@CritAnime

Ah,maybe i should give EVE another go :) I also has a Dust 514 pass,but did'nt play it for a few months,and back then it was still in beta,but it did look very interresting though,and does add quite a bit to the EVE universe. Yes,i agree with you about X,it is like Elite,minus the planetary stuff. The idea i really like about Elite Dangerous,is the evolving galaxy,and if they manage to get this right,this might become a very good game,only time will tell :)

@Plaz

Yes,the campaign was really bad at first,to put it kindly,and they really messed things up. It did improve dramatically the last month though,but was far from perfect mainly because of all those small mistakes they did here and there early on in the campaign(the pledge tiers for example) And to top it all,they layed-off staff at a very bad moment. The list of all the mistakes they did is quite long.

Yes,i did have a bad day,and i admit i was way over the line. But crowdfunding is always a risk,no matter what project a person chose to back. Me personally think it is a bit safer to back someone that is known in the industri though,since they atleast have some reputation to protect. But it's easy to digg up negative things about a person,because everyone got "swine in the forrest" as they say here in Norway. David Braben is far from a saint,but i doubt any of us are.

The good thing about crowdfunding,is that everyone can have a chance to get their stuff funded,and do their thing. Avoiding publishers all together,and hopefully give what people want(and that's not sure at all)

I did back Star Citizen,Elite Dangerous and Limit Theory.

A cracking result and it seems that 25K people are prepared to give DB and Frontier Developments the benefit of the doubt.

This new Elite hasn't got much competition now. Considering how much they messed up X Rebirth.

ehm... well you guys should experience it with the Octolus Rift!

Friend of mine bought an Octo dev kit and said it is breath taking to be completely immersed in it, from a pilots perspective. As you look around the cockpit you can even see the frost glinting off corners of the glass etc...

Console owners are out of luck I think, as far as I know Elite Dangerous is not coming to consoles (I stand to be corrected though!). I don't think Amiga owners could ever expect it either :(

Anyone willing to chip in to do a "conversion"...

Q!

@QuBe

ye, I have a buddy with the oculus too that are enjoying it immensly.

Atm Im waiting for the TrackIR to arrive. Ordered it a few days ago.

As for VR/AR, I might go for CastAR instead of Oculus, but Ill obviously hold off that decision until commercial versions are out.

I see... I think VR headsets will be the new rage, but I don't mind waiting for a year or so to see what is released by competing technology firms. I think the head sets will get better and liter. This is an important factor for long term usage...

I am also worried about "BulgeYe"... a process whereby living in your headset slowly pushes against your face whilst pushing out your eyeballs from their sockets...

It is a wait and see as new tech companies jostle for our attention tempting us to part with our precious euros, pounds, dollars and bitcoin (maybe Amigacoins).

Q!

Recording of a official twitch Elite Dangerous session;

http://www.twitch.tv/elitedangerous/b/520668350

Might wanna skip forward 1.5 minute into the recording as its just the static Elite logo with some background noise.

I'll wait for the polished and complete Mac version thanks. All the talk of Betas and Alphas is too much like using Amiga Browsers (Timberwolf here's looking at you)!

I'm a bit annoyed it looks like it'll need a Quad Core machine though

@BigD

Not sure about the performance requirement. Listening to the streamers, some of them have oldish and normal level hardware, with good performance. So supposedly the game is reasonably optimized.

I got semi old I7 920 tho with 12 gig of ram, and its supersmooth.
Radeon 7970 graphics card which is decent tho.

Overall my hardware is getting quite aged, and still Elite Dangerous is flawless.

@Thread

So will this game work on dual core Core2Duo CPUs?

@Thread,

I also supported the Kickstarter bounty for this "Elite Dangerous" MMO game to be made, but did not have any false hopes that it could be ported to any NG Amiga systems.

The progress on completing the game and releasing it for Beta Testing has taken longer than I thought. I think that most of the supporters thought that it was going to proceed faster, but maybe I am wrong. I can't remember the projected completion date, so maybe they are on schedule instead of falling behind, like I am assuming. I should look it up, before saying on these forums that they are behind schedule.

The screen shots and videos they have released so far are great and I am looking forward to seeing how well it will run on the i5 PC w/Radeon 7 series video card I built last year.

What about it? It's an 8 year old architecture, and while I'm perfectly happy with the two Core2Duo machines I have running here, I understand that they're old (I got both CPUs for free, that should give you an idea...), and that they've been greatly surpassed by newer chips. That's how the gaming world works - people are developing such enormous games that they need quad-core CPUs and multiple GB of RAM, not to mention heaps of graphics horsepower and RAM. Braben himself said that he waited this long because he was waiting for PCs to become powerful enough to realise his vision of what the game should be like, and he abandoned his first attempt (which would have run quite well on our Core2Duo machines) as it simply wasn't there yet.

I'm pretty sure I'll have to build a whole new machine to get a good experience from Elite: Dangerous, but that's the price of entry. More games will come along with similar requirements eventually. Surely you could at least get yourself a new CPU, assuming the rest of your system is up to the challenge. Save up, you can get a 2.5GHz Core2Quad CPU on eBay right now for £48 which (socket dependent) is a drop-in replacement for the Core2Duo and easily beats the minimum requirements for Elite: Dangerous... And there are plenty more to choose from too.
