@TRIPOS

PCIE bus needs DMA. DMA support is currently only implemented for the Sam machines.
Note the speedup with DMA for the Sam460ex. When DMA suppor for the X1000 comes then we will see a big speed up .

Ah, of course! I kind of took DMA for granted!

Any ETA on that BTW?

So is this on par with what to expect from a four-lane PCI express bus with DMA?

@Spectre660

I think you find that it slows down a tiny bit if you resized the window.
When the window is not resized the graphics drawn direct on the window, if you re-size the graphic goes into temporary bitmap and its re-sized and then drawn into the window.

If you have sam440 your better off using p96_pip, I think.

1.1 did not draw into the window, when it re-sized the bitmap it also draw the graphic on top of window, whit some bad side effects.

@NutsAboutAmiga

I dont have a working Radeon 9xxx.
Am using a Radeon HD 6670 via a pic to pcie adapter.
Actual play back with audio still works very well but the benchmark test
indicates a slowdown.
Window resizing is smooth and I like the mouse wheel function

@Spectre660

Hi Spectre.
I found a used RadeonHD 6870 Saphire and works fine in my SAM440 Flex.
But only appears 256 Mb of Video Memory.
Is this normal ?
So it's a fault from the driver ?

Yes.

Picasso96 sees only 256 MB. Look at RadeonHD driver blog for better explanation.

With newer graphics cards only the first 256 MiB is directly accessible over the PCIe/PCI bus, as otherwise your VRAM would take up too much address space (for 32-bit processors). The rest of the VRAM is only directly accessible by the GPU itself. As a consequence, Picasso96 will only ever know about the first 256 MiB. Not to worry, 3D graphics drivers will be able to access the rest.

Why 207 MiB free? Well, to start with the graphics driver reserves some space for its own use (for shaders, command packets, etc.). The Workbench screen that you're looking at also takes up VRAM, as does all of the icons, theme bitmaps, or any other bitmap currently being used. High resolution graphics takes up a lot of space.

@Spectre660

The composite make a big difference in actual video playback.
Also comparing the Sam440ep-Flex + Radeon HD to the Sam60ex+ Radeon HD below.
Shows the Sam460ex as 2.55 times faster than the Sam 440ep on playback of the superman.flv
video.
Comparing composite benchmarks for these video cards in the above machines
the Radeon HD 4670 in the Sam460ex scores about 520.56 and the Radeon HD 6670
in the Sam440ep-flex scores 336.36.
So the Radeon HD 4670 performs about 1.55 time faster on average in composite functions when used on
a Sam460ex than the Radeon HD6670 in a Sam440ep-Flex,

Sam440ep-Flex Radeon HD 6670 ddr3

BENCHMARKs: VC: 62.957s VO: 41.766s A: 0.000s Sys: 2.512s = 107.234s
BENCHMARK%: VC: 58.7097% VO: 38.9482% A: 0.0000% Sys: 2.3422% = 100.0000%

Sam460ex Radeon 4670 ddr3

BENCHMARKs: VC: 31.460s VO: 10.188s A: 0.000s Sys: 0.406s = 42.055s
BENCHMARK%: VC: 74.8078% VO: 24.2257% A: 0.0000% Sys: 0.9665% = 100.0000%

Can you explain me how to perform these benchmarks?

I have a 460 and aRadeon 6670 but did not notice all these increments using liveforit.

@kyle

mplayer -nosound -benchmark -quiet Videofile

Livefor it Mplayer defaults to composite output
Mui-mplayer Beta9 defalts to cgx_wpa output

Actual playback with sound demonstrates results better though.
On a Sam460ex you want to try a video larger than 704x404 to
see when the audio and video are not in sync .

@SOFISTISOFTWARE

The 4670 DDR3 has a better Composite score than the 6670 DDR3.
The overall 2D Score for the 6670 is better though.
a 6670 DDR5 would perform a bit better on composite than the 4670 DDR3 though.
