Hey there! To be clear, I had it set that way already and just confirmed it was so after reading the tip here. _________________

Ah, no, I haven't released it yet . I'm fairly confident in it's stability now, but there is one remaining reported bug that I need to look into before releasing it. Dpaint IV - version 4.6 to be exact, works great when you first run Blitzen. I can draw circles, do flood fills and arcs and all the things that didn't seem to work without Blitzen running. So it DOES help.

That's very encouraging. Can you animate? Play the animation? If so I need to track down version 4.6.
EDIT: Ooooh.... this is both frustrating and tantalizing at the same time, because it ALMOST works well enough to be useful for me. And I did find that my version is 4.6, same as yours, not 4.5 as I thought.
I can confirm that blitzen is a help. Without it, a number of things don't work, including painting with a larger than pixel-sized brush. With it, lots of things work and if I only spend a few minutes with the program testing things my first impression is that things are all peachy. I can make animations and play through them simply by holding down the 2 key to make the animationa advance. However playing the animation will cause the hard crash with the black screen.
And I found that I get unrecoverable DSI errors after doing most anything in the program after some minutes of use. For example, I can use the symmetry tool without problem for several operations. But inevitably, within a few minutes of using it, I get....
Guru Mediation: 80000003 Task 0x5616ec00 ("Dpaint") generated an error of type DSI (Data Storage Interrupt) on address 0x018101b8 Redzone was not damanged Stackpointer is inside bounds
This is running the program at 640x480, and I've tried it at 16 colors, 32 colors and 256 colors with no change in the result.
I feel like this is so close to working.... but that if I were to actually use DPaint to do any work I would have to save after every single operation and frequently reboot from the power switch to recover. No good for me.
I keep going back to Personal Paint. It's not quite as nice in some ways, but it's rock-solid on my system. Last edited by mbrantley on 04-May-2012 at 04:28 AM. Last edited by mbrantley on 04-May-2012 at 04:27 AM.

I am Running
o Wordworth 7.
Installed from CD onto my AOne (IIRC long time ago) then transfered in situ on hard disk to my SAM
Has the update from Aminet installed on top.
Requires PICASSO=TRUE in the main iocn tooltypes.
Another subtlety is that when using EPS images created from jpegs etc via ImageFX sometimes WW7 will lockup when creating the screen preview, after alot of testing to work out when this did and idn't hapen I found that it only happened from the recently opened list and never if loaded via the file requester.
Cutting and pasting of abject is patchy / buggy but it was under 68k too IIRC
o TurbCalc 3.5
Works well. DSI if a command searches the sheet for text. The DSI is ignorable but slows sheets athat need it down, So I disable autocalculate, and manually recalaculate when I've made the modifications I need.
o ImageFX 4.5
Works very well if a bit buggey here and there, worst bug is with the text tool, which can be worked arriund by deleteing the ENV varaiables it creates in ENV:ImageFX4
o ARexx
System component works very well with out any issues.
o PPaint 7.1
Works well.
o MakeCD
Works well requires updated wizard.library to prevent GUI lockups.
o TurboPrint
Works well in combination with my hp815 printer. Since 4.1update 2 it emits a warning about hanging forbid after using via ghostscript. I think that's about it.

These kinds of tips that you have shared in writing are exactly what I am trying to capture and write down in one place, so other users don't have to search all through forum postings trying to find out this kind of information. Thanks so much for your info. I will definitely use it when I get to those programs documentation/guides.
Anyone else with helpful tips like those above, that help get some of these and other programs working correctly on OS4.x without using E-UAE, please share here. _________________ What are you doing to make the Amiga community a better place? |

Here's something possibly worth jotting down in your log... With ADPro and with VistaPro both, if I launch either application and then immediately quit I get a visit from the Grim Reaper. However, if I run either program and then work with them (load a picture or a dem, or actually do anything really), I can exit gracefully. Not sure why but it is repeatable on my Sam440 machines.
Somebody mentioned, perhaps in another thread, recently of a way to fix up ImageFX so that the text tool is far more stable. I'll see if I can find that later. I must have already done the fix because I have no difficulty with doing text operations in ImageFX. number6 really helped me via IRC get both ImageFX and ADPro running well last year.
Meanwhile, the LightWave Modeler crashes with the AREXX scripts have returned again on my machines. With at least one of my Sams, I can absolutely assert that I made no change whatsoever to anything on the system to cause it to start working right or to break again. This is sooooooo weird. But it has now stopped working again on both computers after working correctly for only a day or two. More than anything, I want to figure out just what the deal is with this.

