@amigadave

So when can we order the second batch? Are we not in the middle of Q2 now?

Have as much fun with it as I have fun with my recently received new (sic!) Powerbook 1.67. New toys in house are always fun!

You beat me to it. I am going to do the exact same thing to my White Boing Ball case. Your video did not show a closeup of the case where you put the Red color in the engraved areas and also did not show how you fixed the A1000/X1000 25th Anniversary pin to the case.

Tell us your secrets of how you did this case mod. I was thinking of masking the parts off that I don't want any Red color to get on and then using finger nail polish with a very high gloss and applying it very thick while the case is resting on it's back plane, so the polish could just flow into a level pool of thick nail polish and leave it for a day or more, so I would be sure that it has cured completely and will not run and cause a sagging drip looking defect in the surface of the nail polish when I stand it up on the case feet again.

@amigadave

LOL, the secret is using ALOT of green painters tape !

I used Krylon paint made for plastic and a combination of a very fine brush which I used to carefully cut all the raised edges of the recessed squares and spraypaint for the interior square sections. Three coats later and alot of espresso and the job was done to my satisfaction.

For the pin I ground off the pin portion smooth and used double tape to stick it to the case. You can use glue but that would be permanent and I wanted to be able to remove it if I wanted to later on.

most important part is not rushing on the taping and doing multiple coats....oh & of ocurse having fun while doing it...happy modding & here's a pic to inspire you

If I were you I would NOT use nail polish. Considering how nice the x1000 cases are i really wouldnt do a paint mod unless its a pro job.. but thats just me.

My X1000 arrived last night.

I have a question about posting to the X1000 forum over at Hyperion.biz

I registered with Hyperion's forum and got back the "You are approved... go to it" message.
I logged in with no problem, but there is nothing to be found about how to reply to a topic. I am using Timberwolf (is that my problem?).

Any advice?

TW works ok. Two ways to reply, look for the "quote" button at the top right of each post. This will quote the post for you for reply. Second way is at the end of all the posts, look for the "PostReply" box, this will give you an empty reply box.

Is it available to run in other 4.1 machines? SAM? AmigaOne?

From where can we get it for test?

Mine was the white case. Really really nice looking case. The only thing I might have changed about it would to have it resemble klx300r 's. I like the not-too-gaudy recessed boing ball too, but I might still go for the eye-popping red. I'll post a minireview once I get a chance to use it some more.

@AmigaDave: Pontiac? Cool. Yeah, come back for a visit. Michigan would be glad to have ya! :)

@Deniil715: 4-2-2012 I got an email saying they were deducting the money from my account. Received an email on 4-25-2012 saying it shipped and I received it on 4-27-2012. Which seems like darn efficient shipping from England to Michigan, but I'm not complaining..

I ordered the system when the First Contact systems were first offered and the manual that came with it said "First Contact". Not certain if this is from the second production run or not, but that was the impression I had.

I've had my X1000 for a few weeks now and I'm very pleased with it.
Considering everything, well worth the cost. I would put the ratio
around 1:3 at this time and can easily see that growing to as time
goes on and the fun part(3) overwhelms the cost.

The reference manual is very complete. A goldmine for those that can
not keep their fingers out of the machinery. Not just pinouts, but also
signal functions and names. It also contains a bit of history the long
time users should find interesting.
Thanks Trevor, this is something that will be cherished and used.

Debian installation went smooth as silk with the pdf supplied with the
kernels on Hyperions website. Really a nice job.

I changed the supplied soundcard to my favorite SBLive! without any
problems and MIDI tunes played with Timidity, either directly or
through AWeb, sound great. I have not had time to connect other
MIDI equipment but CAMD does recognize the USB device.

All in all, a good experience and looking forward for things to come.

I tried debian Mint on my laptop (live DVD), & really want to install that on the x1000, the desktop looked so cool.

Hope I don't get in trouble for saying this but when I visited Amigakit on the 21st they had the last few first contact systems ready to be sent out. Yours was probably the white one that hadn't been packed yet, I hadn't seen a white one in the flesh before so had a closer look.

They also had a big stack of "boing ball" front panels ready for the next production run of boards to start coming in from Varisys.

Well, I might have to do something quick. Either my AmigaOne XE G4 bit the dust today or it's battery did. It showed all sorts of read-write errors today. Finally it froze and upon attempting re-boot it goes through the motion, but ends up showing the old style floppy disk enter animation. I'll get some new batteries tomorrow and hope for the best.

@Moxee

Read/write errors suggest that the hard disk is on the way out or maybe the file system has become corrupted. Are the errors restricted to one particular partition.

Try booting without startup sequence from the early boot menu and then from the shell type s/execute startup-sequence.

Well, true there do seem to be more than enough lumps in the mattress. So, taking out a few probably wouldn't bother the Doberman much in his quest to push me off of it during the night.

No they are not. They were in different partitions, but I am not sure if they were on the same hard drive or not. I just shut it off and will investigate tomorrow morning when I am rested.

No "quote" button, no "reply box". Guess I'll complain to the management there.

Thanks.
