The 2010 restoration is missing less than 7 minutes now and is much much more watchable than the previous 2008 which was said to be missing more than 40 minutes. If you haven't watched this version already I suggest you do, all The Thin Man scenes are now in there whereas in the 2008 version a lot was missing and you never really got to meet the character.
Yeah after watching the movie I looked on Wikipedia, like I do with a lot great movies and found the Radio Ga Ga mentioned - didn't occur to me until after the movie had ended. Yes, mentions Blade Runner in there - haven't seen that movie for yonks either.
Great movie. _________________ Official AmigaOS Website AmigaOS on Facebook Lake Marketing and Events |

I didn't know they had restored so much of it in the 2010 release, need to look online and see where I can buy it, cheers...
If you like Metropolis then I highly recommend Forbidden Planet (1956) a cult Sci Fi movie (my all time favourite) that again inspired most of the great Sci Fi directors and producers...
Forbidden Planet (1957)...
Or Dark Star (1974) an offbeat wacky Sci Fi film by John Carpenter on which Ridley Scott based Alien on and I'm pretty sure it's where the inspiration for the "Boing Ball" came from...

What communications infrastructure ?
I would not call 512 kbps an exceptable telecommunications infrastructure these days. But that is what BT limit my line to. The line rental is a complete ripoff for those getting inferior service, at no reduced cost compared to those who get full broadband speeds with their BT lines.
To rub salt in the wounds the ISP Plusnet even charges me MORE for a lousy BT line restricted service than those who get better service at their cut price rates.
Unfortunately I have to have a BT line to get broadband even at the patheticly slow rate, BT have the monopoly on the broadband network. If there was an alternative I would get rid of the BT line yesterday, I hardly use the phone so its just not worth it.
The UK broadband infrastructure sucks. |

BT don't "limit" your line at all. They wuld run it as fast as they could to get the most business out of you. If it's slow then there will be a reason, nmost usualy that your house is along way from the exchange.

Change ISP then! Don't blame BT for plusnet.

I changed from BT to Sky after 1 month of using BT's line service. BT told me that at max I could only get 1Mbps because of the old copper wire landlines in my area and I actually only got an average of around 800Kbps...
However when I switched to Sky for line rental I now get 2.6Mbps, cheaper than BT and strangely enough using the very same old copper landlines that BT claimed couldn't supply me with anything over 1Mbps because I am at the furthest point possible from the exchange...
If I were you I'd get rid of BT ASAP and switch to someone like Sky as they are cheaper and provide a better service and are easy to get discounts from if you tell them your leaving every couple of months...
At the time BT couldn't care less about me leaving them but at least once a fortnight I get some junk mail from them trying to get me back, not a snowball in hells chance of that ever happening though, as their customer services stink and has to be one of the poorest customer services I've ever found (only British Gas are worse than them but that's another story)... _________________

Yeah I watched the 2008 version first, found the 2010 version and watched it the following day and all the pieces just fell in place.
With a spectacular title such as Forbidden Planet it makes me think deeply whether I have seen it or not - I don't believe I have though. I saw the most recent version of The Thing and was greatly surprised how good it was with respect to the original. I wouldn't call it a remake, as if you watch it - it is not.
In regard to BT:
The only reason they are even around today is because we are FORCED to pay the landline fee. You want Broadband? You can't get it unless you sign up to a landline as well - most people use mobile phones these days living the home phone unused. Also, if you ask all your neighbours whether they use BT or not and they say no, BT will not come to your street and remove the Pole and over-cabling. I know this for a fact, because my parents car is parked underneath one and is subjected to the seagulls bowels.Last edited by djrikki on 14-May-2012 at 10:43 PM. Which original? The original original or the original remake?

No you are not you can go cable or not have any landline at all.

That's because the broadband come doen the landline.

Rubbish. Very large numbers of people use landlines because mobile signal is poor, or because it's cheaper. Or for many reasons.

Quite clearly they wouldn't do that. The next occupants of the road might want to use the lines! They would likely take away the connection to your house if asked (probably charge for though I'd guess) but they aren't going to start removeing poles etc. for the sake of seaguls poo!
I'm coming over as a BT fan but I don;t use them these days but I hate this unfounded propaganda. You can also pay the landline fee to your ineterbnet provider by the way. and they then may or may not discount it.

I've argued that one many times with Sky that even though they insist on calling all their internet packages "Broadband" that are not in fact broadband as they use the same old copper lines they lease from BT...
My package is called "broadband unlimited" and they pass it off as giving up to 20Mbps (i get an average of 2.6Mbps) and even in all the online tests I've yet to see anyone getting anymore than around 10Mbps using Sky's so called broadband...
Rip Off Britain is alive and well and making a tidy profit from the internet (and old phone lines)... _________________
