When i saw that i was hoping for a couple of days maybe a week. This is a big problem for alot of sam460 users and how fun is it to show it to other ppl when the sound is working now and then? But if he doesnt have time then we have to wait as usual. _________________ AmigaOS on Google+ AmigaOS on Facebook |

I know exactly what you mean, new driver released today appears to fix this embarrassment. Now waiting for the browsing embarrassments to be fixed. Its kinda embarrassing when MUI-OWB can't even view the MorphOS-Files.net without hitting that 5 minute 100% CPU issue/repeated DSI episode! Once thats done I am gonna be a very happy chappy!Last edited by djrikki on 17-May-2012 at 03:47 PM. Last edited by djrikki on 17-May-2012 at 03:30 PM. I totally agree. I've put my A1-500 away and went back to my uA1. It may be deficient in a lot of ways, but it's very reliable. I think people are tired of my whining. If I don't say anything it doesn't mean things are working, it's just that it doesn't do any good. Either nobody knows anything or they're not talking. _________________ AmigaOne 500(update 6) / microA1(update 6) / Cubic IDE / Imagine Amiga 4000/1200/500/2500/1000 / VIC20 / C64 / SX64 / C128 / C16 / C116 / Plus/4 / PET B500 Windows 7 / 3GHz AMD Phenom 8GB RAM / Lightwave / Visual C++ |

i think that the Sam460ex machines will be very nice when the 4 driver areas are done. On board sata, on board sound, various PCIE sata and sound cards and the RadeonHD 3D that all of us are waiting for. Dont give up on it .

I just hope that with A1-500+ the driver situation is not reset. (if it's 6810 based, 2DGFX, sound and sata will need to be redone, IIRC.)
(we should have our own asic to complement those soc chips...) Last edited by KimmoK on 18-May-2012 at 10:55 AM.

| @rossv When will we get a new updated audio driver for SAM460? Some of us cant use the latest driver. I understand if you are busy but it would be nice to hear if there will be an update this year. Its been 8 months since the latest update(17 May 2012).

No, i have one thats working okay but i spent alot of money on my sam460 so it would be nice to be able to use the same driver as the rest of the sam460 users.

My issues with sound make me wish I'd gone for a 440. Even if it is half the speed. In fact... Anyone want to do a streight swap? :)

Yeah i know what you mean. Did you see my email?
@ noXLar No i have sound but its not perfect. I had another sam460 motherboard with latest sounddriver but had to change it because of freezing issues. I m playing music through my network using samba fs to connect to my NSA210. When i play music now i get delays in the music and sometimes cracking sounds.

| This sound problem is worrying me, I am about to buy a Sam460 system, and considering the price I have to pay I would be very frustrated if it turns out that sound doesn't work properly.
So, what is the exact situation with audio on the Sam460?

I dont have problems with the sound. I use TuneNet for playing radio streams the whole time. Also tried to play mp3 from my network HD which is connected on my Router (use smbfs to mount, router is USB 1.0 it is slow but ok for audio).

I downloaded samba filesystem and then used smbmounter. I could easily play music from my NSA210 earlier without any gaps in the music. Now it gets delayed and its annoying. Of course it could be something with the network/nsa too but if my version is okay what has been improved in the newest driver? I m using sm502.audio 6.2 (08.04.12). Aslak has a similiar problem. If we update to the newest driver the whole sound gets corrupted.
sm502.audio 6.2 (08.04.12) - Fixed crackling audio problem - Corrected playback timing speed - Replaced read/write and copy functions with fast assembler versions - Replaced delay function with lower overhead version
sm502.audio 6.3 (12.05.12) - Initialisation/reset problem fixed - Increased audio buffer size - Updated copy functions - Driver supports upcoming Mixer
@imagodespira Neither did i before i had to replace my motherboard. Last edited by joeled on 26-Nov-2012 at 11:51 AM.

My system, purchased in September from AmigaKit -
Current driver: sound crackles, but plays at the correct speed Previous driver: sound plays about 95% of the speed it should play, but has no crackles
Therefore I do not have an Amiga with speakers plugged in, which pretty much sucks. I bought a 460 instead of a 440 because it would be occaionally used for playing videos and was a more "modern" system etc. In heinsight, usebale sound is more important to me then a faster machine especially considering I DON'T want to play 3D games and all that lot.
I'm fairly sure it's down to the revision of the motherboard, or (more accurately) the media chip on the board. Most folks have no issues with sound, it seems.
At the end of the day it's up to you. You could ask the people who are buying it from to test the sound FULLY and make working sound a condition of your purchase. If you're buying from AmigaKit, I'm sure they'd be happy to do that.