| Aha... may be on to something here in regards to the crashes I've been getting when executing an AREXX script from within LightWave Modeler. Remember, they happen on both my Sam440 machines, and then they don't happen for periods of time -- on both.
Well, it occurred to me tonight that on occasion I have changed displays. In the current case I have two Dell LCD monitors, each with a native resolution of 1280x1024. However, one monitor is a little bigger. And I had swapped them this past week when rearranging my home computer lab. This "scrambled" some of my screenmode IDs somehow. So I switched 'em back and no crashes.
But here's the weird thing... I swapped them again thinking I would recreate the crashing and... still no crashing. I can run Modeler and use the scripts (such as centering, text lines, etc.) just fine. I dunno... may all be coincidence, but I'm not changing these monitors around anytime soon and will see what happens.

This rumors always pop up because a-eon used words like "Custom chips" for it (what we all connect with classic amiga chipsets). It is NOT a programmable FPGA, as far as I know it costs only 20$ whereas real FPGAs are very expensive. As far as I know you can develope small programs that are executed in it independent of the processor and can do small tasks like manipulating signals. Perhaps some of the hardware-experts can explain it better. It is a small addon but certainly not able to emulate anything (expecially not AGA, ECS or similar). |

Well, my problem with the LightWave arexx macros sometimes working and sometimes crashing the system reappeared for a time and then disappeared, so I guess it had nothing to do with the monitor swapping. That was a long shot, I suppose. I have no idea what the problem is.
The problem appears and disappears on both my Sam440 machines simultaneously. Could it be network related? I don't know.
Meanwhile, I am happy to report that LightWave is working very well on my new X1000. It renders just fine for me (two X1000 owners reported problems with this, but no problems here), and in a few days of use the crashes when calling on the arexx scripts have not occurred on my X1000. Hopefully, they never will -- but I can't be too sure of that just yet since I don't know what has caused them on my Sam440 machines.
I am planning to make a video soon showing LightWave working on my X1000 and how I have it set up. Stay tuned. _________________

Maybe not, but I think the XENA might work as Paula chip, and that might be nice to have. After all there are many things that run on AmigaOS4.1 but whit out sound.

Its the closes thing to a FPGA, whit out being a FPGA, Xcore XENA is a processor, designed to simulate hardware, it can be used for many things.

iirc, you had an issue playing back wireframe preview animation in Lightwave?
I just tried it and it works just fine. Correct me if I'm wrong about your issue please.

So in Layout on the bottom left of the screen you can make a preview and then after it has rendered the wireframe preview anim you can play it and see something other than an empty window? Under AOS4 on your Micro without UAE being involved?
If the answer is yes then I am excited.
I have not been able to do this under AOS4 or MorphOS.

Going strictly from memories from long ago, I
(1)loaded an object
(2)in motion graph I made keyframes at 1 and 30
(3)simply made changes to x,y,z for frame 30, so I could detect motion
(4)selected "use motion" as per usual
(5)clicked preview..and have boingball moving wireframe on x,y,z axis
Easy peasy. Heh.
Yes. Native on the Micro, as opposed to E-UAE. No custom screen need be created for the preview, since it is part of the layout screen. Now, as to version of OS, version of LW, etc. that might play a part, we'll need to have a little discussion.
Hmm...just noticed this on Morphzone from you:
Quote:
| As Piru mentions, the only way to get around the make-preview bug is to drop the interface down to four colors. The resulting preview is still empty for want of the Amiga custom chips, but the rendering of the preview is so fast that it in itself functions as a real-time preview. You just don't get to loop it. |
Funny because it did this test with 8 colors and it loops. I gather you were referring to performance on MorphOS?

It cant. Do you know why? Because there is no output connector. It can make a sound but you cant hear it.
There is working SVGA design where XCore outputs 800x600 at 60 Hz but you are going to need additional hardware to get display signal out.

hehe... number6 may have just delayed my video. I want to get this preview thing figured out before I make it. Because if it works then I will say that LightWave works 100 percent or close to it -- which would be a big thing to say.
number6, what I meant on the old MOS forum post is that the process of "making" the preview is so fast on my Mac mini that in effect I get one full speed play of the preview to judge how well the animation will work. But then I have an empty window just like on AOS4.
At the time I only had Sam440 for AOS4 so LW was much slower. But now with my new X1000 the speed is in same ballpark as on my MOS machine. Could be faster, could be slower, could be the same -- I haven't measured as yet.
Now my LW installations have been copied from machine to machine to machine since Commodore was a going concern, so if I have a problem I could be copying the problem to all these machines and operating systems. _________________
