Yep, very popular. And they're still pretty good drives, even now.

Strange that movep instruction wasnt used more. It was neat way to write byte swapped 16-bit words. _________________ Free IRC client for Amiga: www.amirc.org |

Hmmm... must've been an English thing... still can't recall one single person having one and neither do any of my ex-Amigan mates I've asked this week... _________________

Well, that's not quite what movep does. It transfers successive bytes in a register to/from the successive high bytes* on successive 16-bit aligned addresses. For example,
move.l $AABBCCDD, d0 movep.l d0, (a0)
0(a0) -> 0xAA xx 2(a0) -> 0xBB xx 4(a0) -> 0xCC xx 6(a0) -> 0xDD xx
I'm not actually sure the low order bytes (xx) were set to zero or simply left unchanged when using this instruction on actual memory locations.
Anyway, it was intended to simplify the addition of 8-bit peripherals (hence the 'p' in movep) to the 16-bit data bus. You could have your 8-bit peripheral hooked into d15-d8 lines and transfer successive bytes from or to a register with this instruction.
*or the low bytes, if the starting effective address was odd.Last edited by Karlos on 15-Jun-2012 at 10:08 PM. Last edited by Karlos on 15-Jun-2012 at 10:07 PM.

Or must have been a Scottish thing not to have one. Seriously why is it imperative for the Scots to highlight differences between the two nations at every opportune moment.
I know the answer, its rhetorical.

I've no idea what "rhetorical" means, must be a an English word or sumfink...
It's imperative to highlight the differences at every opportunity possible for two reasons...
1) It's important to distinguish the cultural and language differences between our two nations mainly for ignorant Americans who think that the entire UK is one country that they tend to refer to as England...
2) It's traditional and the we are taught to do this even when still in the womb plus we just like taking the mickey (that bits genetic and therefore can't be helped)...
Oh and reason number 3 (yeah I know I said two but who's counting) it's the only other subject we have to talk about other than grumbling about the weather... _________________
