Sadly that non-nda x1000 users fear benchmarks. They anyway enjoy their x1000, so no point to fear if it will be slower in some parts. At least we will know the truth , and developers will know what areas can be optimised.

1. The x1000 with update 5 isn't ready for benchmarks
2. The developers don't read this forum to see them
3. Better to post benchmarks on a beta site that they do read
4. Benchmarks now will be slow & only harm the platform
5. Benchmark OS4.2 when its released with decent gfx & speed

There are faster benchmarks with the beta OS that can't be posted.

And yes, we are enjoying our X1000 experience...

So, Hyperion's message is, it makes no sense to buy X1000 until 4.2 is released.

And...?

It is obvious Hyperion dont want benchmarks because they are not favorable. Was there perhaps too much hype?

1. If x1000 dones't ready now for benchamrks, then when it will be ready for benchmarks ? After 10 years ? Its out now, so current benchmarks are interesting. Not those ones which "maybe someday soon 2 more weeks when it done".

3. Better to post benchmarks on a beta site that they do read

2. No one here who in interest in technical details, care about some "beta site benchamrs of x1000" stuff. We just ask about public, current, stuff. What the fear to show it ? If you enjoy your x1000, did you fear that someone will troll about ? You know me, i am os4 user, and i ask for all of this because i am in itnerst to know truth, not in "its not ready for benchamrks" or any strange stuff like that.

3. Fearing of current benchmarking, fearing to feed the trolls, fearing that something can be wrong and show it to public : that what harm the platform. If something slow, its not problem. Its truth. If it will be changed in future - good. But we about today.

Quote:

5. Benchmark OS4.2 when its released with decent gfx & speed

4. We not talk about gfx here. We know its not done. We talk about pure stuff, like lame encoding, video encoding and stuff. All what we ask, its to do the same tests on linux as already done for os4 at begining.

5. We know that everything can be (or can not) be changed in future. Users just ask about today.

I'm buying one pre-4.2 so I must not have gotten that message. I want the best possible AOS4 experience money can buy. I already know I can do a lot of stuff faster on other platforms, but that is not dissuading me. Is there any actual potential X1000 customer looking for this benchmarking to help inform a purchase decision?

When I get my X1000 in this next production batch I will share my honest opinions, good and bad, about my purchase. I'll relate how well the hardware and software perform together to do the things that I am interested in doing. Where that falls short and where that succeeds I'll tell. I'm interested in 3D rendering on this platform, so I'll surely let everyone know how I will be getting along -- how responsive the interface feels when modeling and setting up scenes, how quickly scenes are rendered as compared to other hardware I am using.

Hopefully I'll be speaking from firsthand experience in a few weeks.

Good to see your interest in this computer. I only wonder who will buy X1000 first. You or Piru?

@kas1e

I'm a beta tester & a team player, common logic tells me to feed the developers & help with 4.2, not feed the users.

You & others are free to buy one & go nuts with benchmarks all you like, my goals are different.

Sorry, I am well behind the Amiga times, but unless it has a version of Chrome to run, a Photoshop and an Office suite equivalent, why the hell would anyone spend that amount of money on it?

Good to know that benchmarks would feed the trolls, but who in their right mind would expect otherwise?

I think AbiWord/Gnumeric are useable on the X1000.

Why not? I could spend my money much worser (eg. burn it in fireplace).

@TrebleSix

I already have lots of hardware to run Chrome, Photoshop and office suites on. I'm buying an X1000 to run my Amiga stuff with AOS4 (my favorite of the NG "flavors") on the best possible hardware to do that. I surely wish I could do it at half the cost, but with some sacrifice I'm going to do it becuase I think I'll regret not doing so more than any buyer's remorse I'll have after the purchase.

Certainly understand others will not see the value in it, but that's where I am. Very excited about it, actually.

@Amigasociety, thanks for the videos!

@pavlor

I love my Amiga but just let it be. It's like the titanic, it was once a modern wonder, but just just needs to RIP

A crappy little laptop can do everything most people need these days.

@mbrantley

If you wanna use your Amiga stuff you would be better off with an a1200, and lotta cheaper, os4 stuff is mostly linux ports anyway, so by your standards you have Hardware for it already.

But why ? The OS is cool but it means nothing without software which can read and write industry standard formats.
