1000 we were advised by senior OS4 developers to steer clear of Soundblaster cards. It does not mean that they don't work with AmigaOS4 but apparently they have some nasty features.

@thinkchip:

There are SoundBlasters and SoundBlasters. I have one (A "Soundblaster Live!") in my A1-XE that works fine. I have another that I bought for the X-1000 but it won't work in either machine, it is recognised by the EMU10KX driver but doesn't make any sound at all.

I'm told that I should have bought a more modern card, but it's rather hard at a flea market to open the box and read the chip type, the stall holders get shirty.

I'm using a SoundBlaster Live 5.1 Digital on my sam460 :

Maybe it's your AHI settings.

unfortunately there are two version of Sound Blaster Live.

There is Sound Blaster Live 5.1 and Sound Blaster Live 5.1 Value (value is not indicated, but it's different.
some features don't work and it's not real 5.1 card.
it has all jack connector, but 5.1 don't work.
And drivers are different.
On windows, such as, you can install on VAlue card, the 5.1 live drvers, but could be some problems.

To see if it's value you have to watch board nunber SBxxxx (now, i ton't remember the number of live 5.1 and the value)

after a search, i found today that some soundblaster live are not produced by creative, but from other producers (the box is creative...) so with these have many problems with official drivers.

maybe soundblaster live that don't work in right way on AmigaOne 500 could be not real soundblaster live!

We need our own sound card for our next gens.
Delfina PCIe / xena soundcard / Natami soundcard or built from off the self with 100% supported components.

@thinkchip

Only Sound Blasters with specific EMU10K1 chip work with a driver from OS4 depot
http://www.os4depot.net/index.php?function=showfile&file=driver/audio/emu10kx.lha

If your live is original one, Live, Live 5.1 it should work.
Live OEM, Live Digital and 24-bit
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_Blaster_Live!
and with Audigy just the first generation will work.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audigy

Your 512 might work too, if this is the card
http://www.telecommander.com/pics/links/Sound%20Cards/sb512/sb512.htm

The trouble with Sound Blasters is that we have support just for this one chip
and Blasters have quite evolved, so you can`t get an SB out of shop and expect it to work ...

Currently the are doing PCI-E x1 card, which could nicely fit SAM 460 or X1000

Sound Blaster Recon3D

The Recon3D series were released in August 2011 and include PCI Express x1 cards such as Recon3D PCIe, Recon3D Fatal1ty Professional and Recon3D Fatal1ty Champion. The cards use the new integrated Sound Core3D chip, which features the Quartet DSP from the X-Fi series as well as integrated DAC, ADC and I/O interface in a 56-pin package

@davebraco

It looks the last three letters on the creative chip is significant. It looks like yours is JFF. I'll look like for one with the number EMU10K1-JFF.

@thinkchip

I have two of these LINK and they are my favorite cards that have worked in all my PPC amigas.

This one seems to be in Dallas. (not the soap opera)

As you can see it's a model SB0220 with the emu10k1-jff chip.

That's the one that I got for my A1 XE and it works perfectly well too, just to confirm that the card works.

@thinkchip

I gave up with Sound Blaster cards after trying 2 on my old Samflex with no luck. Got myself an M-Audio Revolution 5.1 card and it worked great on my Samflex and also now in my X1000.

@Mechanic

not off hand as it was a few years back but if you search for Sound Blaster problems on either here or amigans.net you will see many people have had similar problems with all different types of SB cards/chipsets.

@thread

I tried both Sound Blaster cards in my micro and they both work. Neither of them has the EMU10K1-JFF chip that works for other people in their SAM 460.

But have EMU10Kx chips anyway, which is well enough to get them working

@I'm now the owner of three Sound Blasters. I just bought one on ebay. I hope I don't have to buy any more.

I had a working SBLive but put it in the Spotify machine. Yesterday I got a SB Live card from my sister but it doesnt show up in AHI.
When looking at the PCI Bus in ranger it says SB Live! Value so apperantly these cards doesnt work in AmigaOne yet. :(

On the card there is a label that Says SB0200

Edit: According to the Wiki I have a "Sound Blaster Live! Dell OEM" with the EMU10K1X-DBQ chip
