@AmigaBlitter

I voted No because what do you want them to offer?

I know, we can't offer too much to them. Maybe with the next 4.2 with a commercial plan?

If Hyperion would have a credible business plan they would propably at least listen. Otherwise they will not even discuss with you. IBM is big business (big worldwide companies). There any of your camps (or even all unified) is still a little fish for them.

@AmigaBlitter

16 core and 3 Ghz sounds competitive but without big numbers you will not get a competitive price. It is propably for big servers where a couple of thousands dollar more or less is not that important...

Freescale now offers T4240 with 12 cores (e6500 core with AltiVec, 64 bit, 2 threads per core = 24 threads) 1.8 GHz (nearly 3 DMIPS/MHz). Best PowerPC CPU available today, I think.

@OlafS25

I can not answer the poll until I know a few things. What do you mean by IBM? an x86 Processor? IBM has developed more than one type of processor architecture. If they are only developing x86 now, and have no intention of developing any other processor architecture.

then no way.

If IBM is developing PPC, like in your thread "IBM PowerPC 16 cores chip for the next Xbox" and your wish for 16 core Amiga,

then YES!

but please clarify before I answer poll.

and somebody please explain what this "Pancakes" option for polls is. I do not understand this. Is this some type of joke answer that is included in most polls on amigaworld.net?

@AmigaBlitter

What do you want the new CPU for? For more power? What software you have currently under your AmigaOS 4.1 system that it needs more CPU power than the current one?

Hi,

no one talked about x86 processors.

The pancakes option is a must for every poll in AW. It's a joke and an option for who doesn't want to vote the poll.,

Well, on the Hardware side both A-eon/Acube could be interested.

this thread is in "AmigaOS hardware". X86 would not make much sense there

@Phantom

Just because these days there was a lot of talk about a possible next CPU for Amiga, due to the high PASemi price. I read moreover this spreading of sludge about the failing of PPC architecture for amiga proposed by Varisys and other vendor: http://www.appuntidigitali.it/17523/cpu-dellx1000-a-1000-amiga-ng-a-un-binario-morto/

@AmigaBlitter

The problem I see with dealing with big companies is that those do not take small customers seriously. They use PPC for their servers and such are propably the prices (and IBM is not known producing "cheap" hardware). The point that is most requested here is payable (AOS) hardware and I doubt that IBM is the solution there...

@AmigaBlitter

I understand your concern, but I don't believe that X1000's price will be reduced dramatically with a new and cheaper CPU.

On the other hand, to get a good and affordable price you have to buy a serious amount of those CPUs, and not 500 or 1000 of them.

@AmigaBlitter

Asking does not cost money and I would ask everyone I can to get the best offer (if I would be aeon). But my personal experience with big companies in general is not good but asking does not harm.

I selected all options except "No" and "We will be ignored".

What would AmigaOS do if installed onto a 16 Core processor? Is that too fast for AmigaOS or MorphOS?
