@acmn

I not have any problem on sam460EX with update4 and not see any now.
Even if installer say "UAE is installed" I see it worth reinstalling it - I got new icon!
But where is "Professional photograph backgrounds provided by mediacube". I not see any change on background...?

@mrdarek

sys:Prefs/Presets/mediacube

You need to open WBPattern prefs & select one for your background.

@sundown

Thanks. Found it. Nice selection, maybe Hyperion should also add some "AmigaOS4" themed backgrounds.

@acmn

Could you raise an appropriate entry within the designated support forum inside the relevant board on http://support.amigaos.net/ ? Maybe you can also provide more information on your setup and problem. Did you install on Update4 or an earlier version?

@acmn

I got garbled (unreadable) text in Uboot during the first boot after install, but it was back to normal the following boot. Thats the only "issue" I can think of, and Im also on AmigaOne 500.

In AmigaInput, there is now an entry called Catweasel? Dunno what that is, but it seems to work (my USB joystick behaves the same if I select Catweasel as driver as with the USB). According to Google it is a floppy controller? :S

@Androxyn

A PCI card you can plug in to your Amiga, what your doing is probably ignored, as card is not plugged in.

The new backgrounds are not listed in Prefs/WBPattern. I can only choose between the 3 old ones. But I can see in Lister that the mediacube folder is there. What am I doing wrong? :S

Bad news: It freeze during game as usual (Sam Flex)

@Androxyn

Open WBPattern prefs, Workbench tab, click the requester gadget for Picture name. Click "Parent" until you see the mediacube directory, double click the directory & pick an image to use. You can test each one till you find one you like, then save.

@OldFart

If you want to have some more space available, you can check
SYS:Prefs/Preset (some pics/backgrounds/sounds)
SYS:Emulation (RunInUAE)

drawers and move them elsewhere in your hard drive. And save some space in SYS:[quote]

But careful: If you have already installed RunInUAE you need to uninstall it first, then move around what you want, and finally re-install it. It saves inside it the locations of some stuff, so I believe it will have problems if you move the Emulation drawer under its nose.

Of course, the same is true if you have your WBPattern prefs currently set to one of the pictures in SYS:Prefs/Presets, then WB won't find it on the next boot if you have moved it, so you will need to go back in and select the new path in WBPattern prefs.

Best regards,

Niels

Yep, you get the gist of my endeavour!
Indeed these drawers have not been moved over from or have only selectively/partly been moved over from the previous version of the OS.
Neither have I moved over SYS:System/Python, which I think is a 3rd party addon and hence should not be part of the main OS installation. Saved me about 23Mb.
I'm pondering the classification the contents of the SYS:Fonts-drawer as 3rd party so I can move them away from the OS installation. Saves another 13.2Mb per OS-version.
And, partly, the contents of SYS:Prefs/Env-Archive/Sys: all them default icons take up nearly 1.5Mb per OS-version.

In the plain OS-installation you will encounter these catagories of files & drawers:
1 Universal: these are part of the OS proper and should be left alone.
2 3rd party: move them off to a different place, BUT ONLY IF THIS MAKES SOME SENSE (like multiboot)
3 Language specific: Go through the SYS:Locale drawer and feast upon the deletetion of all those files and drawers related to countries and languages you have no truck with
4 Hardware specific: look at audio, look at internet/network, at the videochip in use, etc., etc.
5 Monitor specific: Somewhere in 'Presets' there are drawers containing pictures and the like for screenformats you will never be using: again have a feast!

There is one or two more catagories, which would survive heavy surgery quite well. I've made a BLOG about my endeavours. This one will be updated quite soon and regularly.

Only problems I have encountered so far are 'boing ball' blanker no longer displays and if I log into Amigans.net with muiowb it says I'm logged in but am not as wont allow me to input anything! But works fine with Timberwolf!

Obviously due to the concept of assigns you can put these thngs where you like but python is an official part of the OS since quite a while now .

Yes, I do quite well realize that the difference between an 'OS proper' component and what I deem '3rd party' is based on a rather trivial set of properties. But, hey, I like to tinker. So I imaginarilly draw a trivial line somewhere and act upon it. The nicest thing is that the system is STILL booting and running...

@Reth

I have usual set up in my AO500, onboard sound and onboard gfx, and
my Uboot looks like this:

baudrate=115200
loads_echo=1
hostname=Sam460ex
stdout=vga
stdin=usbkbd
ide_doreset=on
ide_reset_timeout=15
ide_cd_timeout=20
pcie_mode=RP:RP
pciconfighost=1
bootcmd=menu; run menuboot_cmd
menucmd=menu
boot_method=boota
usb_enable_4x0=1
usb_retry=1
usb_ohci_power_down_before_reset=1
ethact=ppc_4xx_eth0
ethaddr=00:50:c2:80:d5:3c
ipaddr=192.168.2.50
serverip=192.168.2.222
sii3512ide_xfer=GF
sii3512ide_conf=12
serdes=sata2
video_activate=sm502
hush=0
scan_usb_storage=1
menuboot_cmd=boota
ver=U-Boot 2010.06.05a (Jan 30 2012 - 16:06:56)
boot1=ssii
boot2=ssii
boot3=ssii
boota_timeout=1
menuboot_delay=3
os4_commandline=debuglevel=0

Update 4 was ok, but with this update my Amy freezes
leaving text "Loading done, now launching kickstart"
on the screen...MK

@acmn

Well, the update does NOT alter anything in UBoot's domain. If your setup functioned well with update 4, then that means something has gone a bit different from planned. If possible revert back to update 4 and investigate.
